Claims
- 1. A hydrostatic transmission comprising
(a) a casing; (b) a center section mounted in the casing and comprising a pump running surface and a motor running surface, where the pump running surface is perpendicular to the motor running surface; (c) a pump rotatably mounted on the center section and driven by an input shaft, the pump comprising a plurality of pistons; (d) a motor rotatably mounted on the center section and hydraulically connected to the pump; (e) a motor output shaft having a first end and a second end, the first end of the output shaft engaged to the motor, wherein the motor output shaft extends below the plane of the pump running surface.
- 2. The hydrostatic transmission of claim 1, further comprising a mounting support for the motor shaft formed in the center section, and the second end of the motor shaft extends through the mounting support.
- 3. The hydrostatic transmission of claim 1, wherein said casing consists of two casing elements joined at a split line perpendicular to the axis of said motor shaft.
- 4. The hydrostatic transmission of claim 1, wherein the center section further comprises a plurality of mounting arms for securing the center section to the casing.
- 5. The hydrostatic transmission of claim 3, further comprising a differential mounted in the casing and drivingly engaged to said motor output shaft.
- 6. A integrated hydrostatic transaxle for a vehicle having a pair of output axles comprising
(a) a casing comprised of at least a first section and a second section; (b) a center section mounted in the casing and comprising a pump running surface generally parallel to the axis of the output axles and a motor running surface formed generally perpendicular to the motor running surface; (c) a pump rotatably mounted on the pump running surface, and driven by an input shaft, the pump comprising a plurality of pistons; (d) a motor rotatably mounted on the motor running surface and hydraulically connected to the pump; (e) a motor output shaft driven by the motor and being at least partially supported by the center section, wherein the axis of the motor output shaft is below the plane of the pump running surface.
- 7. The transaxle of claim 6, wherein the first casing section and the second casing section are joined at a split line perpendicular to the axis of the output axles.
- 8. The transaxle of claim 6, further comprising a differential mounted in the casing and drivingly engaged to the motor output shaft.
- 9. A hydrostatic transmission comprising
(a) a casing; (b) a center section mounted in the casing and comprising a pump running surface and a motor running surface, where the pump running surface is perpendicular to the motor running surface; (c) a pump rotatably mounted on the pump running surface and a motor rotatably mounted on the motor running surface and hydraulically connected to the pump; (d) a motor output shaft having a first end and a second end and located below the plane of the pump running surface, wherein the first end of the motor shaft is engaged to said motor on one side of the center section and the second end is supported on an opposite side of the center section.
- 10. A hydrostatic transmission as set forth in claim 9, wherein the center section further comprises a plurality of mounting arms for securing the center section to the casing.
- 11. A hydrostatic transmission comprising
(a) a casing; (b) a center section mounted in the casing and comprising a top surface having a planar pump running surface formed therein; a bottom surface formed generally opposite to the top surface; a first side surface having a planar motor running surface formed thereon, wherein the motor running surface is generally perpendicular to the pump running surface; a second side surface formed opposite to the first side surface; and a shaft support formed on the second side surface; (c) a hydrostatic pump mounted on the pump running surface and a hydrostatic motor mounted on the motor running surface; and (d) a motor shaft having a first end engaged to the hydrostatic motor and a second end supported by the shaft support, whereby the motor shaft extends under the bottom surface of the center section.
- 12. The hydrostatic transmission of claim 11, further comprising a gear train engaged to the second end of the motor shaft.
- 13. The hydrostatic transmission of claim 11, further comprising a plurality of projections integrally formed on bottom of the center section and having check valves mounted therein.
- 14. The hydrostatic transmission of claim 12, wherein the motor shaft passes between two of the check valve projections.
