Claims
- 1. A composition of matter consisting essentially of a mixture of compounds of the formulas: ##STR8## wherein R.sub.1 is a tetravalent aryl radical and R.sub.2 is alkyl or hydrogen; and at least two of R.sub.2 being alkyl;
- (b)
- H.sub.2 N--R.sub.3 --NH.sub.2
- wherein R.sub.3 is a divalent aryl radical; ##STR9## wherein R.sub.2 is as defined in (a) and at least one R.sub.2 is aklyl, and R.sub.4 is divalent radical of the formula: ##STR10## or ##STR11## wherein R.sub.5 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; and wherein the molar ratio of a:b:c is n:(n+1):2 wherein n has a value from 1 to 20, and (d) an N-arylnadimide present in an amount of about 0.5 to 10% by weight of the total composition said N-arylnadimide being selected from the group consisting of; ##STR12##
- 2. A process for preparing a polyimide resin which comprises reacting, by application of heat, a mixture of compounds of the formulas: ##STR13## wherein R.sub.1 is a tetravalent aryl radical and R.sub.2 is alkyl or hydrogen, and at least two or R.sub.2 are alkyl
- (b)
- H.sub.2 N--R.sub.3 --NH.sub.2
- wherein R.sub.3 is a divalent aryl radical; and ##STR14## wherein R.sub.2 is as defined in a and at least one R.sub.2 is alkyl, and R.sub.4 is a divalent radical of the formula: ##STR15## or ##STR16## wherein R.sub.5 is hydrogen or lower alkyl, and wherein the molar ratio of a:b:c: is n:(n+1):2, wherein n has a value of 1 to 20, and, (d) an N-arylnadimide present in an amount of about 0.5 to 10% by weight of the total composition said N-arylnadimide being selected from the group consisting of; ##STR17## and wherein said application of heat raises the temperature of said reaction mixture to at least 205.degree. C. to obtain polyimide prepolymers.
- 3. A process as claimed in claim 2 wherein the mixture of comounds is heated to a temperature of about 350.degree. C. to obtain a polyimide polymer.
