Claims
- 1. A paper punch machine die assembly comprising:
a front portion and a back portion; wherein said front portion comprises an elongated die having a longitudinal axis, a slot parallel to the longitudinal axis for receiving paper and a plurality of die holes extending perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis; and wherein said back portion comprises: an elongated pin-retainer plate generally parallel to said elongated die and having a front surface, a back surface, a longitudinal axis, and a plurality of retainer holes extending through said plate from the back surface to the front surface; a plurality of punch pins slidably extending through said retainer holes, each punch pin having a first end in back of said plate and a second end extending from said plate front surface to said elongated die and slidably received in one of said die holes; wherein the die assembly further comprises: a strap movable to a first position extending across the first ends of said pins and holding the pins in the pin-retainer plate, and movable to a second position away from and revealing said pin first ends to allow removal of said pins from the pin-retainer plate; and a quick-releasable latch system for holding the strap in the first position, the latch system being quick-releasable to free the strap to move into the second position.
- 2. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 1, wherein the latch system comprises a portion of the strap quick-releasably connecting to the back portion.
- 3. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 1, wherein the latch system comprises a portion of the strap quick-releasably connecting to the pin-retainer plate.
- 4. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 1, further comprising a connector slidably connecting the pin-retainer plate to the front portion, and wherein the latch system comprises a portion of said strap quick-releasably connecting to the connector.
- 5. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 1, further comprising a connector slidably connecting the pin-retainer plate to the front portion, and wherein the latch system comprises a portion of said strap quick-releasably extending at least part way around the connector.
- 6. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 1, further comprising a connector slidably connecting the pin-retainer plate to the front portion, and wherein the latch system comprises a portion of said strap snapping over the connector.
- 7. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 1, wherein the latch system further comprises a hinge on which the strap pivots in a plane perpendicular to the back surface of the pin-retainer plate.
- 8. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 1, wherein the strap is movable to the second position by pivoting away from the pins.
- 9. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 1, wherein the strap is movable to the second position by flexing away from the pins.
- 10. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 1, wherein the strap has two ends and the latch system comprises a quick-releasable connection of the strap to the back portion at or near at least one of said two ends.
- 11. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 10, wherein the latch system does not comprise bolts.
- 12. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 10, wherein the latch system does not comprise screws.
- 13. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 10, wherein the latch system comprises frictional attachment of the strap to the back portion.
- 14. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 10, wherein the latch system comprises a snap-on and snap-off attachment of the strap to the back portion.
- 15. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 1, wherein the strap has two ends and the latch system comprises a quick-releasable connection of the strap to the back portion at or near both of said two ends of the strap.
- 16. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 15, wherein the latch system does not comprise bolts.
- 17. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 15, wherein the latch system does not comprise screws.
- 18. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 15, wherein the latch system comprises frictional attachment of the strap to the back portion.
- 19. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 15, wherein the latch system comprises a snap-on and snap-off attachment of the strap to the back portion.
- 20. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 1, wherein the latch system does not comprise bolts.
- 21. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 1, wherein the latch system does not comprise screws.
- 22. A paper punch machine die assembly comprising:
a front portion and a back portion; wherein said front portion comprises an elongated die having a longitudinal axis, a slot parallel to the longitudinal axis for receiving paper and a plurality of die holes extending perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis; and wherein said back portion comprises: an elongated pin-retainer plate generally parallel to said elongated die and having a front surface, a back surface, a longitudinal axis, and a plurality of retainer holes extending through said plate from the back surface to the front surface; a plurality of punch pins slidably extending through said retainer holes, each punch pin having a first end in back of said plate and a second end extending from said plate front surface to said elongated die and slidably received in one of said die holes; wherein the die assembly further comprises: a strap member movably connected to the back portion so that the strap member is movable to a first position extending across the first ends of said pins and holding the pins in the pin-retainer plate, and movable to a second position away from and revealing said pin first ends to allow removal of said pins from the pin-retainer plate; and a quick-releasable latch system that latches the strap member to said back portion to hold the strap member in the first position and that unlatches the strap member to free the strap member to move into the second position, wherein the latch system does not comprise bolting the strap member to the back portion and does not comprise attaching the strap member to the back portion with screws.
- 23. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 22, wherein the strap member being movable to said second position comprises the strap member being pivotal away from said pin first ends.
- 24. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 22, wherein the strap member is flexible and wherein the strap member being movable to said second position comprises the strap member being flexible away from said pin first ends.
- 25. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 22, wherein the strap member comprises a hinge and wherein the strap member being movable to said second position comprises the strap member being pivotal on said hinge away from said pin first ends.
- 26. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 22, wherein said strap member has a first end and a second end, and wherein the latch system latches the strap member to the back portion at or near at least one of said first end and said second end.
- 27. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 22, wherein said strap member has a first end and a second end, and wherein the latch system latches the strap member to the back portion at or near both of said first end and said second end.
- 28. A paper punch machine die assembly comprising:
a front portion and a back portion; wherein said front portion comprises an elongated die having a longitudinal axis, a slot parallel to the longitudinal axis for receiving paper and a plurality of die holes extending perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis; and wherein said back portion comprises: an elongated pin-retainer plate generally parallel to said elongated die and having a front surface, a back surface, a longitudinal axis, and a plurality of retainer holes extending through said plate from the back surface to the front surface; a plurality of punch pins slidably extending through said retainer holes, each punch pin having a first end in back of said plate and a second end extending from said plate front surface to said elongated die and slidably received in one of said die holes; wherein the die assembly further comprises: a strap member movable to a first position extending across the first ends of said pins and holding the pins in the pin-retainer plate, and movable to a second position away from and revealing said pin first ends to allow removal of said pins from the pin-retainer plate; and a quick-releasable latch system comprising a mechanism releasably connecting an end of the strap member to said back portion to hold the strap member in the first position, wherein the quick-releasable latch system is unlatchable to free said end of the strap member so that the strap member is moveable into the second position, wherein unlatching the quick-releasable latch system does not comprise loosening a bolt and does not comprise loosening a screw.
- 29. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 28, wherein the strap member being movable to said second position comprises the strap member being pivotal away from said pin first ends.
- 30. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 28, wherein the strap member is flexible and wherein the strap member being movable to said second position comprises the strap member being flexible away from said pin first ends.
- 31. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 28, wherein the strap member comprises a hinge and wherein the strap member being movable to said second position comprises the strap member pivoting on said hinge away from said pin first ends.
- 32. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 28, wherein said end of the strap member is a first end of the strap member, and the strap member further has a second end, and wherein said mechanism releasably connects the strap member to the back portion at or near at least one of said first end and said second end.
- 33. A paper punch machine die assembly as in claim 28, wherein said end of the strap member is a first end of the strap member, and the strap member further has a second end, and wherein said mechanism releasably connects the strap member to the back portion at or near both of said first end and said second end.

No. 09/547,816, filed Apr. 11, 2000, entitled “Hole Punch Quick-Change Die Assembly with Pin Strap and Positioning System,” which is a continuation-in-part of U.S. Utility patent application Ser. No. 09/076,920, filed May 12, 1998, entitled “Hole Punch Quick-Change Die Assembly with Pin Strap and Positioning System” and issued on Apr. 11, 2000 as U.S. Pat. No. 6,047,623, which is a continuation-in-part of 08/611,301, entitled “Hole Punch with Quick-Change Die Assembly,” filed Mar. 5, 1996, issued on June 1998 as U.S. Pat. No. 5,771,768.
