Claims
- 1. A projector, comprising:
- an illuminating optical system;
- image forming means for forming an image bearing light by modulating the light coming from said illuminating optical system; and
- projection means for projecting said image bearing light;
- wherein said illuminating optical system includes:
- a light source;
- an elliptical reflector so positioned that said light source is placed on a first focal point, farther from said image forming means, of two focal points; and
- a circular reflector of a radius equal to the distance between said two focal points;
- wherein said circular reflector is positioned in opposed relation to said elliptical reflector in such that the center of said circular reflector coincides with the second one of said two focal points, and said circular reflector has an aperture at the central part thereof.
- 2. A projector according to claim 1, wherein said image forming means includes three liquid crystal devices for forming images corresponding to three primary colors, a color separating optical system for separating the light from said illuminating optical system into said three primary colors and introducing the same respectively into corresponding liquid crystal devices, and a color synthesizing optical system for synthesizing image bearing lights of different colors emerging from said liquid crystal devices.
- 3. A projector comprising:
- an illuminating optical system;
- image forming means for forming an image bearing light by modulating the light coming from said illuminating optical systems; and
- projection means for projecting said image bearing light:
- wherein said illuminating optical system includes:
- a light source;
- a reflector for reflecting the light from said light source toward said image forming means; and
- reflection means having an aperture of a cross section different from that of the light beam from said reflector, said reflection means being adapted to reflect a portion of the light coming from said reflector but not falling within said aperture inversely to the incident optical path, wherein said reflection means is composed of a flat mirror positioned perpendicularly to the optical axis of the light beam coming from said reflector, and said aperture has a shape substantially equal to that of an area to be illuminating of said image forming means.
- 4. A projector comprising:
- an illuminating optical system;
- image forming means for forming an image bearing light by modulating the light coming from said illuminating optical systems; and
- projection means for projecting said image bearing light;
- wherein said illuminating optical system includes:
- a light source;
- a reflector for reflecting the light from said light source toward said image forming means; and
- reflection means having an aperture of a cross section different from that of the light beam from said reflector, said reflection means being adapted to reflect a portion of the light coming from said reflector but not falling within said aperture inversely to the incident optical path, wherein said reflecting means is composed of plural flat mirrors, and said aperture is formed by the combination of said plural flat mirrors.
- 5. A projector comprising:
- an illuminating optical system;
- image forming means for forming an image bearing light by modulating the light from said illuminating optical system; and
- projection means for projecting said image bearing light;
- wherein said illuminating optical system includes:
- a light source;
- an elliptical reflector so positioned that said light source is placed at a focal point thereof and adapted to reflect the light from said light source toward said image forming means;
- an optical element for converting the light beam, from said elliptical reflector, into a substantially parallel light beam; and
- a flat mirror having an aperture of a cross section different from that of the light beam coming by way of said optical element, said mirror being positioned substantially perpendicularly to the optical axis of the light beam from said optical element.
- 6. An image forming apparatus comprising:
- an image forming means for forming an image by modulating incident light; and
- an illumination optical system for illuminating said image forming means with light coming from a light source in way of a first reflecting mirror disposed at the back of said light source;
- wherein said illumination optical system comprises:
- a second reflecting mirror for reflecting marginal ray directing outside portion of the light incident surface of said image formation means to return the marginal ray to said light source whereby said marginal ray is made to be incident on said image formation means wherein said first reflecting mirror includes an elliptical mirror.
- 7. An image forming apparatus comprising:
- an image forming means for forming an image by modulating incident light; and
- an illumination optical system for illuminating said image forming means with light coming from a light source in way of a first reflecting mirror disposed at the back of said light source;
- wherein said illumination optical system comprises:
- a second reflecting mirror for reflecting marginal ray directing outside portion of the light incident surface of said image formation means to return the marginal ray to said light source whereby said marginal ray is made to be incident on said image formation means wherein said second reflecting mirror is constituted by a flat mirror.
- 8. An image forming apparatus comprising:
- an image forming means for forming an image by modulating incident light; and
- an illumination optical system for illuminating said image forming means with light coming from a light source in way of a first reflecting mirror disposed at the back of said light source;
- wherein said illumination optical system comprises:
- a second reflecting mirror for reflecting marginal ray directing outside portion of the light incident surface of said image formation means to return the marginal ray to said light source whereby said marginal ray is made to be incident on said image formation means wherein said illumination optical system includes an elliptical mirror constituting said first reflecting mirror and a lens for changing the light reflected by said elliptical mirror to a parallel light beam and
- said second reflecting mirror comprises a spherical mirror having a center of its curvature at said light source.
