Claims
- 1. A vehicle, comprising:a source of main propulsion fluid; a nozzle coupled to said source of propulsion fluid, for generating propulsion thrust by discharge of said main propulsion fluid generally along a discharge axis; and a hybrid exhaust fluid generator including a solid grain, said hybrid exhaust fluid generator including an exit port coupled to a side of said nozzle at a first location, and also including an oxidizer input port, for generating secondary fluid at said exit port in response to reaction of said grain with oxidizer applied to said oxidizer input port, and for injecting said secondary fluid into said side of said nozzle for thereby deflecting said main propulsion thrust relative to said wherein said main propulsion fluid is at a high temperature, and said exit port is coupled to side of said nozzle in a such a manner that heat from said main propulsion fluid heats said grain, whereby said grain tends to combust readily with said oxidizer.
- 2. A vehicle according to claim 1, wherein the amount of said deflection is controlled by control of the flow of said oxidizer to said oxidizer input port of said hybrid exhaust fluid generator.
- 3. A vehicle according to claim 1, further comprising a further hybrid exhaust fluid generator, said further hybrid exhaust fluid generator including a solid grain and an exit port coupled to said side of said nozzle at a position angularly spaced, relative to said axis, to said first location, and also including an oxidizer input port, said further hybrid exhaust fluid generator being for generating further secondary fluid at said exit port of said further hybrid exhaust fluid generator in response to reaction of said oxidizer, and for injecting said further secondary fluid into said side of said nozzle at said position angularly spaced, for thereby deflecting said main propulsion thrust, relative to said axis, in a direction opposed to that of said first-mentioned hybrid exhaust fluid generator.
- 4. A vehicle according to claim 3, wherein said position angularly spaced is angularly spaced by 180°, so that said first-mentioned hybrid exhaust fluid generator and said further hybrid exhaust fluid generator are diametrically opposed to each other.
- 5. A vehicle according to claim 3, further comprising control means coupled to said oxidizer input ports of said first-mentioned and further hybrid exhaust fluid generators, for, when thrust deviation is desired within a plane including said axis and said first-mentioned hybrid exhaust fluid generator, providing one of said first-mentioned and further hybrid exhaust fluid generators with oxidizer.
- 6. A vehicle according to claim 5, wherein said control means couples said oxidizer to said one of said first-mentioned and further hybrid exhaust fluid generators to the exclusion of the other one of said first-mentioned and further hybrid exhaust fluid generators.
- 7. A vehicle according to claim 5, further comprising:a source of fluid oxidizer; and wherein said control means comprises controllable valve means coupled between said source of fluid oxidizer and said oxidizer input ports of said first-mentioned and further hybrid exhaust fluid generators.
