Claims
- 1. In an ignition system for an internal combustion engine having means for inducing a charging alternating current for an energy storing element as a function of the position of rotation of the engine, a discharging switch for discharging the energy storing element to trigger an ignition, means for operating the ignition switch synchronously with the alternating current, and a timer means responsive to the alternating current for controlling the ignition switch, the improvement wherein
- the timer means comprises means for generating an actuating blocking signal that is initiated with each alternating voltage cycle, for application to the ignition switch for a duration of time which exceeds the time interval between the occurrence of two consecutive alternating voltage cycles corresponding to an upper limit of the rpm of the engine.
- 2. An ignition system according to claim 1 wherein said timer means comprises a preselecting counter connected to be restored to its initial state by the alternating voltage.
- 3. An ignition system according to claim 1, comprising a matching module means connected so that for each engine revolution, at least one alternating voltage half-wave is selectively fed to the timer means to reset it after rectification.
- 4. An ignition system according to claim 3, comprising at least one time-delay circuit associated with one half-wave and connected to effect a time delay corresponding to the minimum actuation time of the ignition switch.
- 5. An ignition system according to claim 4 comprising means for feeding, for each engine revolution (T), at least one half-wave to the timer means additionally with a logical AND gate to its blocking signal output.
- 6. An ignition system according to claim 3 having more than two induced half-waves per engine revolution, comprising a memory element for a signal fed to the timer means for resetting such that it is charged by one half-wave and erased by another preceding half-wave.
- 7. An ignition system according to claim 5 wherein the matching module means is combined structurally with the timer means in an intergrated circuit, including the delay circuits of the AND gate.
- 8. An ignition system according to claim 3, comprising means for feeding alternating voltage half-waves (I', II', III') to the matching module means (212), which are picked up both from the one pole (217) and from the opposite pole (216) of an induction coil (L1).
- 9. An ignition system according to claim 3, comprising means for feeding alternating voltage half-waves (II'), which are negative with respect to the reference potential, to the matching module means (212) through a pnp transistor in a common-emitter circuit (211, T21).
- 10. An ignition system according to claim 1, comprising a power supply for the timer means, said power supply comprising an additional energy storage element connected to be charged by the induced alternating voltage.
- 11. An ignition system according to claim 1, comprising a blocking switch (T22) which is connected, upon actuation by the blocking signal (Out), to short-circuit to ground the actuating input (10) of the ignition switch (Thy).
- 12. An ignition system according to claim 1, comprising a delay module means connected to precede an input of the timer means for providing a delay time corresponding to a retardation of the moment of ignition when the engine is operated just below the top limit of its rotary speed.
- 13. An ignition system according to claim 1, comprising a pulse or cycle generator means (215) connected to provide a time reference for the timer means (214), said generator having a cycle or pulse output (f.sub.z) tied in a logical AND configuration (UND2) to the blocking signal (Out, Out2) and fed to a counting system (Z1, CNT) of the timer means (214).
- 14. An ignition system according to claim 13, comprising means for tying the cycle only to the delay signal in an AND configuration.
- 15. An ignition system according to claim 1, wherein the timer means comprises a programmable counter.
- 16. An ignition system according to claim 1, wherein the timer means comprises a software routine of a microcomputer connected to sense the alternating voltage.
- 17. An ignition system according to claim 6, wherein said memory is a flip-flop.
- 18. An ignition system according to claim 12, wherein the delay module means is an RC Low Pass filter.
- 19. An ignition system in accordance with claim 1 wherein the timer means is responsive to the alternating voltage for generating a delay signal for delaying the actuation of the ignition switch for the duration of a second time interval which corresponds to the lower limit of the rpm of the engine.
- 20. The ignition system of claim 19 wherein said lower limit of the rpm of the engine is the idling speed of the engine.
- 21. An ignition system according to claim 19, comprising a delay circuit means (217) connected to be activated by the delay signal, through which the induced alternating voltage (I'-III') is fed to the actuating input (10) of the ignition switch (Thy) to trigger it.
- 22. An ignition system according to claim 1 wherein said timer means comprises a time delay switch.
- 23. An ignition system according to claim 1 wherein said timer means comprises a monostable multivibrator.
- 24. An ignition system according to claim 1, comprising a matching module means connected so that for each engine revolution, at least one alternating voltage half-wave is selectively fed to the timer means to reset it after inversion.
- 25. An ignition system according to claim 3 having more than two induced half-waves per engine revolution, comprising a memory element for a signal fed to the timer means for resetting such that it is charged by one half-wave and erased by another following half-wave.
- 26. An ignition system according to claim 5 wherein the matching module means is combined structurally with the timer means in an integrated circuit, including the memory element.
- 27. An ignition system according to claim 13, comprising means for tying the pulse output only to the delay signal in an AND configuration.
- 28. An ignition system according to claim 3, comprising a power supply for the matching module means, said power supply comprising an additional energy storage element connected to be charged by the induced alternating voltage.
