Claims
- 1. In apparatus for displaying images of a succession of recordings from a carrier, the improvement comprising in combination:
- means coupled to said carrier for substantially continuously moving the carrier;
- electrically powered optical compensator means including a repeatedly advanceable and resettable driven compensator part for compensating for the continuous carrier movement, said driven compensator part being constructed and mounted for advance in accordance with substantially the following equation of motion: ##EQU12## where F(t) = force for advancing the driven compensator part;
- J = mass-moment of inertia of the driven compensator part;
- b = damping coefficient of the driven compensator part;
- dx/dt = velocity of the driven compensator part;
- d.sup.2 x/d.sup. 2 = acceleration of the driven compensator part;
- means operatively associated with said carrier and said optical compensator means for displaying said images by way of said driven compensator part;
- means for sensing relative movements of each displayed image;
- means connected between said sensing means and said compensator means for controlling the application of electric power to said electrically powered compensator means in response to sensed image movements, whereby to render the display of each image substantially stationary;
- means for providing for each reset of said driven compensator part electric resetting power comprising an electric power pulse doublet; and
- means connected between said resetting power-providing means and said compensator means for applying said electric resetting power comprising said electric power pulse doublet to said compensator means, whereby to reset said driven compensator part preparatory to the display of a succeeding image;
- said resetting power-providing means including adjustable means for providing said power pulse doublet with a net energy sufficient to initiate an advance of said driven compensator part after completion of a resetting operation.
- 2. In apparatus for displaying images of a succession of recordings from a carrier, the improvement comprising in combination:
- means coupled to said carrier for substantially continuously moving the carrier;
- electrically powered optical compensator means including a repeatedly advanceable and resettable driven compensator part for compensating for the continuous carrier movement, said driven compensator part being constructed and mounted for advance in accordance with substantially the following equation of motion: ##EQU13## where F(t) = force for advancing the driven compensator part;
- J = mass-moment of inertia of the driven compensator part;
- b = damping coefficient of the driven compensator part;
- dx/dt = velocity of the driven compensator part;
- d.sup.2 x/dt.sup.2 = acceleration of the driven compensator part;
- means operatively associated with said carrier and said optical compensator means for displaying said images by way of said driven compensator part;
- means for sensing relative movements of each displayed image;
- means connected between said sensing means and said compensator means for controlling the application of electric power to said electrically powered compensator means in response to sensed image movement, whereby to render the display of each image substantially stationary, said means for controlling said application of electric power including means for applying to said driven compensator part a substantially constant driving torque in response and proportional to said damping coefficient b, means for providing a variable electric bias, and means for adjustably biasing during image display said driven compensator part in a direction opposed to the advance direction in response to said electric bias;
- means for providing for each reset of said driven compensator part electric resetting power comprising an electric power pulse doublet; and
- means connected between said resetting power-providing means and said compensator means for applying said electric resetting power comprising said electric power pulse doublet to said compensator means, whereby to reset said driven compensator part preparatory to the display of a succeeding image.
- 3. Apparatus as claimed in claim 2, wherein:
- said image movement sensing means include means for sensing relative movements of each displayed image in a first direction corresponding to the direction of movement of the carrier, and means for sensing relative movements of each displayed image in a second direction extending opposite to said first direction; and
- said means for controlling said application of electric power include means for applying to said compensator electric drive power in response to sensed image movements in said first direction, and means for diminishing said torque in response to sensed image movements in said second direction.
- 4. In apparatus for displaying images of a succession of recordings from a carrier, the improvement comprising in combination:
- means coupled to said carrier for substantially continuously moving the carrier;
- electrically powered optical compensator means having an angularly advanceable and resettable driven part including a compensator mirror for compensating for the continuous carrier movement, said driven part including the compensator mirror being constructed and mounted for advance in accordance with substantially the following equation of motion: ##EQU14## wherein T(t) = torque for angularly advancing the driven part;
- J = mass-moment of inertia of the driven part;
- b = damping coefficient of the driven part;
- d.theta./dt = angular velocity of the driven part;
- d.sup.2 .theta./dt.sup.2 = angular acceleration of the driven part;
- means operatively associated with said carrier and said optical compensator means for displaying said images by way of said compensator mirror;
- means for sensing relative movements of each displayed image;
- means connected between said sensing means and said compensator means for controlling the application of electric power to said electrically powered compensator means in response to sensed image movements, whereby to render the display of each image by way of said compensator mirror substantially stationary;
- means for providing for each reset of said driven compensator part electric resetting power comprising an electric power pulse doublet; and
- means connected between said resetting power-providing means and said compensator means for applying said electric resetting power comprising said electric power pulse doublet to said compensator means, whereby to reset said driven compensator part including said compensator mirror preparatory to the display of a succeeding image;
- said resetting power-providing means including adjustable means for providing said power pulse doublet with a net energy sufficient to initiate an advance of said driven compensator part after completion of a resetting operation.
