Claims
- 1. A method for increasing the capacity of a remote terminal cabinet for providing an interface to customer premise services comprising:
- identifying, in said remote terminal cabinet, a space previously designated and lacking protection block equipment,
- installing in said space customer premise service interface equipment, including securing said equipment physically in place and connecting said equipment for communication with a distribution service on a first communications interface and a plurality of customer premise services at a second communications interface, and
- leaving any other preexisting remote cabinet communications unaffected.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said securing said equipment further comprises:
- pivotably mounting said customer premise interface equipment for pivotable movement to and from a secured position in said space, and
- securing said equipment in said space when said equipment is pivoted into said space from a mounting position outside said space.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein the distribution service is a T1 service.
- 4. The method of claim 2 wherein the customer premise service is ISDN BRI.
- 5. The method of claim 2 wherein the customer premise service is video conferencing.
- 6. The method of claim 2 wherein the customer premise service is a wideband data service.
- 7. The method of claim 2 wherein the customer premise service is a lottery service.
- 8. The method of claim 1 further comprising removing a protective covering from said space prior to said installing step.
- 9. Apparatus for providing an interface to customer premise service lines in a remote cabinet comprising:
- an interconnection equipment having
- an interface to at least one distribution service line,
- an interface to customer premise service lines, and
- circuitry for interconnecting between said distribution service line and said customer premise service lines;
- a pivot mount for connecting said equipment for pivoting movement from a service position in which said equipment is available for servicing or installation in said remote cabinet to an operating position in which said equipment fits within a previously blank volume within a full capacity remote terminal; and
- a chassis for mounting said equipment, said chassis having said pivot mount and further having at least two corners of each side thereof foreshortened to allow said chassis, with said equipment, to pivot into said operating position.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the distribution service is a service from the group consisting of T1 service on copper wires, and T1 service on optical fibers.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the customer premise services includes a service from the group consisting of ISDN BRI, video conferencing, wideband data, and a lottery.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein said pivot mount has a solid substantially rectangular shape for pivoting into a protection block space for a 307 protection block assembly.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 9 further comprising interface connectors for electrically interconnecting said distribution service line to said distribution service interface and for connecting said customer premise service interfaces to said customer premise service lines.
