Claims
- 1. A low alloy steel product having high hardenability and good machinability in the presence of a relatively low S content, said steel consisting essentially of the following composition in weight percent:
- ______________________________________C from about .42 to about .52Si from about .15 to about .35Ni from about .65 to about .95Cr from about 1.40 to about 1.60Mo from about .30 to about .50Mn from about .75 to about .95V from about .04 to about .10S from about .010 to about .025Ti from about .003 to about .075Al from about .015 to about .030Ca about 15% of AlH 2.2 ppm maxO 30 ppm maxFe balance and non-deleterious impurities______________________________________
- 2. The low alloy steel product of claim 1 further characterized in that said steel product consists essentially of the following composition in weight percent:
- ______________________________________C about .47Si about .30Ni about .80Cr about 1.50Mo about .40Mn about .90V about .05S about .022 maxTi about .005-.020Al about .015-.020Ca about 15% of AlH 2.2 ppm maxO 30 ppm maxFe balance and non-deleterious impurities______________________________________
- 3. The low alloy steel product of claim 2 further characterized in that S is present in an amount of about 0.015.
- 4. The low alloy steel product of claim 1 further characterized in that S is present in an amount of about 0.015.
