Claims
- 1. A high strength corrugated plate assembly comprising in combination first and second corrugated metal plates, each plate having a plurality of generally sinusoidally shaped, alternating peaks and troughs, troughs of the first plate being in alignment with peaks of the second plate, a plurality of spaced apart tubular spacers disposed between the first and second plates having ends in contact with the first and second plates so as to maintain proximate peaks and troughs of the plates aligned and spaced apart, the ends of the tubular spacers having a contoured configuration shaped to conform to the respective contours of the peaks and the troughs of the plates engaged thereby so as to provide a snug engagement between the spacer ends and the plates, and securing means for each spacer extending into the interior thereof for firmly securing the plates to the spacers and thereby to each other by biasing the plates against the spacer ends.
- 2. A corrugated plate assembly according to claim 1 wherein the securing means comprises bolt means extending through corresponding apertures in the plates, and wherein the tubular spacer includes threaded means disposed intermediate ends of the spacer for engaging the bolt means.
- 3. A corrugated plate assembly according to claim 2 wherein the tubular spacer is constructed of concrete, and wherein the threaded means comprises a metallic insert anchored to the concrete spacer and having a female, bolt engaging thread.
- 4. A corrugated plate assembly according to claim 1 wherein the plates include open spaces between opposing, spaced apart peaks and troughs of the plates, and at least one opening in at least one of the plates communicating each space with the exterior to enable the filling of such space with fresh concrete, and including concrete filling at least some of the spaces.
- 5. A corrugated plate assembly according to claim 4 including reinforcing steel bars partially disposed in the spaces filled with concrete and partially disposed exteriorly of the spaces.
- 6. A corrugated plate assembly according to claim 5 wherein the concrete reinforcing bars extend perpendicular to the peaks and troughs of the plates.
- 7. A corrugated plate assembly according to claim 5 including additional concrete reinforcing bars extending parallel to the spaces, the additional reinforcing bars being completely surrounded by the concrete in the concrete filled spaces.
- 8. A corrugated metal plate assembly comprising first and second corrugated metal plates, each plate having a plurality of alternating peaks and troughs, spacer means disposed between aligned and proximate peaks and troughs of the plates for maintaining such peaks and troughs spaced apart, the spacer means having respective ends in contact with the plates which are contoured so as to conform their shape to the respective contours of the peaks and the troughs of the plates for snug engagement therewith, the spacer means being constructed of concrete and including a hollow interior and threaded inserts disposed intermediate ends of the spacer means, bolt means extending through apertures in the plates into engagement with the threaded inserts for tightening the first and second plates against the spacer means and for thereby firmly securing the plates in spaced apart relationship to each other.
