Claims
- 1. An identification system for a sample testing machine, said sample testing machine for testing a plurality of test sample cards carried by a cassette for said test sample cards, said cassette loaded into said sample testing machine, comprising:
- a machine-readable indicator identified with each of said test sample cards;
- a machine-readable memory storage device applied to said cassette;
- an information loading station for reading said machine-readable indicators for said plurality of said test sample cards and storing information regarding said test sample cards onto said machine-readable memory storage device; and
- an information retrieving station in said sample testing machine for retrieving information stored in said machine-readable memory storage device.
- 2. The identification system of claim 1, wherein said information loading station further comprises a memory, a human interface for transferring testing information input from a user of the system into said memory, a reader for said machine-readable indicator, and a software program responsive to said human interface for associating in said memory said testing information from said user with said machine-readable indicator applied to said sample testing card.
- 3. The identification system of claim 2, where said testing information comprises information associated with each of said test sample cards loaded into said cassette.
- 4. The identification system of claim 1, wherein said machine readable memory storage device comprises at least one touch memory button.
- 5. The identification system of claim 4, wherein said machine-readable indicator comprises a bar code applied to said test sample cards.
- 6. The identification system of claim 1, further comprising a reader for said machine-readable indicator placed in said machine for reading said machine-readable indicators as said test sample cards are moved within said machine.
- 7. The identification system of claim 6, wherein said machine-readable indicator comprises a bar code and said reader comprises a bar code reader.
- 8. The identification system of claim 1, wherein said machine-readable indicator is applied to a surface of said test sample card, and wherein the system further comprises:
- a reader for said machine-readable indicator placed in said machine; and
- a card separation device in said machine for separating said test sample cards from each other as said cassette is moved relative to said card separation device, said card separation device assisting said reader to remotely read said machine-readable indicator applied to said test sample card.
- 9. The identification system of claim 8, wherein said cassette comprises a plurality of card slots separated from each other by a wall portion and said cards have a top portion and are placed in said card slots in said cassette, and
- wherein said card separation device comprises a body positioned at approximately the elevation of said top portion of said cards, said separation device pushing said cards to a slanted position in said card slots as said card separation device is moved relative to said cards, said slanted position facilitating the remote reading of said cards by said reader.
- 10. The identification system of claim 9, wherein said cassette is moved within said machine during processing of said test sample cards by said machine, and wherein said body comprises a wheel pushing said test sample cards to said slanted position as said cassette is moved past said wheel in said machine.
- 11. The identification system of claim 10, wherein said wheel is pivotably mounted to said machine permitting said wheel to move along a first direction with respect to said test sample cards, so as to assist said test sample cards to pass below said wheel as said cassette is advanced past said wheel.
- 12. The identification system of claim 8, wherein said machine-readable indicator comprises a bar code and said reader comprises a bar code reader.
