Claims
- 1. A catalyst consisting essentially of a cation exchanged SUZ-4 zeolite, said zeolite having a Si/Al ratio of 5.1-6 and having alkali metal cations selected from the group consisting of Li+, Na+, K+ and Cs+, that have been partially exchanged with cations selected from the group consisting of Cu (II), Ag (I), Fe (III) and Co (II).
- 2. The catalyst recited in claim 1 in which said alkali metal cations are K+ cations.
- 3. The catalyst as recited in claim 1 in which said alkali metal cations have been partially exchanged with Cu(II) cations.
- 4. The catalyst as recited in claim 3 in which the content of said copper cations is in the range of 29 to 42% of the exchange capacity of said zeolite.
- 5. The catalyst as recited in claim 3 in which said alkali metal cations are K+ cations.
- 6. The catalyst as recited in claim 4 in which said alkali metal cations are K+ cations.
- 7. The catalyst as recited in claim 1 in which the alkali metal cation content is in the range of 58 to 71% of the total cation content of the catalyst.
- 8. A NOx reduction catalyst for a hydrocarbon-fueled automotive engine operated at a fuel lean air-to-fuel ratio, said catalyst consisting essentially of a cation exchanged SUZ-4 zeolite, said zeolite having a Si/Al ratio of 5.1-6 and having alkali metal cations selected from the group consisting of Li+, Na+, K+ and Cs+, that have been partially exchanged with cations selected from the group consisting of Cu (II), Ag (I), Fe (III) and Co (II).
- 9. The NOx reduction catalyst as recited in claim 8 in which said alkali metal cations are K+ cations.
- 10. The NOx reduction catalyst as recited in claim 8 in which the alkali metal cation content is in the range of 58 to 71% of the total cation content of the catalyst.
- 11. The NOx reduction catalyst as recited in claim 8 in which the metal cation content consists essentially of 29 to 42% copper ions on the ion exchange capacity basis of said zeolite, and the balance one or more of said alkali metal cations.
- 12. The NOx reduction catalyst as recited in claim 10 in which said alkali metal cations are K+ cations.
- 13. The NOx reduction catalyst as recited in claim 11 in which said alkali metal cations are K+ cations.
- 14. A NOx reduction catalyst for a hydrocarbon-fueled automotive engine operated at a fuel lean air-to-fuel ratio, said catalyst consisting essentially of a cation exchanged SUZ-4 zeolite, said zeolite having a Si/Al ratio of 5.1-6 and having potassium cations that have been partially exchanged with cations selected from the group consisting of Cu (II), Ag (I), Fe (III) and Co (II).
- 15. The NOx reduction catalyst as recited in claim 14 in which the metal cation content consists essentially of 29 to 42% copper ions on the ion exchange capacity basis of said zeolite, and the balance said potassium cations.
