A clip of the holster is secured with a top edge of the holster holder. A recess or notch may retain a tang of the clip. The holster holder is removably secured to a bottom of the handbag so that a pistol carried therein is reliably positioned for a quick retrieval of the pistol
Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to firearms holsters, and more particularly to holsters for securing a firearm in a handbag.

Conventional holsters for firearms secure the firearm to the user's body.

Typically, this is achieved by a belt, a clip. And the like. However, these Holsters can be bulky. And uncomfortable to wear. Particularly for women. Other holsters may be secured to the user's body by straps about the user's shoulders.

Many women who carry a firearm also carry a handbag, such as a purse.

However, there are few holsters designed to be contained within a purse that are able to secure the firearm. This can lead to the firearm becoming dirty, difficult to find when needed, and, if the purse is jostled around too much, the firearm may accidentally discharge.

As can be seen, there is a need for an improved Holster for carrying a firearm in a handbag.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In one aspect of the present invention, a holster holder for a handbag is disclosed. The holster holder includes a container having at least one side wall which defines an interior cavity, the container defining a protective enclosure dimensioned to contain a holster for a firearm. A reinforced edge is defined about a top edge of the container to facilitate retaining the container in an open position for an insertion and a removal of the firearm from the container. A recess is provided in the at least one sidewall at an intermediate position thereof. The recess is dimensioned to receive a retaining tang of a clip of the holster when the clip is secured over the top edge of the at least one sidewall.

In some embodiments, the container includes at least one bottom wall.

The at least one side wall and the bottom wall are formed of a rigid or a semi-rigid material. The rigid or semi-rigid material may be a thermoplastic material.

In some embodiments, a length of the container is dimensioned to accommodate at least a vertical height of a pistol hen retained in the holster the vertical height measured from a base of the butt to a top edge of the holster extending along the barrel. A width of the container spans a lateral dimension of the pistol, when carried in the holster. A depth of the container is dimensioned to contain a barrel end of the holster to a trigger guard of the pistol when retained in the holster.

In some embodiments, a reinforcement is defined along a top edge of the recess to facilitate retention of the clip.

In other embodiments, a fastener is attached with a bottom end of the container. The fastener is positioned to cooperatively engage with a corresponding fastener secured to a bottom of a handbag.

In other aspects of the invention, handbag with removable holster holder is disclosed. The handbag with removable holster holder includes a handbag, having an interior compartment and a bottom. A container having at least one side wall defining an interior cavity is removably attached with the bottom. The container provides a protective enclosure that is dimensioned to contain a holster for a firearm. An edge is defined about a top of the container and is configured to be received within a retaining clip of the holster. A recess is provided in the at least one sidewall at an intermediate position thereof. the recess is dimensioned to receive a retaining tang of a clip of the holster when the clip is secured over the top edge of the at least one sidewall.

In some embodiments, a fastener is attached with a bottom end of the container. The fastener is positioned to cooperatively engage with a corresponding fastener secured to the bottom of the handbag. When the faster is engaged with the corresponding fastener, the holster holder is retained in a desired position within the handbag.

These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention.

Broadly, embodiments of the present invention provide a holster holder for carrying a firearm, such as a pistol, securely in a handbag 11A. A holster holder 10 according to aspects of the invention may be seen in reference to the drawings. The holster holder 10 Is dimension to be retained within an interior compartment of a handbag 11A.

The holster holder 12 is configured to hold a holster 11 B by a clip 11C extending from a lateral sidewall of the holster 11 B. The holster holder 12 is formed a s a container having at least one side wall and, preferably, a bottom wall, which defines an interior cavity. The at least one side wall and the bottom wall are formed of a rigid or semi-rigid material, such as a thermoplastic material, leather, metals, composites, and the like. The sidewall and the bottom wall provide a protective enclosure around the pistol 11D and have sufficient rigidity to retain the holster 11 B, the clip 11C, and the pistol 11 D in an upright orientation within the handbag.

The holster holder 12 has a length to accommodate at least vertical height of the pistol 11 D when retained in the holster 11B, measured from a base of the butt to a top edge of the holsterl 1 B extending along the barrel. The holster holder 12 has a width to span a lateral dimension of the pistol 11 D and holster 11 B. The holster holder 12 has a depth to contain a barrel end of the holster 11 B to a trigger guard of the pistol 11D, when retained in the holster 11 B.

A top end of the holster holder 12 may have a reinforced edge 16 to facilitate retaining the holster holder 12 in an open position and for durability of holster holder 12 for insertion and removal of the pistol 11D and/or the holster 11 B from the holster holder 12.

A cutout 14 or a recess is provided in the at least one sidewall at an intermediate position of the at least one sidewall. The cutout 14 or recess is dimensioned to receive a retaining tang of the clip 11C of the holster 11 B when the clip 11C is secured over the top edge of the at least one sidewall. A top edge of the recess 14 may also have a reinforcement 16 to facilitate retention of the clip 11C and improved durability of the holster holder 12.

A bottom end of the holster holder 12 is adapted to be attached with a bottom of the handbag 11A, via a cooperating fastener 18, 20. The cooperating fastener 18, 20 may be a hook and a loop material, a snap, or similar. The cooperating fastener 18, 20 retains the holster holder 12 at a desired location within the handbag 12 so that the pistol 11D will be reliably positioned where the user may easily and consistently locate the pistol 11D, when needed.

In use, the user would determine a desired location for positioning their pistol 11D within their handbag 11A. A first cooperating fastener 18 is secured with a bottom of the holster holder 12. A second cooperating fastener 20 is secured with the bottom of the handbag 11A to mount the holster holder 12 at the desired location.

Once mounted, the user may insert the holster 11C into the holster holder 12.

The clip 11C of the holster 11 B is positioned to receive the top edge of holster holder 12. The holster 11B is pressed downwardly until the retaining tang of the clip 11C is received in the recess or cutout 14. The pistol 11D may then be inserted into the holster 11 B where the pistol 11D will be securely retained within the handbag 11A. When the user needs the pistol 11D, they may simply reach into their handbag 11A and withdraw the pistol 11 D from the holster 11 B.

It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
