Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula: ##STR437## wherein A is a pyrazole ring substituted with 1 to 3 substituents selected from R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 ;
- R.sup.1 is H; C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl optionally substituted with C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy or 1 to 5 halogens; C.sub. -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl; C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkenyl optionally substituted with 1 to 3 halogens; C.sub. -C.sub.6 alkynyl; or C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy;
- R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl optionally substituted with C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy or 1 to 5 halogens; C.sub. -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl; C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkenyl optionally substituted with 1 to 3 halogens; or C.sub. -C.sub.6 alkynyl;
- R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are independently H; halogen; C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl optionally substituted with one or more halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy, CN, CO.sub.2 R.sup.7, S(O).sub.m R.sup.8, C(O)NR.sup.9 R.sup.10 or SO.sub.2 NR.sup.13 R.sup.14 ; C.sub. -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl; C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkenyl; C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 haloalkenyl; C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkynyl; C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy; CN; CO.sub.2 R.sup.11 ; S(O).sub.p R.sup.12 ; C(O)NR.sup.15 R.sup.16 ; SO.sub.2 NR.sup.17 R.sup.18 ; C(O)R.sup.19, C(OR.sup.20) (OR.sup.21) R.sup.22 ; CR.sup.23 .dbd.NOR.sup.24 ; NO.sub.2 ; NR.sup.25 R.sup.26 ; or phenyl or benzyl, each ring optionally substituted with 1 to 3 substituents selected from halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 haloalkyl and C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy;
- R.sup.6 is H; C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl optionally substituted with one or more halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy, CN, CO.sub.2 R.sup.7, S(O).sub.m R.sup.8, C(O)NR.sup.9 R.sup.10 or SO.sub.2 NR.sup.13 R.sup.14 ; C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkenyl; C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 haloalkenyl; C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkynyl; CN; CO.sub.2 R.sup.11 ; SO.sub.2 R.sup.12 ; C(O)NR.sup.15 R.sup.16 ; SO.sub.2 NR.sup.17 R.sup.18 ; or phenyl or benzyl, each ring optionally substituted with 1 to 3 substituents selected from halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 haloalkyl and C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy;
- R.sup.7 and R.sup.11 are independently H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl or allyl;
- R.sup.8 and R.sup.12 are independently C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl;
- R.sup.9, R.sup.10, R.sup.13, R.sup.14, R.sup.15, R.sup.16, R.sup.17 and R.sup.18 are independently H or C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl;
- R.sup.19, R.sup.22 and R.sup.23 are independently H or C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl;
- R.sup.20 and R.sup.21 are independently C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl;
- R.sup.24 is H or C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl;
- R.sup.25 and R.sup.26 are independently H or C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl; and
- m, n and p are independently 0, 1 or 2;
- provided that
- a) R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are independently bonded to carbon, and R.sup.6 is bonded to nitrogen; and
- b) when S(O).sub.n is bonded to nitrogen then n is 2.
- 2. A compound of claim 1 whereto n is 1 or 2.
- 3. A compound of claim 2 where A is ##STR438## wherein X is NR.sup.6.
- 4. A compound of claim 3 where n is 2 and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl or C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkenyl.
- 5. A compound of claim 4 where
- R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are independently H; F; Cl; Br; C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl optionally substituted with one or more F, Cl, Br or C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy; cyclopropyl; C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkenyl; C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 haloalkenyl; C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkynyl; C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy; CN; CO.sub.2 (C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl), S(O).sub.p (C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl); C(O)NR.sup.15 R.sup.16 ; SO.sub.2 NR.sup.17 R.sup.18 ; C(O) R.sup.19, C (OR.sup.20) (OR.sup.21) R.sup.22 ; CR.sup.23 .dbd.NOR.sup.24 ; NO.sub.2 ; NR.sup.25 R.sup.26 ; or phenyl optionally substituted with 1 to 3 substituents selected from halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 haloalkyl and C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy; R.sup.6 is H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl optionally substituted with one or more F, Cl, Br, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, CN, CO.sub.2 (C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl), S(O).sub.m (C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl), C(O)NR.sup.9 R.sup.10 or SO.sub.2 NR.sup.13 R.sup.14 ; C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkenyl; C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 haloalkenyl; C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkynyl; CO.sub.2 R.sup.11 ; SO.sub.2 (C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl); C(O)NR.sup.15 R.sup.16 ; SO.sub.2 NR.sup.17 R.sup.18 ; or phenyl or benzyl, each ring optionally substituted with 1 to 3 substituents selected from halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 haloalkyl and C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy;
- R.sup.9, R.sup.10, R.sup.13 and R.sup.14 are independently C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl;
- R.sup.11 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl or allyl;
- R.sup.15, R.sup.16, R.sup.17, R.sup.18, R.sup.25 and R.sup.26 are independently C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl; and
- R.sup.19, R.sup.22 and R.sup.23 are independently H or C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl.
- 6. A compound of claim 5 where
- R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 axe independently ethyl or allyl; and
- R.sup.5 is H, Cl, CH.sub.3, C.sub.2 H.sub.5 or CF.sub.3.
- 7. A composition suitable for controlling the growth of undesired vegetation which comprises an effective mount of a compound of claim 2 and at least one of the following: surfactant, solid or liquid inert diluent.
- 8. A method for controlling the growth of undesired vegetation which comprises applying to the locus to be protected an effective amount of a compound of claim 2.
