Claims
- 1. A holding tool used with a water pump pulley connected to a fan clutch, said pulley having at least a pair of fasteners each with an exposed fastener head and extending from a surface of the pulley, the surface of the pulley being next to the fan clutch to provide a narrow space between said surface and the fan clutch,
said tool comprising a tool head sized to fit into the space between the surface of the pulley and the fan clutch, said tool head including a hook arm and a lever arm joined together to provide a common edge, said common edge having a terminal end including said hook arm, said hook arm including an outwardly projecting tip from which an arcuate edge portion curves inward to enable said hook arm to grasp one fastener head of one fastener with the arcuate edge portion bearing against said one fastener head, and said lever arm having a straight edge portion that bears against another fastener head of another fastener when said hook arm is grasping said one fastener head of said one fastener, said arcuate edge portion and said straight edge portion forming, at least in part, said common edge.
- 2. A tool comprising
a substantially flat tool head having a thickness no greater than ¾ inch, said tool head including an edge having arcuate edge portion that curves inwardly and is sized to enable said arcuate edge portion to grasp a fastener head of a first fastener with the arcuate edge portion bearing against said fastener head of said first fastener, and a straight edge portion having an inner end merging with an inner end of the arcuate edge portion, said straight edge portion having a length of at least 1 inch to enable said straight edge portion to bear against a fastener head of a second fastener nearby said first fastener when said arcuate edge portion is grasping said fastener head of said first fastener, said arcuate edge portion and said straight edge portion forming a common edge.
- 3. The tool according to claim 2 the straight edge portion has a length from 1 to 10 inches.
- 4. The tool according to claim 2 the tool head has a thickness from {fraction (1/16)} to ¾ inch and a width from 2 to 10 inches.
- 5. The tool according to claim 2 where the arcuate edge portion is at a terminal end of the common edge.
- 6. The tool according to claim 2 where the straight edge portion includes a plurality of edge segments that merge to form at least one angle.
- 7. The tool according to claim 6 where the angle is from 60 to 180 degrees.
- 8. The tool according to claim 2 where the tool head is connected to a handle.
- 9. The tool according to claim 8 where the tool head and handle are integral.
- 10. The tool according to claim 8 where the tool head includes a connector component adapted to attach and detach the tool head to a handle.
- 11. A holding tool used with a water pump pulley connected to a fan clutch, said pulley having at least a pair of fasteners each with a fastener head thereof exposed and extending from a surface of the pulley, the surface of the pulley being next to the fan clutch to provide a narrow space between said surface and the fan clutch,
said tool comprising a substantially flat tool head having a thickness from {fraction (1/16)} to ¾ inch and a width from 2 to 10 inches, said tool head including a hook arm and a lever arm joined together to provide a common edge, said common edge having a terminal end including said hook arm, said hook arm including an outwardly projecting tip from which an arcuate edge portion curves inward to enable said hook arm to grasp one fastener head of one fastener with the arcuate edge portion bearing against said one fastener head, and said lever arm having a straight edge portion that bears against another fastener head of another fastener when said hook arm is grasping said one fastener head of said one fastener, said straight edge portion having a length of at least 1 inch, said arcuate edge portion and said straight edge portion forming, at least in part, said common edge.
- 12. The tool according to claim 11 where the straight edge portion includes a plurality of edge segments that merge to form at least one angle, said plurality of edge segments in combination having said length of at least 1 inch.
- 13. The tool according to claim 12 the straight edge portion has a length from 1 to 10 inches.
- 14. The tool according to claim 12 where the angle is from 60 to 180 degrees.
- 15. The tool according to claim 11 where the tool head is integral with a handle.
- 16. The tool according to claim 11 where the tool head includes a connector component adapted to attach and detach the tool head to a handle.
- 17. A method of connecting or disconnecting a water pump pulley attached by a threaded shaft to a connector on a fan clutch, said pulley having at least a pair of fasteners each with a fastener head thereof exposed and extending from a surface of the pulley, the surface of the pulley being next to the fan clutch to provide a narrow space between said surface and the fan clutch,
said method comprising inserting into the space between said surface and the fan clutch a head of a tool that is narrow enough to fit into said space, said tool head including a hook element at an end of a straight edge lever element, grasping a fastener head of one fastener with the hook element and engaging a fastener head of another fastener with the straight edge lever element, and while grasping the fastener head of said one fastener with the hook element and engaging the fastener head of said another fastener with the straight edge lever element, inserting into said space a second tool and grasping the connector on the fan clutch, while both tools are engaged, turning one or both said tools to disconnect or connect the threaded shaft of water pump pulley and the connector on a fan clutch.
- 18. The method according to claim 17 where said tool head is substantially flat and has a thickness no greater than ¾ inch.
- 19. The method according to claim 18 where straight edge lever element has a length of at least 1 inch.
- 20. The method according to claim 19 where the straight edge lever element includes a plurality of edge segments that merge to form at least one angle, said plurality of edge segments in combination having said length of at least 1 inch.
- 21. The method according to claim 20 where the angle is from 60 to 180 degrees.
- 22. The method according to claim 17 where the tool head is connected to a handle.
