Claims
- 1. A diaphragm for a chlor-alkali cell comprising a hydrophilic fluoropolymer and a fibrous material resistant to attack by the cell liquor, wherein the hydrophilic fluoropolymer is provided as a hydrophylic fluoropolymer containing nonterminal units represented by the structure ##STR29## where Z is ##STR30## where R is an alkyl radical of 1-12 carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl radical of 3-12 carbon atoms,
- the hydrophilic fluoropolymer having a phosphorus content of about 0.1-10% by weight, not more than about 1% by weight of the fluoropolymer dissolving in water at 20.degree. C.
- 2. The diaphragm of claim 1 wherein the fibrous material is asbestos.
- 3. The diaphragm of claim 1 additionally containing a fluoropolymer binder.
