Claims
- 1. A conductor having a ceramic electrically insulative coating, comprising:said insulative coating having been applied by dipping the conductor in a sol gel coating solution made up of one of; 1) Zirconium tetrabutoxide; 2) Zirconium tetrabutoxide and Magnesium 2,4-pentadionate; 3) Zirconium tetrabutoxide and Yttrium nitrate; 4) Zirconium tetrabutoxide and Yttrium isoproxide; 5) Zirconium tetrabutoxide and Cerium (III) 2,4 pentadionate; 6) Zirconium tetrabutoxide and Indium oxide; 7) Zirconium tetrabutoxide and Indium isoproxide; and 8) Zirconium tetrabutoxide and Tin oxide; a solvent; and a catalyst; drying the dip coated conductor at a temperature and for a time sufficient to evaporate the solvent and catalyst; and heating the conductor in an oxygen containing atmosphere at a temperature and for a time sufficient to result in the ceramic electrically insulative coating which is one of 1) ZrO2, 2) MgO—ZrO2, 3) Y2O3—ZrO2, 4) CeO2—ZrO2, 5) In2O3—ZrO2, and 6) SnO2—ZrO2, and the ceramic coating being chemically bonded to the conductor.
- 2. A conductor as in claim 1 wherein said catalyst is acetyl acetone and said solvent is isopropanol.
- 3. A conductor as in claim 1 wherein said conductor is made up of a matrix of one of Ag/Bi-2212 and AgMg/Bi-2212, and said resultant insulative coating is made of MgO—ZrO2.
- 4. A conductor as in claim 1 wherein said conductor is made up of a matrix of one of Ag/Bi-2212 and AgMg/Bi-2212, and said resultant insulative coating is made of Y2O3—ZrO2.
- 5. A conductor as in claim 1 wherein said conductor is made up of a matrix of one of Ag/Bi-2212 and AgMg/Bi-2212, and said resultant insulative coating is made of CeO2—ZrO2.
- 6. A conductor as in claim 1 wherein said conductor is made up of a matrix of one of Cu/Nb3Sn and Cu—Sn/Nb3Sn, and said resultant insulative coating is made of In2O3—ZrO2.
- 7. A conductor as in claim 1 wherein said conductor is made up of a matrix of one of Cu/Nb3Sn and Cu—Sn/Nb3Sn, and said resultant insulative coating is made of SnO2—ZrO2.
