Claims
- 1. A catalyst for dehydrogenating a hydrocarbon having from about two to about twenty carbon atoms per molecule, comprising:
a platinum group metal-containing component, a zinc-containing component, and a magnesium-containing component on a support comprising ZSM or a crystalline borosilicate having a ZSM-type structure.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein the support comprises borosilicate.
- 3. The composition of claim 2 wherein the borosilicate is HAMS-1B.
- 4. The composition of claim 1 which comprises from about 0.01 to about 2.0 weight percent of the platinum group metal-containing component and from about 0.01 to about 15.0 weight percent of the zinc-containing component, based on the total weight of the catalyst and calculated as the elemental metals.
- 5. The composition of claim 1 which comprises from about 0.01 to about 1.5 weight percent of the magnesium-containing component, based on the total weight of the composition and calculated as elemental magnesium.
- 6. The composition of claim 1, wherein the support comprises a refractory inorganic oxide binder.
- 7. The composition of claim 6 wherein the binder is silica.
- 8. The composition of claim 7 wherein the silica binder comprises less than about 250 parts per million of aluminum and less than about 250 parts per million of sodium, based on the total weight of the silica binder.
- 9. A process for dehydrogenating a hydrocarbon having from about two to about twenty carbon atoms per molecule to produce an olefin comprising:
contacting the hydrocarbon under catalytic dehydrogenation conditions with a catalyst comprising a platinum group metal-containing component, a zinc-containing component, and a magnesium-containing component on a support comprising ZSM or a crystalline borosilicate having a ZSM-type structure.
- 10. The process of claim 9 wherein the support comprises borosilicate.
- 11. The process of claim 10 wherein the borosilicate is HAMS-1B.
- 12. The process of claim 9 which comprises from about 0.01 to about 2.0 weight percent of the platinum group metal-containing component and from about 0.01 to about 15.0 weight percent of the zinc-containing component, based on the total weight of the catalyst and calculated as the elemental metals.
- 13. The process of claim 9 which comprises from about 0.01 to about 1.5 weight percent of the magnesium-containing component, based on the total weight of the composition and calculated as elemental magnesium.
- 14. The process of claim 9, wherein the support comprises a refractory inorganic oxide binder.
- 15. The process of claim 14 wherein the binder is silica.
- 16. The process of claim 15 wherein the silica binder comprises less than about 250 parts per million of aluminum and less than about 250 parts per million of sodium, based on the total weight of the silica binder.