- 9. An image forming apparatus comprising:
- an image forming means for forming an image by modulating incident light; and
- an illumination optical system for illuminating said image forming means with light coming from a light source in way of a first reflecting mirror disposed at the back of said light source;
- wherein said illumination optical system comprises:
- a second reflecting mirror for reflecting marginal ray directing outside portion of the light incident surface of said image formation means to return the marginal ray to said light source whereby said marginal ray is made to be incident on said image formation means wherein said illumination optical system includes an elliptical mirror constituting said first reflecting mirror and a lens for changing the light reflected by said elliptical mirror to a parallel light beam and
- said second reflecting mirror comprises a plane mirror provided with a reflecting surface normal to an optical axis of said illumination optical system which is disposed in an optical path of said parallel light beam.
- 10. An image forming apparatus comprising:
- an image forming means for forming an image by modulating incident light; and
- an illumination optical system for illuminating said image forming means with light coming from a light source in way of a first reflecting mirror disposed at the back of said light source;
- wherein said illumination optical system comprises:
- a second reflecting mirror for reflecting marginal ray directing outside portion of the light incident surface of said image formation means to return the marginal ray to said light source whereby said marginal ray is made to be incident on said image formation means wherein said first reflecting mirror comprises a parabolic mirror for changing the light coming from said light source to parallel light beam and
- said second reflection mirror comprises a plane mirror provided with a reflecting surface normal to an optical axis of said illumination optical system.
- 11. An image forming apparatus comprising:
- an image forming means for forming an image by modulating incident light; and
- an illumination optical system for illuminating said image forming means with light coming from a light source in way of a first reflecting mirror disposed at the back of said light source, wherein said first reflecting mirror comprises a parabolic mirror for changing the light coming from said light source to a parallel light beam;
- wherein said illumination optical system comprises:
- a second reflecting mirror for reflecting a marginal ray which is incident on said image forming means by directing an outside portion of a light incident surface of said image forming means to return the marginal ray to said light source, wherein said second reflecting mirror is adapted to reflect the light which is emitted from said light source and proceeds directly to said image forming means without being reflected by said first reflecting mirror, toward said light source, wherein said second reflecting mirror is disposed on an optical axis of said illumination optical system and is smaller than an aperture of said first reflecting mirror, and wherein a peripheral shape of said second reflecting mirror causes said illumination optical system to form an illuminating area having the same configuration as said image forming means, and wherein said second reflecting mirror comprises a spherical mirror having a center of its curvature.
- 12. A projector comprising:
- an illuminating optical system for illuminating an image; and
- a projecting optical system for projecting the illuminated image onto a plane;
- wherein said illuminating optical system includes
- an ellipsoidal mirror having a first focusing point and a second focusing point;
- a light source disposed near said first focusing point; and
- a spherical mirror in which an opening is formed;
- in which a center of curvature of said spherical mirror is substantially consistent with said first focusing point and said opening of said spherical mirror is disposed near said second focusing point.
- 13. A projector comprising:
- an illuminating optical system for illuminating an image; and
- a projecting optical system for projecting the illuminated image onto a plane;
- wherein said illuminating optical system includes
- a light source disposed at a first position;
- a concave mirror for reflecting light from said light source thereby to converge the reflected light onto a second position being different from said first position;
- a spherical mirror in which an opening is formed;
- in which a center of curvature of said spherical mirror is substantially consistent with said first position and said opening of said spherical mirror is disposed near said second position.
- 14. A projector comprising:
- an illuminating optical system for illuminating an image; and
- a projecting optical system for projecting the illuminated image onto a plane;
- wherein said illuminating optical system includes
- an ellipsoidal mirror having a first focusing point and a second focusing point;
- a light source disposed near said first focusing point; and
- a spherical mirror in which an opening is formed;
- in which a radius of said spherical mirror is substantially as same as a distance between said first focusing point and said second focusing point and
- a center of curvature of said spherical mirror is substantially consistent with said first focusing point and said opening of said spherical mirror is disposed near said second focusing point.
