Claims
- 1. A substantially transparent antenna, comprising:
a substantially transparent substrate having first and second sides; a first conductive mesh carried on said first side and configured to define at least one patch; and a second conductive mesh carried on said second side and configured to define a ground plane.
- 2. The antenna of claim 1, wherein said substrate comprises a substantially transparent dielectric material selected from at least one of glass, polystyrene, polycarbonate, air, polyester and acrylic.
- 3. The antenna of claim 1, wherein said substrate comprises acrylic.
- 4. The antenna of claim 1, wherein each of said first and second conductive meshes has a total area, is formed of conductive members which define open spaces between said conductive members that sum to a open-spaces area, and has a transparency of at least 70% wherein transparency is a ratio of open-spaces area to total area.
- 5. The antenna of claim 1, wherein said conductive members are arranged in a substantially-orthogonal relationship.
- 6. The antenna of claim 1, wherein said conductive mesh comprises a metal.
- 7. The antenna of claim 1, wherein said conductive mesh comprises a metal selected from at least one of aluminum, copper, gold, silver, tin and nickel.
- 8. The antenna of claim 1, further including first and second plastic films that each carry a respective one of said first and second conductive meshes.
- 9. The antenna of claim 8, wherein said first and second plastic films comprise polyester.
- 10. The antenna of claim 1, wherein said first conductive mesh defines a plurality of patches and further including feed lines that serially connect said patches.
- 11. The antenna of claim 10, wherein said feed lines are defined by a third conductive mesh.
- 12. The antenna of claim 1, wherein said first conductive mesh defines a plurality of patches and further including a feed line that connects said patches in parallel.
- 13. The antenna of claim 12, wherein said feed line is defined by a third conductive mesh.
- 14. The antenna of claim 1, wherein said patch has a substantially rectangular shape.
- 15. The antenna of claim 1, wherein said patch has a substantially circular shape.
- 16. The antenna of claim 1, further including a cable having first and second elongate conductors wherein at least one of said conductors is directly coupled to a respective one of said first and second conductive meshes.
- 17. The antenna of claim 16, wherein at least one of said first and second conductive meshes defines a solid area that receives a respective one of said conductors.
- 18. The antenna of claim 17, further including a cable having first and second elongate conductors wherein at least one of said conductors is capacitively coupled to a respective one of said first and second meshes.
- 19. The antenna of claim 1, further including an substantially transparent adhesive between said substrate and said first and second meshes.
- 20. The antenna of claim 1, further including at least one suction cup coupled to said substrate for attachment to a support member.
- 21. The antenna of claim 1, further including an adhesive coupled to said substrate for attachment to a support member.
- 22. A substantially transparent antenna, comprising:
a substantially transparent substrate having first and second sides; a first conductive mesh carried on said first side and configured to define at least one first antenna element; and a second conductive mesh carried on said second side and configured to define at least one second antenna element.
- 23. The antenna of claim 22, wherein said first antenna element is a patch and said second antenna element is a ground plane.
- 24. The antenna of claim 22, wherein said first conductive mesh defines a plurality of patches and further including feed lines that serially connect said patches.
- 25. The antenna of claim 24, wherein said feed lines are defined by a third conductive mesh.
- 26. The antenna of claim 22, wherein said first conductive mesh defines a plurality of patches and further including a feed line that connects said patches in parallel.
- 27. The antenna of claim 26, wherein said feed lines is defined by a third conductive mesh.
- 28. The antenna of claim 22, wherein said first antenna element is a dipole and said second antenna element is a feed line.
- 29. The antenna of claim 22, wherein each of said first and second conductive meshes has a total area, is formed of conductive members which define open spaces between said conductive members that sum to a open-spaces area, and has a transparency of at least 70% wherein transparency is a ratio of open-spaces area to total area.
- 30. The antenna of claim 29, wherein said conductive members are arranged in a substantially-orthogonal relationship.
- 31. The antenna of claim 22, wherein said conductive mesh comprises a metal selected from at least one of aluminum, copper, gold, silver, tin and nickel.
- 32. The antenna of claim 22, wherein said substrate comprises a substantially transparent dielectric material selected from at least one of glass, polystyrene, polycarbonate, air, polyester and acrylic.
- 33. The antenna of claim 22, further including first and second plastic films that each carry a respective one of said first and second conductive meshes.
- 34. The antenna of claim 33, wherein said first and second plastic films comprise polyester.
- 35. The antenna of claim 22, further including a cable having first and second elongate conductors wherein at least one of said conductors is directly coupled to a respective one of said first and second conductive meshes.
- 36. The antenna of claim 22, further including a cable having first and second elongate conductors wherein at least one of said conductors is capacitively coupled to a respective one of said first and second meshes.
- 37. A substantially transparent antenna, comprising:
at least one antenna element that is formed by at least one conductive mesh; and a substantially-transparent substrate that carries said conductive mesh.
- 38. The antenna of claim 22, wherein said conductive mesh has a total area, is formed of conductive members which define open spaces between said conductive members that sum to a open-spaces area, and has a transparency of at least 70% wherein transparency is a ratio of open-spaces area to total area.
- 39. The antenna of claim 40, wherein said conductive members are arranged in a substantially-orthogonal relationship.
- 40. The antenna of claim 37, wherein;
said substrate has first and second sides; and said antenna element includes first and second antenna elements respectively formed by first and second conductive meshes that are respectively carried on said first and second sides.
- 41. The antenna of claim 40, wherein said first antenna element is a patch and said second antenna element is a ground plane.
- 42. The antenna of claim 40, wherein said first antenna element comprises a plurality of patches and further including feed lines that serially connect said patches.
- 43. The antenna of claim 40, wherein said first antenna element comprises a plurality of patches and further including a feed line that connects said patches in parallel.
- 44. The antenna of claim 37, wherein said first antenna element is a dipole and said second antenna element is a feed line.
- 45. The antenna of claim 37, wherein said conductive mesh comprises a metal selected from at least one of aluminum, copper, gold, silver, tin and nickel.
- 46. The antenna of claim 37, wherein said substrate comprises a substantially transparent dielectric material selected from at least one of glass, polystyrene, polycarbonate, air, polyester and acrylic.
- 47. The antenna of claim 22, further including at least one plastic film that carries said conductive mesh.
