Claims
- 1. An absorbent structure comprising wet-resilient fibers and a wet:dry geometric mean tensile ratio of about 0.1 or greater, a density greater than 0.3 grams per cubic centimeter and an absorbent capacity of about 4 grams of water per gram of fiber or greater.
- 2. The structure of claim 1 wherein the wet-resilient fibers are high-yield pulp fibers.
- 3. The structure of claim 2 wherein the high-yield pulp fibers are bleached chemithermomechanical pulp fibers.
- 4. The structure of claim 1 wherein the density decreases about 20 percent or greater when saturated with water.
- 5. The structure of claim 1 wherein the density decreases about 40 percent or greater when saturated with water.
- 6. The structure of claim 1 wherein the density decreases about 60 percent or greater when saturated with water.
- 7. The structure of claim 1 wherein the density decreases about 80 percent or greater when saturated with water.
- 8. The structure of claim 1 wherein the Surface Depth increases about 300 percent or greater when saturated with water.
- 9. The structure of claim 1 wherein the Surface Depth increases from about 300 to about 600 percent when saturated with water.
- 10. The structure of claim 1 wherein the Caliper increases about 200 percent or greater when saturated with water.
- 11. The structure of claim 1 wherein the Caliper increases about 400 percent or greater when saturated with water.
- 12. The structure of claim 1 wherein the Caliper increases about 600 percent or greater when saturated with water.
- 13. A compressed uncreped through-air-dried web of papermaking fibers comprising wet-resilient fibers and a wet strength agent, said web having a density of about 0.3 grams per cubic centimeter or greater and an absorbent capacity of about 4 grams of water per gram of fiber.
- 14. The web of claim 13 wherein the wet resilient fibers are bleached chemithermomechanical pulp fibers.
- 15. The web of claim 13 wherein the density decreases about 20 percent or greater when saturated with water.
- 16. The web of claim 13 wherein the density decreases about 40 percent or greater when saturated with water.
- 17. The web of claim 13 wherein the density decreases about 60 percent or greater when saturated with water.
- 18. The web of claim 13 wherein the density decreases about 80 percent or greater when saturated with water.
- 19. The web of claim 13 wherein the Surface Depth increases about 300 percent or greater when saturated with water.
- 20. The web of claim 13 wherein the Surface Depth increases from about 300 to about 600 percent when saturated with water.
- 21. The web of claim 13 wherein the Caliper increases about 200 percent or greater when saturated with water.
- 22. The web of claim 13 wherein the Caliper increases about 400 percent or greater when saturated with water.
- 23. The web of claim 13 wherein the Caliper increases about 600 percent or greater when saturated with water.
