Claims
- 1. A process cartridge removably mountable to a main body of an image forming system, said process cartridge comprising:
- an electrophotographic photosensitive member;
- a charging roller for charging said electrophotographic photosensitive member;
- a developing roller for developing a latent image formed on said electrophotographic photosensitive member;
- a developing bias contact for applying a developing bias to said developing roller;
- an earthing contact for earthing said electrophotographic photosensitive member; and
- a charging bias contact for applying a charging bias to said charging roller,
- wherein said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are arranged in an area adjacent to an end of said electrophotographic photosensitive member in a longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member, such that (i) said developing bias contact is arranged at a first side of said electrophotographic photosensitive member in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member, (ii) said charging bias contact is arranged at a second side of said electrophotographic photosensitive member in the orthogonal direction, and (iii) said earthing contact is provided at a position other than a rotation center of said electrophotographic photosensitive member,
- wherein a position of said earthing contact is closer to said charging bias contact than a position of said developing bias contact, and
- wherein, when said process cartridge is mounted to the main body of the image forming system, said developing bias contact, said charging bias contact, and said earthing contact respectively contact with a main body developing bias contact, a main body charging bias contact and a main body earthing contact, all of which are provided in the main body of the image forming system.
- 2. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein said earthing contact and said charging bias contact are arranged substantially along a straight line in the orthogonal direction.
- 3. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein said developing bias contact is arranged outwardly of said earthing contact and said charging bias contact in the longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 4. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein said earthing contact is disposed nearer to said electrophotographic photosensitive member than said charging bias contact is disposed to said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 5. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein said earthing contact, said developing bias contact, and said charging bias contact are arranged such that a first distance between said earthing contact and said electrophotographic photosensitive member is less than a second distance between said developing bias contact and said electrophotographic photosensitive member, the second distance being less than a third distance between said charging bias contact and said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 6. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein a contacting area of said developing bias contact is greater than at least one of a contacting area of said earthing contact and a contacting area of said charging bias contact.
- 7. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are arranged outwardly of a position where an earthing spring contacts an inner surface of a photosensitive drum, serving as said electrophotographic photosensitive member, in the longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 8. A process cartridge according to claim 1, further comprising a cleaning member for removing toner remaining on said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 9. A process cartridge according to claim 8, wherein said developing bias contact is arranged at a same side as said developing roller, and said earthing contact and said charging bias contact are arranged at a same side as said cleaning member in the orthogonal direction.
- 10. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are arranged in an area adjacent to one end of said electrophotographic photosensitive member, and at another end of said electrophotographic photosensitive member a helical gear is provided for transmitting a rotational driving force from the image forming system to a photosensitive drum which serves as said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 11. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein said earthing contact and said charging bias contact are arranged inwardly of an end of a photosensitive drum, which serves as said electrophotographic photosensitive member, in the longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 12. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein a DC voltage and AC voltage are applied to said charging roller in an overlapped state by said charging bias contact.
- 13. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein the charging bias applied to said charging roller by said charging bias contact comprises a sinusoidal wave in a range of 1.6 to 2.4 KV, -600 V.
- 14. A process cartridge removably mounted onto a main body of an image forming system, said process cartridge comprising:
- an electrophotographic photosensitive drum;
- a charging roller provided in contact with said photosensitive drum for charging said photosensitive drum;
- a developing roller disposed along a longitudinal direction of said photosensitive drum for developing a latent image formed on said photosensitive drum with toner;
- a cleaning blade provided in contact with said photosensitive drum for removing toner remaining thereon;
- a developing bias contact for applying a developing bias from the main body to said developing roller when said process cartridge is mounted onto the main body;
- an earthing contact for earthing said photosensitive drum relative to the main body when said process cartridge is mounted onto the main body; and
- a charging bias contact for applying a charging bias from the main body to said charging roller when said process cartridge is mounted onto the main body,
- wherein said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are arranged in an area adjacent to an end of said photosensitive drum in a longitudinal direction of said photosensitive drum, such that (i) said developing bias contact is arranged at a first side of said photosensitive drum in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction thereof; and (ii) said earthing contact and said charging bias contact are arranged at a second side of said photosensitive drum in the orthogonal direction, and a helical gear that receives a drive force from the main body when said process cartridge is mounted onto the main body is provided at another end of said photosensitive drum in the longitudinal direction thereof, and
- wherein a position of said earthing contact is closer to said charging bias contact than a position of said developing bias contact, and said earthing contact, said charging bias contact and said developing bias contact are provided on a surface of said process cartridge faced downwardly when said process cartridge is mounted onto the main body.
