Claims
- 1. An image forming apparatus, comprising:first and second basic cells each containing a predetermined number of pixels and disposed adjacent to each other; a gradation processing device arranged to perform a gradation expressing process for each basic cell in accordance with a density of a supplied image; a dot forming device capable of forming dots on a recording medium to correspond to each pixel subjected to the gradation expressing process by said gradation processing device; and a device arranged to inhibit enlargement of the dot in a direction different from a first direction until the dots are enlarged in the first direction and the dots are substantially connected to each other.
- 2. An image forming apparatus, comprising:a gradation processing device arranged to perform a gradation expressing process by determining an area ratio of pixels in accordance with a density of a supplied image; and a dot forming device capable of forming dots on a recording medium to correspond to the pixels subjected to the gradation expressing process by said gradation processing device, wherein, after an area ratio of a first pixel group is raised to a first predetermined value because of enlargement of the pixels in a first direction, said gradation processing device makes the area ratio of a pixel group in the first pixel group to be constant and raises an area ratio of a second pixel group adjacent in a direction different from the first direction.
- 3. An image forming apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the first predetermined value is determined to be a value with which the substantial connection is established between a dot which is formed by said dot forming device at a position on said recording medium corresponding to the first pixel group in accordance with the area ratio of the first pixel group and a dot which is formed by said dot forming device at a position on said recording medium corresponding to the third pixel group in accordance with the area ratio of the third pixel group adjacent in the first direction.
- 4. An image forming apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the first predetermined value is made to be 1−1/2na or larger and smaller than 1 on the assumption that the ratio of the size of one pixel with respect to the diameter of a smallest dot formed by said dot forming device is a, the ratio of the size of a pixel group having a largest area ratio with respect to the size of one pixel is n and the maximum area ratio is 1.
- 5. An image forming apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said dot forming device includes an exposing light beam scanning device arranged to scan the surface of the photosensitive member with an exposing light beam spot having a predetermined diameter to correspond to each pixel subjected to the gradation expressing process by said gradation processing device in such a manner that pulse width modulation is permitted and a dot writing device arranged to write a dot to correspond to each pixel by transferring, to the recording medium, an image formed on the surface of said photosensitive member attributable to a scanning operation performed by said exposing light beam scanning device, and the first predetermined value is made to be 0.3 or larger and smaller than 1 in terms of the pulse width on the assumption that the pulse width required for said exposing light beam scanning device to expose the overall area of the first pixel group is 1.
- 6. An image forming apparatus according to claim 5, wherein the first predetermined value is made to be 0.75 to 0.9 in terms of the pulse width.
- 7. An image forming apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the direction different from the first direction is a direction diagonally intersecting the first direction.
- 8. An image forming apparatus according to claim 2, wherein after the area ratio of the second pixel group is raised to the second predetermined value, said gradation processing device maintains or reduces the area ratio of the second pixel group to be not larger than a second predetermined value and raises the area ratio of the first pixel group to be larger than the first predetermined value.
- 9. An image forming apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said gradation processing device makes the area ratio of the second pixel group to be zero after the area ratio of the second pixel group is raised to a second predetermined value.
- 10. An image forming apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said gradation processing device is arranged to perform a multivalue dither process and provided with a storage portion arranged to store a plurality of dither matrices corresponding to area ratios of pixels, a multivalue dither processing portion arranged to read a largest area ratio among area ratios corresponding to dither matrices in each of which the density of each pixel is higher than a threshold value of a supplied density stored in the dither matrix and a conversion portion arranged to convert an obtained area ratio to be a value which is not larger than the number of gradations provided for said multivalue dither processing portion.
- 11. An image forming apparatus according to claim 10, wherein the number of the dither matrices which are stored in said storage portion is larger than the number of gradations permitted for each pixel.