- 5. In apparatus for displaying images of a succession of recordings from a carrier, the improvement comprising in combination:
- means coupled to said carrier for substantially continuously moving the carrier;
- electrically powered optical compensator means having an angularly advanceable and resettable driven part including a compensator mirror for compensating for the continuous carrier movement, said driven part including the compensator mirror being constructed and mounted for advance in accordance with substantially the following equation of motion: ##EQU15## wherein T(t) = torque for angularly advancing the driven part;
- J = mass-moment of inertia of the driven part;
- b = damping coefficient of the driven part;
- d.theta./dt = angular velocity of the driven part;
- d.sup.2 .theta./dt.sup. 2 = angular acceleration of the driven part;
- means operatively associated with said carrier and said optical compensator means for displaying said images by way of said compensator mirror;
- means for sensing relative movements of each displayed image;
- means connected between said sensing means and said compensator means for controlling the application of electrical power to said electrically powered compensator means in response to sensed image movements, whereby to render the display of each image by way of said compensator mirror substantially stationary, said means for controlling said application of electric power including means for applying to said driven part a substantially constant driving torque in response and proportional to said damping coefficient b, means for providing variable electric bias, and means for adjustably biasing during image display said driven compensator part in a direction opposed to the advance direction in response to said electric bias;
- means for providing for each reset of said driven compensator part electric resetting power comprising an electric power pulse doublet; and
- means connected between said resetting power-providing means and said compensator means for applying said electric resetting power comprising said electric power pulse doublet to said compensator means, wherebyto reset said driven compensator part including said compensator mirror preparatory to the display of a succeeding image.
- 6. Apparatus as claimed in claim 5, wherein:
- said image movement sensing means include means for sensing relative movements of each displayed image in a first direction corresponding to the direction of movement of the carrier, and means for sensing relative movements of each displayed image in a second direction extending opposite to said first direction; and
- said means for controlling said application of electric power include means for applying to said compensator electric drive power in response to sensed image movements in said first direction, and means for diminishing said torque in response to sensed image movements in said second direction.
- 7. In apparatus for displaying images of a succession of recordings from a carrier, the improvement comprising in combination:
- means coupled to said carrier for substantially continuously moving the carrier;
- repeatedly advanceable and resettable electrically powered compensator means for optically compensating the continuous carrier movement;
- means operatively associated with said carrier and said compensator means for displaying said images by way of said compensator means;
- means for producing an electric bias for said compensator means;
- means connected between said bias-producing means and said compensator means for providing during image display by means of said electric bias a biasing force at said compensator means in a direction opposed to the direction of compensator advance during image display;
- means for sensing relative movement of each displayed image;
- means connected between said sensing means and said compensator means for controlling the application of electric power to said electrically powered compensator means in response to sensed image movements, whereby to render the display of each image substantially stationary;
- means for providing for each compensator reset electric resetting power comprising an electric pulse doublet; and
- means connected between said resetting power-providing means and said compensator means for applying said electric resetting power comprising said electric power pulse doublet to said compensator means, whereby to reset said compensator means preparatory to the display of a succeeding image.
- 8. Apparatus as claimed in claim 7, wherein:
- said resetting power-providing means include adjustable means for providing said power pulse doublet with a net energy sufficient to initiate an advance of said compensator means after completion of a resetting operation.
- 9. An apparatus as claimed in claim 7, wherein:
- said means for sensing relative image movements include means for sensing relative movement of each displayed image in a first direction corresponding to the direction of movement of the carrier, and in a second direction extending opposite to said first direction; and
- said means for controlling the application of electric power to said electrically powered compensator means include means for providing and applying electric driving power to said compensator means in response to sensed image movements in said first direction, and means for reducing said driving power in response to sensed image movements in said second direction.
