Claims
- 1. An axle driving apparatus comprising
a housing; a center section mounted in said housing, said center section having a pump running surface, a first bearing structure and a second bearing structure, said first bearing structure having a motor running surface and a first opening formed adjacent to said motor running surface, and said second bearing structure having a second opening; a hydraulic pump mounted on said pump running surface of said center section; a hydraulic motor mounted on said motor running surface of said first structure; an input shaft having a first end and a second end, said input shaft engaged to drive said hydraulic pump; a motor shaft engaged to and driven by said hydraulic motor and having a first end and a second end; and said second end of said motor shaft extending through said second opening; wherein the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft is located between a first plane and second plane, said first and second planes being perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of said input shaft, said first plane being located at said first end of said input shaft and said second plane is located at said second end of said input shaft; and wherein the longitudinal axis of said input shaft is located between a third plane and a fourth plane, said third and fourth planes being perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the motor shaft, said third plane being located at said first end of said motor shaft, and said fourth plane being located at said second end of said motor shaft.
- 2. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 1, wherein said first end of said motor shaft extends through said first opening.
- 3. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 1 further comprising a differential gear mechanism mounted in said housing and drivingly engaged to said motor shaft.
- 4. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 3 further comprising a pair of axle shafts mounted in said housing and engaged to said differential gear mechanism.
- 5. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 1 wherein said housing is formed of at least two members joined together at a split line parallel to the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft.
- 6. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 1, wherein said first bearing structure is formed as an integral part of said center section.
- 7. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 6, wherein said second bearing structure is formed as an integral part of said center section.
- 8. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 1, wherein the longitudinal axis of said input shaft does not intersect the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft.
- 9. An axle driving apparatus comprising
a housing formed of at least two members joined together along a split line and forming a sump; a center section mounted in said housing and having a pump running surface, a first bearing structure and a second bearing structure, said first bearing structure having a motor running surface and said second bearing structure having an opening; a hydraulic pump mounted on said pump running surface; an input shaft engaged to said hydraulic pump and having a first end and a second end; a hydraulic motor mounted on said motor running surface; a motor shaft engaged to said hydraulic motor and having a first end and a second end, wherein said second end extends through said opening in said second bearing structure and the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft is parallel to said housing split line; and said first end of said motor shaft is on one side of a first plane formed by the longitudinal axis of said input shaft, said first plane being generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft, and said second end of said motor shaft is on the other side of said first plane.
- 10. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 9, wherein said first bearing structure has an opening and said first end of said motor shaft extends through said opening in said first bearing structure.
- 11. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 10, further comprising a differential gear mechanism mounted in said housing and drivingly engaged to said motor shaft.
- 12. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 11, further comprising a pair of axle shafts mounted in said housing and engaged to said differential gear mechanism.
- 13. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 10, wherein said housing split line is parallel to the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft.
- 14. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 10, wherein the longitudinal axis of said input shaft does not intersect the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft.
- 15. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 9, wherein the first end of said input shaft is on one side of a second plane formed by the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft, said second plane being generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of said input shaft, and said second end of said input shaft is on the other side of said second plane.
- 16. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 9, wherein said first and second bearing structures are integrally formed as part of said center section.
- 17. An axle driving apparatus comprising
a housing; a center section mounted in said housing and having hydraulic porting formed therein, said center section further comprising a pump running surface, a first bearing structure having a motor running surface and a second bearing structure having an opening; a hydraulic pump mounted on said pump running surface of said center section; an input shaft having a longitudinal axis; drivingly connected to said hydraulic pump; a hydraulic motor mounted on said motor running surface generally normal to said hydraulic pump and connected to said hydraulic pump through said hydraulic porting; a motor shaft engaged to and driven by said hydraulic motor, said motor shaft extending through said opening in said second bearing structure and further having a longitudinal axis located between a first plane located at one end of said input shaft and a second plane located at the other end of said input shaft, wherein said first and second planes are generally normal to the longitudinal axis of said input shaft; and wherein the longitudinal axis of said input shaft is located between a third plane located at one end of said motor shaft and a fourth plane located at the opposite end of said motor shaft, wherein said third and fourth planes are generally normal to the longitudinal axis of said output shaft.
- 18. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 17, wherein said housing forms a sump for hydraulic fluid, and said center section, hydraulic pump and hydraulic motor are mounted in said sump.
- 19. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 18 further comprising a differential gear mechanism mounted in said housing and driven by said output shaft, and a pair of axle shafts mounted in said housing and engaged to said differential gear mechanism.
- 20. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 18 wherein said housing is formed of at least two members joined together at a split line parallel to the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft.
- 21. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 17, wherein the longitudinal axis of said input shaft does not intersect the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft.
- 22. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 17, wherein said first and second openings are integrally formed in said center section.
- 23. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 9, wherein said first and second bearing structures are integrally formed as part of said center section.
- 24. An axle driving apparatus comprising
a housing formed of at least two members joined together along a split line and forming a sump; a center section mounted in said housing having a pump running surface, a first bearing structure, and a second bearing structure integrally formed with and extending from said center section, said first bearing structure having a motor running surface and a first opening adjacent to said motor running surface, said second bearing structure having a second opening; a hydraulic pump mounted on said pump running surface of said center section; an input shaft engaged to said hydraulic pump and having a first end and a second end; a hydraulic motor mounted on said motor running surface of said center section; a motor shaft engaged to said hydraulic motor and having a first end and a second end, wherein the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft is parallel to said housing split line; and said first end of said input shaft is on one side of a plane formed by the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft, said first plane being generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of said input shaft, and said second end of said input shaft is on the other side of said first plane.
- 25. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 24, wherein said first end of said motor shaft extends through said first opening.
- 26. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 25, further comprising a differential gear mechanism mounted in said housing and drivingly engaged to said motor shaft.
- 27. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 26, further comprising a pair of axle shafts mounted in said housing and engaged to said differential gear mechanism.
- 28. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 25, wherein said housing is formed of only two housing members.
- 29. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 25, wherein the longitudinal axis of said input shaft does not intersect the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft.
- 30. An axle driving apparatus comprising
a housing formed of at least two members joined together along a split line and forming a sump; a center section mounted in said housing having a pump running surface, a first bearing structure, and a second bearing structure, said first bearing structure having a motor running surface and said second bearing structure having an opening; a hydraulic pump mounted on said pump running surface; an input shaft engaged to said hydraulic pump and having a first end and a second end; a hydraulic motor mounted on said motor running surface; a motor shaft engaged to said hydraulic motor and having a first end and a second end, wherein one end of said motor shaft extends through said opening in said second bearing structure; said first end of said motor shaft is on one side of a plane formed by the longitudinal axis of said input shaft, said first plane being generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft, and said second end of said motor shaft is on the other side of said first plane; and said first end of said input shaft is on one side of a second plane formed by the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft, said second plane being generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of said input shaft, and said second end of said input shaft is on the other side of said second plane.
- 31. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 30, wherein said first end of said motor shaft extends through said first opening.
- 32. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 31, further comprising a differential gear mechanism mounted in said housing and drivingly engaged to said motor shaft.
- 33. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 32, further comprising a pair of axle shafts mounted in said housing and engaged to said differential gear mechanism.
- 34. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 31, wherein said housing split line is parallel to the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft.
- 35. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 31, wherein the longitudinal axis of said input shaft does not intersect the longitudinal axis of said motor shaft.