- 15. A process cartridge removably mountable to a main body of an image forming system, said process cartridge comprising:
- an electrophotographic photosensitive member;
- developing means for developing a latent image formed on said electrophotographic photosensitive member;
- a developing bias contact for applying a developing bias to said developing means;
- an earthing contact for earthing said electrophotographic photosensitive member;
- charging means for charging said electrophotographic photosensitive member; and
- a charging bias contact for applying a charging bias to said charging means,
- wherein said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are arranged in an area adjacent to an end of said electrophotographic photosensitive member in a longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member, such that (i) said developing bias contact is arranged at a first side of said electrophotographic photosensitive member in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member, and (ii) said earthing contact and said charging bias contact are arranged at a second side of said electrophotographic photosensitive member in the orthogonal direction, and
- wherein a position of said earthing contact is closer to said charging bias contact than a position of said developing bias contact.
- 16. A process cartridge according to claim 1, further comprising cleaning means for removing toner remaining on said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 17. A process cartridge according to claim 15, wherein said earthing contact and said charging bias contact are arranged substantially along a straight line in the orthogonal direction.
- 18. A process cartridge according to claim 15, wherein said developing bias contact is arranged outwardly of said earthing contact and said charging bias contact in the longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 19. A process cartridge according to claim 15, wherein said earthing contact is disposed nearer to said electrophotographic photosensitive member than said charging bias contact is disposed to said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 20. A process cartridge according to claim 15, wherein said earthing contact, said developing bias contact, and said charging bias contact are arranged such that a first distance between said earthing contact and said electrophotographic photosensitive member is less than a second distance between said developing bias contact and said electrophotographic photosensitive member, the second distance being less than a third distance between said charging bias contact and said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 21. A process cartridge according to claim 15, wherein a contacting area of said developing bias contact is greater than at least one of a contacting area of said earthing contact and a contacting area of said charging bias contact.
- 22. A process cartridge according to claim 15, wherein said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are arranged outwardly of a position where an earthing spring contacts an inner surface of a photosensitive drum, serving as said electrophotographic photosensitive member, in the longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 23. A process cartridge according to claim 15, wherein said developing bias contact is arranged at a same side as said developing means, and said earthing contact and said charging bias contact are arranged at a same side as cleaning means for cleaning said electrophotographic photosensitive member in the orthogonal direction.
- 24. A process cartridge according to claim 15, wherein said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are arranged in an area adjacent to one end of said electrophotographic photosensitive member, and at another end of said electrophotographic photosensitive member a helical gear is provided for transmitting a rotational driving force from the image forming system to a photosensitive drum which serves as said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 25. A process cartridge according to claim 15, wherein said earthing contact and said charging bias contact are arranged inwardly of an end of a photosensitive drum, which serves as said electrophotographic photosensitive member, in the longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 26. A process cartridge according to claim 15, wherein the developing bias applied to said developing means by said developing bias contact comprises a rectangular wave of 1.2 KV and 1950 Hz.
- 27. A process cartridge according to claim 15, wherein the charging bias applied to said charging means by said charging bias contact comprises a sinusoidal wave in a range of 1.6 to 2.4 KV, -600 V.
- 28. A process cartridge according to claim 15, wherein said charging means has a charger roller to which DC voltage and AC voltage are applied in an overlapped state by said charging bias contact.
- 29. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein the developing bias applied to said developing means by said developing bias contact comprises a rectangular wave of 1.2 kV and 1950 Hz.
