- 18. The safety trunk release unit of claim 1, wherein said handle is illuminated via at least one illumination source.
- 19. The safety trunk release unit of claim 18, wherein said handle is directly illuminated.
- 20. The safety trunk release unit of claim 19, wherein said illumination source comprises a glowing phosphorous material of said handle.
- 21. The safety trunk release unit of claim 19, wherein said illumination source is positioned within said handle.
- 22. The safety trunk release unit of claim 19, wherein said illumination source comprises at least one light emitting diode.
- 23. The safety trunk release unit of claim 22, wherein said at least one light emitting diode is operable to draw less than approximately 45 milliamps when activated.
- 24. The safety trunk release unit of claim 22, wherein said at least one light emitting diode is operable to draw less than approximately 30 milliamps when activated.
- 25. The safety trunk release unit of claim 22, wherein said at least one light emitting diode comprises at least one of a green light emitting diode and a yellow light emitting diode.
- 26. A safety trunk release unit for use in opening a deck lid of a vehicle, said release unit being positionable within a compartment substantially enclosed by the deck lid, the compartment having a release mechanism for opening the deck lid, said release unit being adapted for operation from the interior of the compartment when the deck lid is closed and comprising:a housing attachable to an interior surface of the compartment; and a handle positioned at said housing, said handle being connectable to the release mechanism of the deck lid and operable to actuate the release mechanism, said handle being illuminated via at least one of a glowing phosphorous material and an electrically powered light emitting source, said handle providing a mechanical advantage such that the release mechanism may be actuated upon exertion of less than or equal to approximately 20 Newtons at said handle.
