Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula: ##STR36## wherein R is H or CH.sub.3 ;
- G is O or NR.sub.1 ;
- R.sub.1 is H, C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 alkyl, CF.sub.2 H, C.sub.2 to C.sub.3 alkyl substituted with 1 to 3 atoms of F, CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OCH.sub.3, CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OH, CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OSi(CH.sub.3).sub.3, OH, OSi(CH.sub.3).sub.3, C.sub.1 to C.sub.2 alkoxy, SO.sub.2 CH.sub.3, phenyl or benzyl; ##STR37## R.sub.2 is C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkoxy, OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OCH.sub.3, F, Cl, Br, C.sub.1 to C.sub.2 haloalkoxy, C.sub.1 to C.sub.2 haloalkylthio, C.sub.1 to C.sub.2 haloalkylsulfonyl, C.sub.2 to C.sub.3 alkylcarbonyl, NO.sub.2, CO.sub.2 R.sub.17, SO.sub.2 NR.sub.18 R.sub.19, SO.sub.2 N(OCH.sub.3)CH.sub.3, OSO.sub.2 R.sub.20, S(O).sub.p R.sub.21, C.sub.3 to C.sub.4 alkenyloxy, C.sub.3 to C.sub.4 alkynyloxy, C.sub.1 to C.sub.2 alkyl substituted with OCH.sub.3, OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.3, 1 to 3 atoms of F or Cl, or with 1 Br, C.sub.2 to C.sub.3 alkenyl optionally substituted with 1 to 3F or Cl, C.sub.6 H.sub.5, ##STR38## R.sub.3 is H, F, Cl, Br, CF.sub.3, CH.sub.3, CH.sub.2 CH.sub.3, OCH.sub.3, OCF.sub.2 H, OC.sub.2 H.sub.5, C.sub.1 to C.sub.2 alkylthio, CH.sub.2 SCH.sub.3, CH.sub.2 OCH.sub.3 or C.sub.1 to C.sub.2 alkoxy substituted with 1 to 3F;
- R.sub.4 is H, CH.sub.3, OCH.sub.3, F, Cl, Br, SO.sub.2 N(CH.sub.3).sub.2, OSO.sub.2 CH.sub.3 or SO.sub.2 CH.sub.3 ;
- R.sub.5 is CH.sub.3, CH.sub.2 CH.sub.3, OCH.sub.3, OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.3, F, Cl, Br, SO.sub.2 NR.sub.18 R.sub.19, SO.sub.2 N(OCH.sub.3)CH.sub.3 or SO.sub.2 R.sub.21 ;

- R.sub.25 is H or C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 alkyl;
- R.sub.26 is H or Cl;
- R.sub.27 is H or Cl;
- R.sub.28 is H or CH.sub.3 ;
- Z is N;
- X.sub.3 is CH.sub.3 or OCH.sub.3 ;
- and their agriculturally suitable salts; provided that
- (a) when m is 1, then R.sub.9 is H;
- (b) the total number of carbon atoms of R.sub.18 and R.sub.19 does not exceed four;
- (c) when L is L-15, then R.sub.13 and R.sub.14 are not simultaneously H;
- (d) when L is L-16, then R.sub.16 is adjacent to the substituent ##STR41## and (e) when the total number of carbon atoms of X and Y is greater than four, then R.sub.1 is H or CH.sub.3 and the total number of carbons of the substituents on L does not exceed four.
- 2. A compound according to claim 1 wherein G is O and R is H.
- 3. A compound according to claim 2 wherein Y is CH.sub.3, OCH.sub.3, CH.sub.2 OCH.sub.3, C.sub.2 H.sub.5, NHCH.sub.3, cyclopropyl or CH(OCH.sub.3).sub.2, and R.sub.1 is H, C.sub.1 to C.sub.2 alkyl, CH.sub.2 CF.sub.3 or CF.sub.2 H.
- 4. A compound according to claim 3 wherein
- R.sub.2 is C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 alkoxy, Cl, Br, NO.sub.2, CF.sub.3, CO.sub.2 R.sub.17, SO.sub.2 N(CH.sub.3).sub.2, OSO.sub.2 R.sub.20, SO.sub.2 R.sub.21, OCHF.sub.2, ##STR42## R.sub.3 is H, Cl, CH.sub.3 or OCH.sub.3 ; R.sub.4 is CH.sub.3, OCH.sub.3, Cl, Br, OSO.sub.2 CH.sub.3 or SO.sub.2 CH.sub.3 ;
- R.sub.5 is Cl, SO.sub.2 N(CH.sub.3).sub.2 or SO.sub.2 CH.sub.3 ;

- 6. A compound according to claim 4 wherein L is L-5 and R.sub.6 is Cl or SO.sub.2 R.sub.21.
- 7. A compound according to claim 4 wherein L is L-7.

- 15. A composition for the control of undesirable vegetation consisting essentially of a compound of claim 1 and at least one of (a) a surface active agent, and (b) a solid or liquid diluent.
- 16. A composition for the control of undesirable vegetation consisting essentially of a compound of claim 2 and at least one of (a) a surface active agent, and (b) a solid or liquid diluent.
- 17. A composition for the control of undesirable vegetation consisting essentially of a compound of claim 3 and at least one of (a) a surface active agent, and (b) a solid or liquid diluent.
- 18. A composition for the control of undesirable vegetation consisting essentially of a compound of claim 4 and at least one of (a) a surface active agent, and (b) a solid or liquid diluent.
- 19. A composition for the control of undesirable vegetation consisting essentially of a compound of claim 5 and at least one of (a) a surface active agent, and (b) a solid or liquid diluent.

- 29. A method for the control of undesirable vegetation comprising applying to the locus of such vegetation an herbicidally effective amount of a compound of claim 1.

- 31. A method for the control of undesirable vegetation comprising applying to the locus of such vegetation an herbicidally effective amount of a compound of claim 3.
