Claims
- 1. A process for free radical polymerization of styrene to prepare high molecular weight polystyrene characterized in that the polymerization is conducted in the presence of from 5 to 5,000 ppm of a soluble organic acid having pKa from 0.5 to 2.5.degree. C. and from 50 to 2000 ppm of an organic hydroperoxide.
- 2. A process according to claim 1 wherein the organic acid is methane-sulfonic acid.
- 3. A process according to claim 1 wherein the organic acid is camphorsulfonic acid.
- 4. A process according to claim 1 wherein the polystyrene has a Mw from 100,000 to 1,000,000.
