Claims
- 1. An image forming apparatus comprising:
- recording means having a recording section for recording an image on a recording medium; and
- supporting means for supporting said recording means, wherein said supporting means allows said recording means to oscillate with respect to a reference surface associated with a recording surface of the recording medium during recording of an image thereon so that said supporting means can maintain said recording section of said recording means at a predetermined location with respect to the reference surface,
- wherein said supporting means includes a roller member movable with said recording means and a groove engaging said roller member for forming a pivot for the oscillation of said recording means with respect to the reference surface,
- wherein said groove includes a portion having a width larger than a diameter of said roller member and a portion having a width as large as the diameter of said roller member, and wherein said larger width portion allows the oscillation.
- 2. An image forming apparatus comprising:
- recording means having a recording section for recording an image on a recording medium; and
- supporting means for supporting said recording means, wherein said supporting means allows said recording means to oscillate with respect to a reference surface associated with a recording surface of the recording medium during recording of an image thereon so that said supporting means can maintain said recording section of said recording means at a predetermined location with respect to the reference surface,
- wherein said supporting means includes rollers which rotate in different directions respectively to smoothly oscillate said recording means.
- 3. An image forming apparatus comprising:
- an ink jet recording device including a recording portion, for recording an image by discharging ink from a nozzle onto a recording medium, and first and second engaging portions;
- a recording medium conveying device for conveying and positioning a recording surface of the recording medium at a position opposed to said ink jet recording device, the recording medium conveying device having first and second reference areas for contacting said first and second engaging portions and forming a gap between said recording device and the recording medium;
- supporting means for supporting said ink jet recording device, wherein said supporting means allows said ink jet recording device to oscillate with respect to said first and second reference areas so that said first engaging portion contacts said first reference area and said second engaging portion contacts said second reference area.
- 4. An image forming apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said conveying device has a platen with said first and second reference areas and a recording surface area, wherein said platen is movable so that said first and second reference areas of said platen contact said first and second engaging portions of said ink jet recording device to maintain a constant gap between the nozzle and the recording medium while the nozzle of said ink jet recording device is maintained parallel to said first and second reference areas.
- 5. An image forming apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said conveying device includes a perforated platen for forming said recording surface area and a fan for forming air flow for drawing said recording medium to said platen, said apparatus further comprising a temperature detection element for adjusting and maintaining the temperature of said ink jet recording device at a predetermined temperature.
- 6. An image forming apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said apparatus further comprises guide means for moving said ink jet recording device parallel to said reference areas.
- 7. An image forming apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said apparatus further comprises a guide member for moving said ink jet recording device to a retracted position away from a recording position in which said engaging portions contact said reference areas.
- 8. An image forming apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said ink jet recording device has as said recording portion a plurality of nozzles for discharging ink and having widths corresponding to the width of said recording surface area.
- 9. An image forming apparatus according to claim 8, wherein each nozzle discharges a different colored ink.
- 10. An image forming apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said ink jet recording device has a recording unit comprising plural recording heads each for discharging different liquids, wherein said recording heads are arranged along the conveyance direction of said recording medium and have widths corresponding to the width of said recording surface area.
- 11. An image forming apparatus according to claim 10, wherein each liquid is a different color.
- 12. An image forming apparatus according to claim 3, wherein a transverse registration switch for said recording device is provided.
- 13. An image forming apparatus according to claim 3, wherein a longitudinal registration switch for said recording device is provided.
- 14. An image forming apparatus according to claim 12, wherein a longitudinal registration switch for said recording device is provided.