- 30. An image forming system, comprising:
- mounting means for removably mounting a process cartridge to a main body of said image forming system, the process cartridge including an electrophotographic photosensitive member, developing means for developing a latent image formed on the electrophotographic photosensitive member, a first developing bias contact for applying a developing bias to the developing means, a first earthing contact for earthing the electrophotographic photosensitive member, charging means for charging the electrophotographic photosensitive member, and a first charging bias contact for applying a charging bias to the charging means,
- wherein the first developing bias contact, the first earthing contact, and the first charging bias contact are arranged in an area adjacent to a same end of the electrophotographic photosensitive member in a longitudinal direction of the electrophotographic photosensitive member, such that (i) the first developing bias contact is arranged at a first side of the electrophotographic photosensitive member in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of the electrophotographic photosensitive member, and (ii) the first earthing contact and the first charging bias contact are arranged at a second side of the electrophotographic photosensitive member in the orthogonal direction, and
- wherein a position of the first earthing contact is closer to the first charging bias contact than a position of the first developing bias contact;
- a second developing bias contact, provided in said main body of said image forming system, for contacting the first developing bias contact;
- a second earthing contact, provided in said main body of said image forming system, for contacting the first earthing contact; and
- a second charging bias contact, provided in said main body of said image forming system, for contacting the first charging bias contact.
- 31. An image forming system according to claim 30, wherein said image forming system comprises an electrophotographic copying machine.
- 32. An image forming system according to claim 30, wherein said image forming system comprises a laser beam printer.
- 33. An image forming system according to claim 30, wherein said image system forming comprises a facsimile machine.
- 34. A process cartridge removably mountable to a main body of an image forming system, said process cartridge comprising:
- an electrophotographic photosensitive member;
- developing means for developing a latent image formed on said electrophotographic photosensitive member;
- a developing bias contact for applying a developing bias to said developing means;
- an earthing contact for earthing said electrophotographic photosensitive member;
- charging means for charging said electrophotographic photosensitive member; and
- a charging bias contact for applying a charging bias to said charging means,
- wherein said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are arranged in an area adjacent to an end of said electrophotographic photosensitive member in a direction orthogonal to a moving direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member, such that (i) said developing bias contact is arranged at a first side, where said developing means is provided, relative to said electrophotographic photosensitive member, and (ii) said earthing contact and said charging bias contact are arranged at a second side, where cleaning means is provided, relative to said electrophotographic photosensitive member, and
- wherein a position of said earthing contact is closer to said charging contact than a position of said developing bias contact.
- 35. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein said earthing contact and said charging bias contact are arranged substantially along a straight line in the orthogonal direction.
- 36. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein said developing bias contact is arranged outwardly of said earthing contact and said charging bias contact in a longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 37. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein said earthing contact is disposed nearer to said electrophotographic photosensitive member than said charging bias contact is disposed to said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 38. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein a first distance between said earthing contact and said electrophotographic photosensitive member is less than a second distance between said developing bias contact and said electrophotographic photosensitive member, the second distance being less than a third distance between said charging bias contact and said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 39. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein a contacting area of said developing bias contact is greater than at least one of a contacting area of said earthing contact and a contacting area of said charging bias contact.
- 40. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are arranged outwardly of a position where an earthing spring contacts an inner surface of a photosensitive drum, which serves as said electrophotographic photosensitive member, in a longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 41. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are arranged adjacent to one end of said electrophotographic photosensitive member, and at another end of said electrophotographic photosensitive member a helical gear is provided for transmitting a rotational driving force from the image forming system to a photosensitive drum, which serves as said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 42. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein said earthing contact and said charging bias contact are arranged inwardly of an end of a photosensitive drum, which serves as said electrophotographic photosensitive member, in a longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 43. A process cartridge according to claim 34, further comprising cleaning means for removing toner remaining on said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 44. A process cartridge according to claim 43, wherein said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are disposed such that, when said process cartridge is mounted onto the main body of the image forming system, said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are located below said process cartridge.
- 45. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are disposed such that, when said process cartridge is mounted onto the main body of the image forming system, said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are located below said process cartridge.
- 46. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein the developing bias applied to said developing means by said developing bias contact comprises a rectangular wave of 1.2 KV and 1950 Hz.
- 47. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein the charging bias applied to said charging means by said charging bias contact comprises a sinusoidal wave in a range of 1.6 to 2.4 KV, -600 V.
- 48. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein said charging means has a charger roller to which DC voltage and AC voltage are applied in an overlapped state by said charging bias contact.
- 49. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein said electrophotographic photosensitive member comprises a photosensitive drum, and wherein the moving direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member comprises a rotating direction of said photosensitive drum.
