Claims
- 1. A dispensing apparatus, comprising:
- a bin for storing ice, said bin comprising a plurality of sidewalls and a bottom that define an interior;
- a lift wheel;
- a removable shroud mounted to a front sidewall of said plurality of sidewalls of said bin, said removable shroud defining a recess receiving said lift wheel therein, said removable shroud including an interior chute formed integrally therewith at a bottom of said recess and supported entirely by said removable shroud without any attachment to said plurality of sidewalls so that said removable shroud and said interior chute are removable from said bin as one piece to facilitate easy access to the interior of said bin, said interior chute extending into the interior of said bin for directing ice from said bin into said recess, and said interior chute terminating short of an opposite rear sidewall of said plurality of sidewalls of said bin, and said shroud including a discharge chute formed integrally therewith at a top of said recess, said discharge chute communicating with an exterior of said bin; and
- means for rotatably driving said lift wheel to lift ice within said recess to said discharge chute.
- 2. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the bottom of said bin slopes at a downward angle towards said front sidewall of said plurality of sidewalls of said bin.
- 3. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the bottom of said bin comprises a cold plate positioned within said ice bin at a downward sloping angle towards said front sidewall of said plurality of sidewalls of said bin, said cold plate communicating with beverage source.
- 4. The apparatus according to claim 3 further comprising dispensing valves communicating with said cold plate for dispensing beverages.
- 5. The apparatus according to claim 3 wherein said interior chute of said removable shroud terminates short of an opposite rear sidewall of said plurality of sidewalls of said bin to provide a space between a terminus of said interior chute and said rear sidewall sufficient to ensure that ample quantities of ice drop by gravity past said interior chute onto said cold plate.
- 6. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said interior chute comprises a curved portion configured to deliver said ice from said bin to said recess.
- 7. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said lift wheel, comprises:
- a disk having an annular flange extending therefrom; and
- a plurality of paddles mounted to said annular flange.
- 8. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said shroud includes an opening therethrough that permits ice raised by said lift wheel to drop into a, front of said bin.
- 9. The apparatus according to claim 1 further comprising means for activating said means for rotatable driving said lift wheel.
- 10. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said front sidewall of said plurality of sidewalls of said bin includes an ice discharge opening that receives said discharge chute of said shroud therein.
- 11. The apparatus according to claim 10 further comprising an ice discharge means coupled to said ice discharge opening.
- 12. The apparatus according to claim 11 wherein said ice discharge means, comprises:
- a chute mounted to said bin, said chute communicating with said discharge chute of said shroud; and
- a tube chute pivotally mounted to said chute of said ice discharge means.
- 13. The apparatus according to claim 12 wherein said ice discharge means, further comprises:
- a door positioned within said chute of said ice discharge means;
- a solenoid for opening and closing said door;
- a switch for actuating said solenoid in response to the pivoting of said tube chute; and
- a lever for pivoting said tube chute to facilitate the activation of said switch.
- 14. The apparatus according to claim 13 wherein the activation of said switch further activates said means for rotatably driving said lift wheel.
- 15. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said means for rotatably driving said lift wheel comprises a gear motor.
- 16. The apparatus according to claim 15 wherein a seal resides around a drive shaft of said gear motor.
- 17. The apparatus according to claim 15 further comprising an agitator coupled to said gear motor.
