Claims
- 1. A high temperature enclosure comprising a metal supporting structure having secured thereon an internal lining of refractory/insulating modules arranged in side to side relation with a resilient packing strip of refractory material arranged under compression between the sides of adjoining modules wherein each module comprises a rectangular block which is moulded in one piece from ceramic fibre by a vacuum forming operation and has a resilient packing strip secured along two adjacent sides thereof and wherein the said blocks are secured in position on said structure by fastening members each having a body portion disposed between the sides of adjoining blocks, laterally and oppositely directed sharp projections which are pressed into and pierce the said sides, and a laterally directed foot which is secured to the said structure.
- 2. A high temperature enclosure comprising a metal supporting structure having secured thereon an internal lining consisting of a plurality of refractory/insulating modules arranged in side to side relation wherein each module comprises a first block moulded in one piece from ceramic fibre and having a front wall, the front face of which constitutes the hot face of the module, and side walls which with the front wall form a rearwardly open cavity, a closure for the said cavity comprising a second block of insulating material secured to the back of the said first block, and insulating material enclosed within the said cavity; a layer of resilient ceramic fibre material arranged under compression between the sides of adjoining modules; and fastening members securing the modules to the supporting structure, each said member comprising a body portion which is disposed between the sides of adjoining modules, laterally and oppositely directed sharp projections which are pressed into and pierce the facing side walls of the first blocks of the said adjoining modules and a foot which is secured to the structure.
- 3. A high temperature enclosure as claimed in claim 2 wherein each fastening member comprises a generally V shaped member formed to provide at the free end of each arm two spikes which extend in opposite directions at right angles to a plane containing the arms, and at the apex of the V, a foot which extends at right angles to the said plane.
- 4. A high temperature enclosure as claimed in claim 2 wherein each fastening member is made from sheet metal, the foot is bent at right angles to the body portion and the laterally and oppositely directed projections are constituted by four sharp pointed triangular tongues bent out at right angles to the body portion and arranged two on each side of the body portion.
- 5. A high temperature enclosure as claimed in claim 4 wherein the two tongues on the same side of the body portion are disposed in respective planes which lie at an angle to one another.
- 6. A high temperature enclosure as claimed in claim 2 wherein the outer side surfaces of the side walls of the said first block are inclined inwardly from front to back of the block.
- 7. A high temperature enclosure as claimed in claim 2 wherein the outer side surfaces of the side walls of the said first block are each formed with a shallow groove which extends parallel to and spaced from the front face of the block.
- 8. A high temperature enclosure comprising an external metal casing having an internal lining comprising a plurality of refractory/insulating modules each of which comprises a block moulded in one piece from ceramic fibre and having a front wall, the front face of which constitutes the hot face of the module and side walls which with the front wall form a rearwardly open cavity and which have their outer side surfaces inclined inwardly from front to back of the block, a layer of compressible insulating fabric compressed between the outer side surface of each side of each block and the corresponding surface of the next adjacent block or blocks, and each block being secured to the external metal casing by fastening members each having a body portion disposed against a side wall of the block, a portion which pierces into said side wall of the block and a foot by which the fastening member is secured to the metal casing.
- 9. A high temperature enclosure as claimed in claim 8 wherein for each fastening member a stud is welded to the casing and has the foot of the fastening member secured thereto.
- 10. A high temperature enclosure as claimed in claim 8 wherein said portion of the fastening member piercing into a side surface of a block comprises two planar teeth disposed in respective planes which extend at an angle to each other.
