Claims
- 1. A composition of matter useful as a hydrotreating catalyst composition, comprising:
- (a) alumina,
- (b) zinc titanate,
- (c) at least one compound of molybdenum,
- (d) at least one compound of nickel, and
- (e) at least one compound containing phosphorus and oxygen.
- 2. A composition of matter in accordance with claim 1 comprising from about 40 to about 90 weight-% Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, from about 2.0 to about 20 weight-% zinc titanate, from about 1.0 to about 20 weight-% Mo, from about 0.5 to about 8.0 weight-% Ni, and from about 0.1 to about 10.0 weight-% P.
- 3. A composition of matter in accordance with claim 1 having a surface area in the range of from about 50 to about 400 m.sup.2 /g.
- 4. A composition of matter in accordance with claim 1 comprising from about 50 to about 80 weight-% Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, from about 5.0 to about 15 weight-% zinc titanate, from about 2.0 to about 15 weight-% Mo, from about 1.0 to about 5.0 weight-% Ni, and from about 0.3 to about 3.0 weight-% P.
- 5. A composition of matter in accordance with claim 4 having a surface area in the range of from about 100 to about 250 m.sup.2 /g.
- 6. A composition of matter in accordance with claim 1 wherein component (c) comprises at least one oxide of molybdenum, and component (d) is at least one compound selected from the group consisting of nickel oxide and, nickel phosphate.
- 7. A composition of matter in accordance with claim 1, wherein said composition of matter has been presulfided, component (c) comprises at least one sulfide of molybdenum, and component (d) comprises at least one sulfide of nickel.
- 8. A composition of matter in accordance with claim 6 having been prepared by a process comprising the steps of:
- (i) mixing alumina and zinc titanate;
- (ii) impregnating the mixture of alumina and zinc titanate obtained in step (i) with an aqueous solution containing at least one compound of Mo, at least one compound of Ni, and at least one compound containing P and O;
- (iii) drying the thus impregnated mixture obtained in step (ii); and
- (iv) calcining the dried mixture obtained in step (iii) under such conditions and at a temperature high enough to convert at least partially said at least one compound of Mo used in step (ii) to at least one oxide of Mo and said at least one compound of Ni used in step (ii) to at least one compound selected from the group consisting of oxide of Ni and phosphate of Ni.
- 9. A composition of matter in accordance with claim 8, wherein said calcining is carried out in a free oxygen containing gas at a temperature in the range of from about 350.degree. to about 750.degree. C.
- 10. A composition of matter in accordance with claim 8, wherein the aqueous solution used in step (ii) is prepared by mixing MoO.sub.3, NiCO.sub.3, H.sub.3 PO.sub.4 and water.
- 11. A process for preparing a composition of matter, useful as a hydrotreating catalyst composition, comprising
- (a) alumina,
- (b) zinc titanate,
- (c) at least one compound of molybdenum,
- (d) at least one compound of nickel, and
- (e) at least one compound containing phosphorus and oxygen, said process comprising the steps of:
- (i) mixing alumina and zinc titanate;
- (ii) impregnating the mixture of alumina and zinc titanate obtained in step (i) with an aqueous solution containing at least one compound of Mo, at least one compound of Ni, and at least one compound containing P and O;
- (iii) drying the thus impregnated mixture obtained in step (ii); and
- (iv) calcining the dried mixture obtained in step (iii) under such conditions and at a temperature high enough to at least partially convert said at least one compound of Mo used in step (ii) to at least one oxide of Mo, and said at least one compound of Ni used in step (ii) to at least one compound selected from the group consisting of oxide of Ni and phosphate of Ni.
- 12. A process in accordance with claim 11, wherein said calcining is carried out in a free oxygen containing gas at a temperature in the range of from about 350.degree. to about 750.degree. C.
- 13. A process in accordance with claim 11, wherein the aqueous solution used in step (ii) is prepared by mixing MoO.sub.3, NiCO.sub.3, H.sub.3 PO.sub.4 and water.
