- 2. A method according to claim 1, wherein the diluted solution of fluoride ion comprises a result of diluting at least one of a water-wettable fluoride salt, a water-soluble fluoride salt and an acid-soluble fluoride salt.
- 3. A method according to claim 1, wherein the diluted solution of fluoride ion comprises a result diluting at least one of alkali metal fluorides, alkaline metal fluorides, and ammonium bifluoride.
- 4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the diluted solution of fluoride ion comprises from about 0.01% by weight to about 1.0% by weight fluoride salt, and the diluted solution of acid comprises between about 0.02% by weight to about 2.0% by weight acid.
- 5. A method according to claim 1, wherein the diluted solution of fluoride ion comprises between about 0.01% by weight to about 0.5% by weight fluoride salt, and the diluted solution of acid comprises between about 0.05% by weight to about 1.0% by weight acid.
- 6. A method according to claim 1, wherein at least one of the diluted solution of fluoride ion and the diluted solution of acid comprises a surfactant in an amount of between about 0.001% by weight to about 0.2% by weight of the solution in which it is present.
- 7. A method according to claim 1, wherein at least one of the diluted solution of fluoride ion and the diluted solution of acid comprises a quaternary ammonium compound in an amount of between about 0.001% by weight to about 0.2% by weight of the solution in which it is present.
- 8. A method according to claim 1, wherein the metal surface of the vehicle comprises a metal surface provided on a vehicle selected from at least one of a car and a truck.
- 9. A method according to claim 1, wherein the diluted solution of fluoride ion comprises a result of diluting at least one of potassium fluoride, sodium fluoride, lithium fluoride, ammonium fluoride, ammonium bifluoride, sodium silicafluoride, calcium fluoride, magnesium fluoride, alkali metal fluorides, alkali metal difluorides, alkaline metal fluorides, and alkaline metal difluorides.
- 10. A method according to claim 1, wherein the diluted solution of fluoride ion comprises a result of diluting at least one compound that forms said hydrofluoric acid when combined with said sulfuric acid, said nitric acid, or said phosphoric acid.
- 11. A method of cleaning or brightening a metal surface of a vehicle, the method comprising:(a) aspirating a solution of fluoride ion and an acid into a water stream, said acid comprising at least one of sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, sulfinic acid, nitric acid, phosphonic acid, hydrochloric acid, sulfamic acid, and mixtures thereof; (b) allowing the solution of fluoride ion and the acid to react to form a diluted solution of aqueous hydrofluoric acid; and (c) cleaning or brightening the metal surface of the vehicle by spraying the diluted solution of aqueous hydrofluoric acid on to the metal surface of the vehicle.
- 12. A method according to claim 11, wherein the solution of fluoride ion comprises a result of diluting at least one of a water-wettable fluoride salt, a water-soluble fluoride salt and an acid-soluble fluoride salt.
- 13. A method according to claim 1, wherein the solution of fluoride ion comprises at least one of alkali metal fluorides, alkaline metal fluorides, and ammonium bifluoride.
- 14. The method according to claim 11, wherein the solution of fluoride ion comprises 2 to 50% by weight fluoride salt, and the solution of acid comprises 5 to 85% by weight acid.
- 15. A method according to claim 11, wherein the solution of fluoride ion comprises 5 to 50% by weight fluoride salt, and the solution of acid comprises 10 to 85% by weight acid.
- 16. A method according to claim 11, wherein at least one of the solution of fluoride ion and the solution of acid comprises a surfactant in an amount of 0.1 to 20% by weight of the solution in which it is present.
- 17. A method according to claim 11, wherein at least one of the solution of fluoride ion and the solution of acid comprises a surfactant in an amount of 1 to 12% by weight of the solution in which it is present.
- 18. A method according to claim 11, wherein the metal surface of the vehicle comprises a metal surface provided on a vehicle selected from at least one of a car and a truck.
- 19. A method according to claim 11, wherein the solution of fluoride ion comprises at least one of potassium fluoride, sodium fluoride, lithium fluoride, ammonium fluoride, ammonium bifluoride, sodium silicafluoride, calcium fluoride, magnesium fluoride, alkali metal fluorides, alkali metal difluorides, alkaline metal fluorides, and alkaline metal difluorides.
- 20. A method according to claim 11, wherein the solution of fluoride ion comprises at least one compound that farms said hydrofluoric acid when combined with said sulfuric acid, said nitric acid, or said phosphoric acid.