- 50. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein said electrophotographic photosensitive member comprises a photosensitive drum, and wherein a direction orthogonal to the moving direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive member comprises a longitudinal direction of said photosensitive drum.
- 51. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein at least one of said contacts comprises stainless steel material.
- 52. A process cartridge according to claim 34, wherein at least one of said contacts comprises phosphor bronze material.
- 53. An image forming system, to which a process cartridge can be removably mounted, for forming an image on a recording medium, said image forming system comprising:
- mounting means for removably mounting the process cartridge to a main body of said image forming system, the process cartridge including an electrophotographic photosensitive member, developing means for developing a latent image formed on the electrophotographic photosensitive member, a first developing bias contact for applying a developing bias to the developing means, a first earthing contact for earthing the electrophotographic photosensitive member, charging means for charging said electrophotographic photosensitive member, and a first charging bias contact for applying a charging bias to the charging means,
- wherein the first developing bias contact, the first earthing contact, and the first charging bias contact are arranged in an area adjacent to an end of the electrophotographic photosensitive member in a direction orthogonal to a moving direction of the electrophotographic photosensitive member, such that (i) the first developing bias contact is arranged at a first side where the developing means is provided relative to the electrophotographic photosensitive member, and (ii) the first earthing contact and the first charging bias contact are arranged at a second side where cleaning means for removing toner remaining on the electrophotographic photosensitive member is provided relative to the electrophotographic photosensitive member, and
- wherein a position of the first earthing contact is closer to the first charging bias contact than a position of the first developing bias contact;
- a second developing bias contact, provided in said main body of said image forming system, for contacting the first developing bias contact;
- a second earthing contact, provided in said main body of said image forming system, for contacting the first earthing contact; and
- a second charging bias contact, provided in said main body of said image forming system, for contacting the first charging bias contact.
- 54. An image forming system according to claim 53, wherein said image forming system comprises an electrophotographic copying machine.
- 55. An image forming system according to claim 53, wherein said image forming system comprises a laser beam printer.
- 56. An image forming system according to claim 53, wherein said image forming system comprises a facsimile machine.
- 57. A process cartridge removably mountable onto a main body of an electrophotographic image forming system having a main body charge bias contact, a main body developing bias contact and a main body earth contact, said process cartridge comprising:
- an electrophotographic photosensitive drum;
- a charging roller abutted against said electrophotographic photosensitive drum for charging said electrophotographic photosensitive drum;
- a developing roller for developing a latent image formed on said electrophotographic photosensitive drum by using toner, said developing roller supplying toner to said electrophotographic photosensitive drum by a rotation thereof;
- a cleaning blade abutted to said electrophotographic photosensitive drum for removing toner from said electrophotographic photosensitive drum;
- a charging bias contact to be contacted with the main body charge bias contact to receive a charge bias and for applying the charge bias to said charging roller when said process cartridge is mounted onto the main body of the electrophotographic image forming system;
- a developing bias contact to be contacted with the main body developing bias contact to receive a developing bias and for applying the developing bias to said developing roller when said process cartridge is mounted onto the main body of the electrophotographic image forming system; and
- an earthing contact to be contacted with the main body earth contact for earthing between said electrophotographic photosensitive drum and the main body of the electrophotographic image forming system when said process cartridge is mounted onto the main body of the electrophotographic image forming system,
- wherein:
- (i) said charging bias contact, said developing bias contact, and said earthing contact are disposed adjacent one end of said electrophotographic photosensitive drum in a longitudinal direction thereof;
- (ii) said developing bias contact is disposed at a same side of said process cartridge as said developing roller in a direction crossing with the longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive drum;
- (iii) said charging bias contact and said earthing contact are disposed at a same side of said process cartridge as said cleaning blade in the direction crossing with the longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive drum; and
- (iv) upon mounting said process cartridge onto the main body of the electrophotographic image forming system, another end of said electrophotographic photosensitive drum opposite the one end in the longitudinal direction thereof is forwardly oriented, and the one end is rearwardly oriented, relative to a mounting direction.
- 58. A process cartridge according to claim 57, wherein said earthing contact and said charging bias contact are arranged substantially along a straight line in the orthogonal direction.
