Claims
- 1. An electrically operated lock comprising:
- a bolt movable between locking and unlocking positions;
- a rotatable lock actuating member having an engageable portion;
- a movable arm having a first end operatively coupled to said bolt and a second end formed to engage the engageable portion of said lock actuating member;
- a pin extending from said arm;
- an electromagnetic device having a drive element selectively movable between inactivated and activated positions in response to a pulse of electricity;
- an electric control operable to deliver said pulse of electricity in response to receiving a predetermined electrical input signal; and
- a linking element including an opening receiving at least a portion of said pin, said linking element enabled for movement between first and second positions by the drive element of said electromagnetic device when said drive element is moved between the inactivated and activated positions;
- wherein the opening includes at least one guide surface along which the pin moves guide movement of the arm during rotation of said lock acutating member upon termination of said pulse of electricity.
- 2. The lock mechanism of claim 1, wherein said guide surface engages said pin when said lock actuating member engages and moves said arm to thereby move said bolt.
- 3. The lock mechanism of claim 2, wherein said rotatable lock actuating member is a cam having a surface forming a detent.
- 4. The lock mechanism of claim 3, wherein the first end of said arm is pivotally coupled to said bolt and the second end is hook shaped for engaging the detent.
- 5. The lock mechanism of claim 1, wherein the opening includes a plurality of guide surfaces angled with respect to each other.
- 6. The lock mechanism of claim 1, including a spring coupled to said arm and acted upon by movement of said linking element.
- 7. An electrically operated lock, comprising:
- a lock bolt movable between locking and unlocking positions;
- a rotatable lock actuating member having an engagable portion;
- a movable member having a first end portion operatively coupled to said lock bolt and having a second end portion formed to engage the engageable portion of said lock actuating member;
- a mechanism having a first orientation retaining said movable member displaced from the engageable portion of said lock actuating member and a second orientation placing the second end portion of said movable member into position for contact with said engageable portion such that manual rotation of said lock actuating member will engage the second end portion of said movable member with said engageable portion and then move said lock bolt to the unlocking position;
- an electrically-operated drive element operatively coupled to said mechanism and responsive to a pulse of electricity to move said mechanism from said first orientation to said second orientation, wherein said movable member remains in said position for contact with said engageable portion upon termination of said pulse of electricity;
- a pin extending for said movable member;
- a linking element operatively connected to said electrically-operated drive element, said linking element having at least one guide surface along which the pin rides during rotation of the lock actuating member; and
- wherein said pin moves against the guide surface during rotation of said lock actuating member to move the lock bolt to the locking position and thereby displaces said movable member from the engageable portion of said lock actuation member.
