Claims
- 1. A catalyst system for the hydrogenation of CO feedstock to C.sub.2 + hydrocarbons, comprising:
- a catalyst support comprising substantially spherical particles consisting of a substantially homogeneous mixture of silica particles and silicon carbide particles wherein the silicon carbide is present in an amount of between about 10% (wt) to about 50% (wt) with respect to the total weight of the at least one substantially spherical particle wherein said spherical particles have a surface area of at least about 30 mm.sup.2 /g, an average pore diameter of at least about 150 .ANG., and a particle size of at least about 0.1 mm; and
- a catalytically active metal phase supported on said support and comprising a first metal selected from Group IVb metals, and a second metal selected from Group VIII metals.
- 2. A catalyst system according to claim 1, wherein said first metal is selected from the group consisting of zirconium, titanium, hafnium and mixtures thereof, and wherein said second metal is selected from the group consisting of cobalt, iron, nickel, ruthenium, and mixtures thereof.
- 3. A catalyst system according to claim 1, wherein said first metal is zirconium and said second metal is cobalt.
- 4. A catalyst system according to claim 1, wherein said first metal is present in an amount of between about 0.01%(wt) to about 25%(wt) with respect to said catalyst system, and wherein said second metal is present in an amount of between about 1%(wt) to about 50%(wt) with respect to said catalyst system.
- 5. A catalyst system according to claim 1, wherein said first metal is present in an amount of between about 0.01%(wt) to about 5%(wt) with respect to said catalyst system, and wherein said second metal is present in an amount of between about 6%(wt) to about 25%(wt) with respect to said catalyst system.
- 6. A catalyst system according to claim 1, wherein said first metal and said second metal are present in a weight ratio of said first metal to said second metal of between about 25:1 to about 1:8000.
- 7. A catalyst system according to claim 1, wherein said particles are a substantially homogeneous mixture of a refractory inorganic oxide and a refractory inorganic carbide.
- 8. A catalyst system according to claim 1, wherein said silicon carbide is present in said particles in an amount of between about 10%(wt) to about 35%(wt).
- 9. A catalyst system according to claim 1, wherein said silicon carbide is present in said particles in an amount of between about 15%(wt) to about 30%(wt).
- 10. A catalyst system according to claim 1, wherein said silicon carbide is present in said particles in an amount of between about 15%(wt) to about 26%(wt).
