Claims
- 1. A control valve, comprising:
(a) a valve body defining an inlet and a first outlet and a second outlet, (b) a moveable piston within the valve body positionable in at least a first and a second position, (c) a spring biasing the piston to one of the first and second positions, and (d) a pressure responsive indexer selectively engaging the piston to move the piston between the first and the second positions; the piston substantially preventing flow from the inlet to the first outlet and allowing flow from the inlet to the second outlet when in the first position; the piston substantially preventing flow from the inlet to the second outlet and allowing flow from the inlet to the first outlet when in the second position.
- 2. A valve for use in a well, comprising:
(a) a valve closure member; (b) a hydraulic control line; and (c) a distributor having at least one inlet and a plurality of outlets, the at least one inlet adapted for receipt of pressurized fluid from the hydraulic control line, the distributor responsive to the pressurized fluid to selectively communicate the pressurized fluid to the plurality of outlets, and the plurality of outlets adapted to communicate the pressurized fluid to the valve closure member.
- 3. The valve of claim 2, wherein the valve is a hydraulically operated well safety valve.
- 4. The valve of claim 2, wherein the valve is a flapper valve.
- 5. The valve of claim 2, wherein the plurality of outlets are further adapted to manipulate one or more hydraulic devices.
- 6. The valve of claim 2, wherein the plurality of outlets are further adapted to manipulate a second distributor.
- 7. The valve of claim 2, wherein the distributor is provided in a wall of the valve.
- 8. The valve of claim 2, wherein the valve is part of a tool string.
- 9. The valve of claim 8, wherein the distributor is provided in a wall of the tool string.
- 10. A valve for use in a well, comprising:
(a) a control unit; (b) a valve closure member; (c) a piston assembly; (d) a release assembly adapted for releasing the valve closure member from the control unit; (e) a first distributor having at least one inlet and a plurality of outlets, the plurality of outlets for manipulating the valve closure member and a second distributor; and (f) a second distributor having at least one inlet and a plurality of outlets, the at least one inlet in communication with the first distributor, the plurality of outlets for manipulating the piston assembly and the release assembly.
- 11. The valve of claim 10, wherein the valve is a subsea control valve.
- 12. The valve of claim 10, wherein the distributor is provided in a wall of the valve.
- 13. The valve of claim 10, wherein the valve is part of a tool string.
- 14. The valve of claim 13, wherein the distributor is provided in a wall of the tool string.
- 15. A valve for use in a well, comprising:
(a) a valve closure member; (b) a hydraulic control line; (c) at least one actuator; and (d) a distributor having at least one inlet and a plurality of outlets, the at least one inlet adapted for receipt of pressurized fluid from the hydraulic control line, the plurality of outlets adapted for communicating the pressurized fluid to the at least one control piston to manipulate the valve closure member.
- 16. The valve of claim 15, wherein the valve is a gas orifice lift valve.
- 17. The valve of claim 15, wherein the valve is a hydraulically actuated formation isolation valve.
- 18. The valve of claim 15, wherein the valve is a sliding sleeve valve.
- 19. The valve of claim 15, wherein the at least one actuator is at least one control piston.
- 20. The valve of claim 15, wherein the plurality of outlets are further adapted for communicating the pressurized fluid to one or more hydraulic devices.
- 21. The valve of claim 15, wherein the plurality of outlets are further adapted for communicating the pressurized fluid to a second distributor.
- 22. The valve of claim 15, wherein the distributor is provided in a wall of the valve.
- 23. The valve of claim 15, wherein the valve is part of a tool string.
- 24. The valve of claim 23, wherein the distributor is provided in a wall of the tool string.
- 25. A locking mechanism for use in a well, comprising:
(a) a lock assembly; (b) a control line adapted for supplying hydraulic pressure; (c) a control piston; and (d) a distributor responsive to hydraulic pressure having at least one inlet and a plurality of outlets, the at least one inlet adapted for communicating with the control line, the plurality of outlets adapted for communicating the hydraulic pressure to the control piston to actuate the lock assembly.
- 26. The locking mechanism of claim 25, wherein the locking mechanism is a hydraulically actuated lock pin.
- 27. The locking mechanism of claim 25, wherein the plurality of outlets are further adapted for communicating the hydraulic pressure to one or more hydraulic devices.
- 28. The locking mechanism of claim 25, wherein the plurality of outlets are further adapted for communicating the hydraulic pressure to a second distributor.
- 29. The locking mechanism of claim 25, wherein the distributor is provided in a wall of the locking mechanism.
- 30. The locking mechanism of claim 25, wherein the locking mechanism is part of a tool string.
- 31. The locking mechanism of claim 25, wherein the distributor is provided in a wall of the tool string.
- 32. A packer for use in a well, comprising:
(a) a packer assembly; (b) a control line; and (c) a pressure responsive distributor having at least one inlet and a plurality of outlets, the at least one inlet adapted for receipt of fluid pressure from the control line, the plurality of outlets adapted for communicating the fluid pressure to the packer assembly.
- 33. The packer of claim 32, wherein the plurality of outlets are further adapted for communicating the fluid pressure to one or more hydraulic devices.
- 34. The packer of claim 32, wherein the plurality of outlets are further adapted for communicating the fluid pressure to a second distributor.
- 35. The packer of claim 32, wherein the distributor is provided in a wall of the packer.
- 36. The packer of claim 32, wherein the packer is part of a tool string.
- 37. The packer of claim 36, wherein the packer is provided in a wall of the tool string.
- 38. A resettable packer for use in a well, comprising:
(a) a packer assembly; (b) a first pressure responsive distributor having at least one inlet and a plurality of outlets, the at least one inlet adapted for receipt of hydraulic pressure and the plurality of outlets adapted for communicating the hydraulic pressure to the packer assembly; and (c) a second pressure responsive distributor having at least one inlet and a plurality of outlets, the at least one inlet adapted for receipt of hydraulic pressure from the plurality of outlets of the first distributor, the plurality of outlets of the second distributor adapted for communicating the hydraulic pressure to the packer assembly.
- 39. The resettable packer of claim 38 wherein the packer assembly further comprises a control piston.
- 40. The resettable packer of claim 38, wherein the distributor is mounted in a wall of the packer.
- 41. The resettable packer of claim 39, wherein the packer is part of a tool string.
- 42. The resettable packer of claim 41, wherein the distributor is mounted in a wall of the tool string.
- 43. An emergency disconnect tool for use in a well, comprising:
(a) a disconnect assembly; (b) a control piston; and (c) a distributor having at least one inlet and a plurality of outlets, the at least one inlet adapted for receipt of hydraulic pressure, the plurality of outlets adapted for communicating the hydraulic pressure to the control piston to activate the disconnect assembly.
- 44. The emergency disconnect tool of claim 43, wherein the at least on second outlet is adapted for communication the hydraulic pressure to one or more hydraulic devices.
- 45. The emergency disconnect tool of claim 43, wherein the distributor is mounted in a wall of the emergency disconnect tool.
- 46. The emergency disconnect tool of claim 43, wherein the emergency disconnect tool is part of a tool string.
- 47. The emergency disconnect tool of claim 46, wherein the distributor is mounted in a wall of the tool string.
