Claims
- 1. An ignition coil device for an internal combustion engine, comprising:
- a molded resin casing enclosing therewithin an accommodating chamber;
- a primary winding wound on a primary winding bobbin having a first and a second bobbin attachment portion formed on a side thereof;
- a secondary winding wound on a secondary winding bobbin surrounding said primary winding, said secondary winding bobbin having a first and a second bobbin attachment portion formed on a side thereof, wherein said second bobbin attachment portion on the primary winding bobbin is engaged with said second bobbin attachment portion on the secondary winding bobbin;
- a connector for exterior electrical connection, electrically coupled to said primary winding and said secondary winding, said connector having a connector attachment portion engaged with said first bobbin attachment portion on the primary winding bobbin; and
- a high voltage tower electrically coupled to said secondary winding, said high voltage tower having a high voltage tower attachment portion engaged with said first bobbin attachment portion on the secondary winding bobbin,
- wherein said second bobbin attachment of said primary winding bobbin comprises first and second L-shaped portions integrally formed and confronting each other and protruding from said side of said primary winding bobbin to define a recess between said first and second L-shaped portions, the recess accommodating said second bobbin attachment portion of said secondary winding bobbin in a closely fitting mating relationship.
- 2. An ignition coil device for an internal combustion engine as claimed in claim 1, further comprising an iron core carrying said primary winding bobbin on a leg thereof.
- 3. The ignition coil device as claimed in claim 1 assembled by a method comprising the steps of:
- preparing said molded resin casing, said primary winding wound on said primary winding bobbin, said secondary winding wound on said secondary winding bobbin, said high voltage tower, and said connector;
- engaging said high voltage tower attachment portion of the high voltage tower with said bobbin attachment portion on the secondary winding bobbin to form a first integral sub-unit of the high voltage tower and the secondary winding bobbin carrying the secondary winding;
- engaging said connector attachment portion of the connector with said bobbin attachment portion on the primary winding bobbin to form a second integral sub-unit of the high voltage tower and the secondary winding bobbin carrying the primary winding;
- engaging said second bobbin attachment portion of the primary winding bobbin with said second bobbin attachment portion of the secondary winding bobbin to form an integral assembly of said first and second sub-units;
- making electrical connections between said primary winding, said secondary winding, said high voltage tower, and said connector; and
- accommodating said integral assembly into said accommodating chamber of the molded resin casing.
- 4. An ignition coil according to claim 3, further comprising wirings connected to said connector, wherein a first wiring connection portion is formed at a position where said connector and said wirings therefor are connected together, a second wiring connection is formed at a position where said secondary winding and said high voltage tower are connected together, a third wiring connection portion is formed at a position where said wirings connected to said connector are connected to said secondary winding and a fourth wiring connection portion is formed at a position where said wirings connected to said connector are connected to said primary winding.
- 5. An ignition coil according to claim 1, further comprising wirings connected to said connector, wherein a first wiring connection portion is formed at a position where said connector and said wirings therefor are connected together, a second wiring connection portion is formed at a position where said secondary winding and said high voltage tower are connected together, a third wiring connection portion is formed at a position where said wirings connected to said connector are connected to said secondary winding and a fourth wiring connection portion is formed at a position where said wirings connected to said connector are connected to said primary winding.
- 6. An ignition coil according to claim 5, wherein electrical connections at said first wiring connection portion, said second wiring connection portion, said third wiring connection portion, and said fourth wiring connection portion include solder.
- 7. An ignition coil according to claim 1, further comprising a power transistor unit accommodated within said molded resin casing.
- 8. An ignition coil according to claim 1, further comprising wirings connected to said connector, wherein a first wiring connection portion is formed at a position where said connector and said wirings therefor are connected together, a second wiring connection is formed at a position where said secondary winding and said high voltage tower are connected together, a third wiring connection portion is formed at a position where said wirings connected to said connector are connected to said secondary winding and a fourth wiring connection portion is formed at a position where said wirings connected to said connector are connected to said primary winding; and
- a power transistor unit disposed outwardly of said molded resin casing.
