Claims
- 1. A reversible liquid/solid phase change composition comprising hydrated MgCl.sub.2 and as a nucleating additive, one or more of the group of Sr(OH).sub.2, SrCO.sub.3, BaO, or Na.sub.3 AlF.sub.6 added to the composition in an amount effective to suppress average supercooling of the MgCl.sub.2 liquid phase to about 2.degree. C. or less.
- 2. The composition of claim 1, wherein the hydrated MgCl.sub.2 consists of about 46 weight percent MgCl.sub.2 and the balance is water to 100 weight percent.
- 3. The composition of claim 1 hermetically contained within encapsulating means.
- 4. The composition of claim 1 comprising not greater than about 2.0 weight percent Sr(OH).sub.2 as a nucleating additive.
- 5. The composition of claim 1 comprising not greater than about 2.0 weight percent SrCO.sub.3 as a nucleating additive.
- 6. The composition of claim 1 comprising not greater than about 2.0 weight percent BaO as a nucleating additive.
- 7. The composition of claim 1 comprising not greater than about 2.0 weight percent Na.sub.3 AlF.sub.6 as a nucleating additive.
- 8. A method of preparing a hydrated MgCl.sub.2 composition of suppressed supercooling properties, comprising admixing uniformly in such composition, one or more of Sr(OH).sub.2, SrCO.sub.3, BaO, or Na.sub.3 AlF.sub.6 in an amount effective to suppress average supercooling of the MgCl.sub.2 liquid phase to about 2.degree. C. or less.
- 9. The method of claim 8, wherein the hydrated MgCl.sub.2 consists of about 46 weight percent MgCl.sub.2 and the balance is water to 100 weight percent.
- 10. The method of claim 8 using the additive Sr(OH).sub.2.
- 11. The method of claim 8 using the additive SrCO.sub.3.
- 12. The method of claim 8 using the additive BaO.
- 13. The method of claim 8 using the additive Na.sub.3 AlF.sub.6.