- 10. In apparatus for displaying images of a succession of recordings from a carrier, the improvement comprising the combination of:
- means coupled to said carrier for substantially continuously moving the carrier;
- electrically energizable optical compensator means constructed to be movable by electric driving power through a range of motion for optically compensating the continuous carrier movement, and to be resettable through said range of motion;
- means operatively associated with said carrier and with said compensator means for displaying said images by way of said compensator means;
- means for sensing relative movements of each displayed image in a first direction corresponding to the direction of movement of the carrier, and in a second direction extending opposite to the first direction;
- means connected to said sensing means for providing said electric driving power moving said compensator means through said range of motion in response to sensed image movements in said first direction;
- means connected to said sensing means for providing decelerating power in response to sensed image movements in said second direction;
- means connected between said driving power means and decelerating power means and said electrically energizable optical compensator means for applying said driving power and said decelerating power to said compensator means for moving said compensator means through said range of motion and rendering the display of each image substantially stationary; and
- means connected to said optical compensator means for resetting the compensator means through said range of motion upon completion of the display of substantially each image and preparatory to the display of the next image.
- 11. An apparatus as claimed in claim 10, wherein:
- said driving power means and said decelerating power means jointly comprise feedback amplifier means connected between said sensing means and said compensator means for providing electric currents having a predetermined sense of current flow in response to sensed image movements in said first direction, and alternatively having an opposite sense of current flow in response to sensed image movements in said second direction.
- 12. An apparatus as claimed in claim 10, wherein:
- said resetting means include means for providing for each reset of said compensator means electric resetting power comprising an electric power pulse doublet, and means connected between said resetting power-providing means and said compensator means for applying said electric resetting power comprising said electric power pulse doublet to said compensator means, whereby to reset said compensator means preparatory to the display of a succeeding image.
- 13. Apparatus as claimed in claim 12, wherein:
- said compensator means have a driven compensator part which is moved and reset through said range of motion;
- said driven compensator part is constructed and mounted for advance movement in accordance with substantially the following equation of motion: ##EQU16## where F(t ) = force for advancing the driven compensator part;
- J = mass-moment of inertia of the driven compensator part;
- b = damping coefficient of the driven compensator part;
- dx/dt = velocity of the driven compensator part;
- d.sup.2 x/dt.sup.2 = acceleration of the driven compensator part.
- 14. Apparatus as claimed in claim 13, wherein:
- said driving-power providing means include means for providing an electric driving current generating at said driven compensator part a substantially constant torque proportional to said damping coefficient b; and
- said power-applying means include means for applying said electric driving current to said compensator means, whereby to advance said driven compensator part.
- 15. Apparatus as claimed in claim 14, including:
- means for providing a variable electric bias; and
- means connected to said optical compensator means for biasing during image display said optical compensator means with said electric bias in a direction opposed to the direction of advance movement.
- 16. In apparatus for displaying images of a succession or recordings from a carrier, the improvement comprising the combination of:
- means coupled to said carrier for substantially continuously moving the carrier;
- electrically energizable optical compensator means including an angularly movable compensator mirror movable by electric driving power through a range of angular motion for optically compensating the continuous carrier movement, and resettable through said range of motion;
- means operatively associated with said carrier and with said compensator means for displaying said images by way of said compensator mirror;
- means for sensing relative movements of each displayed image in a first direction corresponding to the direction of movement of the carrier, and in a second direction extending opposite to the first direction;
- means connected to said sensing means for providing said electric driving power moving said compensator mirror through said range of angular motion in response to sensed image movements in said first direction;
- means connected to said sensing means for providing decelerating power in response to sensed image movements in said second direction;
- means connected between said driving power means and decelerating power means and said electrically energizable optical compensator means for applying said driving power and said decelerating power to said compensator means for moving said compensator mirror through said range of angular motion and rendering the display of each image substantially stationary; and
- means connected to said optical compensator means for resetting said compensator mirror through said range of angular motion upon completion of the display of substantially each image and preparatory to the display of the next image.
- 17. An apparatus as claimed in claim 16, wherein:
- said resetting means include means for providing for each compensator reset electric resetting power comprising an electric power pulse doublet, and means connected between said resetting power-providing means to said compensator means for applying said electric resetting power comprising said electric power pulse doublet to said compensator means, whereby to reset said compensator mirror preparatory to the display of a succeeding image.
- 18. An apparatus as claimed in claim 17, wherein:
- said optical compensator has an angularly movable driven part, including said compensator mirror, which is constructed and mounted for advance movement in accordance with substantially the following equation of motion: ##EQU17## where T(t) = torque for angularly advancing the driven part;
- J = mass-moment of inertia of the driven part;
- b = damping coefficient of the driven part;
- d.theta./dt = angular velocity of the driven part;
- d.sup.2 .theta./dt.sup.2 = angular acceleration of the driven part.
- 19. Apparatus as claimed in claim 18, including:
- means for providing a variable electric bias; and
- means connected to said optical compensator means for biasing during image display said compensator mirror with said electric bias in a direction opposed to the direction of advance movement during image display.
