Claims
- 1. A hinge comprising:
- a stationary base for mounting directly to a furniture wall, said base being formed centrally with an opening;
- a central insert which is smaller in width than said opening, said insert having a pair of transversely extending and upwardly facing projections, and being fitted in said opening at the bottom of said base;
- a pair of projections extending inwardly from the transverse edges of said opening, and each formed with a downwardly facing groove in which one of said projections of said insert is engaged slidably;
- said base having a pair of arm receiving grooves each formed with a plurality of teeth therein;
- an L-shaped arm having a bifurcated portion slidably received in said arm receiving grooves, formed with a plurality of teeth engaged with said teeth in said arm receiving grooves, and defining an elongated slot therein; and
- a plurality of screws extending through said slot, and threadedly connected with said insert, whereby said arm is movable in four longitudinal and transverse directions for fine positional adjustment relative to said base.
- 2. An adjustable hinge for pivotally connecting a first member to a second member and comprising in combination:
- (a) a base having upper and lower sides and adapted to be mounted with its lower side in a fixed position on said first member, said base comprising a first pair of elongated portions spaced from each other and a second pair of elongated portions spaced from each other and joining at opposite ends thereof respectively said first pair of elongated portions, said elongated portions defining the perimeter of an opening in said base, a pair of parallel elongated grooves in the upper surface of said base, each of said grooves extending from one end of said base along the upper surface of at least a substantial portion of the length of one of said first elongated portions;
- (b) an elongated central insert extending across said opening and between said second pair of elongated portions of said base, opposite ends thereof slidably engaging the lower sides of the respective of said second pair of elongated portions of said base such that said central insert may be moved across said opening between said first pair of elongated portions, said central insert having at least one internally threaded aperture therein;
- (c) an arm having a bifurcated portion comprising a pair of spaced parallel members with an elongated slot therebetween, said spaced parallel members being slidably received respectively in said pair of parallel elongated grooves in the upper surface of said base; and
- (d) screw means slidably engaging said pair of spaced parallel members of said arm and extending through said slot and into said at least one internally threaded aperture in said elongated central insert;
- (e) whereby said arm may be adjustably moved both longitudinally and laterally relative to said base while said base is fixed to said first member and, after adjustment, may be secured in a fixed position relative to said base by said screw means.
- 3. An adjustable hinge as set forth in claim 2 further comprising guide means adjacent said opposite ends of said elongated central insert and on said lower sides of said second pair of elongated portions of said base for maintaining said elongated insert in position relative to said base during movement of said elongated central insert.
- 4. An adjustable hinge as set forth in claim 3 wherein said guide means comprises grooves on the surfaces of one of the opposite ends of said central insert and the lower surfaces of said second pair of elongated portions of said base and corresponding projections on the surfaces of the other of the opposite ends of said central insert and the lower surfaces of said second pair of elongated portions of said base.
- 5. An adjustable hinge as set forth in claim 3 wherein said lower sides of each of said second pair of elongated portions of said base include an elongated portion of the surface thereof adjacent said opening spaced from the plane of the lower side of said base in contact with said first member, said opposite ends of said elongated central insert contacting said elongated portions of the surface of the lower sides of said second pair of elongated portions.
- 6. An adjustable hinge as set forth in claim 3 wherein each of said second pair of elongated portions of said base includes a projection extending inwardly and having a downwardly facing surface, said opposite ends of said elongated central insert contacting said downwardly facing surfaces respectively and being slidable therealong.
- 7. An adjustable hinge as set forth in claim 2 wherein each of said grooves has a plurality of teeth in the surface thereof and each of said parallel members of said arm has teeth on the surface thereof, said teeth of the respective members and grooves engaging each other when said arm is secured in a fixed position relative to said base by said screw means.