- 59. A process cartridge according to claim 57, wherein said developing bias contact is arranged outwardly of said earthing contact and said charging bias contact in the longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive drum.
- 60. A process cartridge according to claim 57, wherein said earthing contact is disposed nearer to said electrophotographic photosensitive drum than said charging bias contact is disposed to said electrophotographic photosensitive drum.
- 61. A process cartridge according to claim 57, wherein said earthing contact, said developing bias contact, and said charging bias contact are arranged such that a first distance between said earthing contact and said electrophotographic photosensitive drum member is less than a second distance between said developing bias contact and said electrophotographic photosensitive drum, the second distance being less than a third distance between said charging bias contact and said electrophotographic photosensitive drum.
- 62. A process cartridge according to claim 57, wherein a contacting area of said developing bias contact is greater than at least one of a contacting area of said earthing contact and a contacting area of said charging bias contact.
- 63. A process cartridge according to claim 57, wherein said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are arranged outwardly of a position where an earthing spring contacts an inner surface of said electrophotographic photosensitive drum in the longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive drum.
- 64. A process cartridge according to claim 57, wherein said developing bias contact, said earthing contact, and said charging bias contact are arranged in an area adjacent to one end of said electrophotographic photosensitive drum and at another end of said electrophotographic photosensitive drum a helical gear is provided for transmitting a rotational driving force from the electrophotographic image forming system to said electrophotographic photosensitive drum.
- 65. A process cartridge according to claim 57, wherein said earthing contact and said charging bias contact are arranged inwardly of an end of said electrophotographic photosensitive drum in the longitudinal direction of said electrophotographic photosensitive drum.
- 66. A process cartridge according to claim 57, wherein said process cartridge comprises a unit including (i) process means which comprises (a) said charging roller, (b) said developing roller, and (c) said cleaning blade, and (ii) said electrophotographic photosensitive drum, said unit being removably mountable to the electrophotographic image forming system.
- 67. A process cartridge according to claim 57, wherein the developing bias applied to said developing roller by said developing bias contact comprises a rectangular wave of 1.2 KV and 1950 Hz.
- 68. A process cartridge according to claim 57, wherein the charging bias applied to said charging roller by said charging bias contact comprises a sinusoidal wave in a range of 1.6 to 2.4 KV, -600 V.
- 69. A process cartridge according to claim 57, wherein a DC voltage and an AC voltage are applied to said charging roller in an overlapped state by said charging bias contact.
- 70. A process cartridge according to claim 57, wherein said charging bias contact, said developing bias contact, and said earthing contact are disposed such that, when said process cartridge is mounted onto the main body of the electrophotographic image forming system, said charging bias contact, said developing bias contact, and said earthing contact are located below said process cartridge.
- 71. An electrophotographic image forming apparatus onto which a process cartridge is removably mountable for forming an image on a recording medium, said electrophotographic image forming apparatus comprising:
- a mounting member for removably mounting a process cartridge, the process cartridge having:
- an electrophotographic photosensitive drum;
- a charging roller abutted against the electrophotographic photosensitive drum for charging the electrophotographic photosensitive drum;
- a developing roller for developing a latent image formed on the electrophotographic photosensitive drum by using toner, the developing roller supplying toner to the electrophotographic photosensitive drum by a rotation thereof;
- a cleaning blade abutted to the electrophotographic photosensitive drum for removing toner from the electrophotographic photosensitive drum;
- a charging bias contact to be contacted with a main body charge bias contact to receive a charge bias and for applying the charge bias to the charging roller when the process cartridge is mounted onto a main body of said electrophotographic image forming apparatus;
- a developing bias contact to be contacted with a main body developing bias contact to receive a developing bias and for applying the developing bias to the developing roller when the process cartridge is mounted onto said main body of said electrophotographic image forming apparatus;
- an earthing contact to be contacted with a main body earth contact for earthing between the electrophotographic photosensitive drum and said main body of said electrophotographic image forming apparatus when the process cartridge is mounted onto said main body of said electrophotographic image forming apparatus,
- wherein:
- (i) the charging bias contact, the developing bias contact, and the earthing contact are disposed at one end of the electrophotographic photosensitive drum in a longitudinal direction thereof;
- (ii) the developing bias contact is disposed at a same side of the process cartridge as the developing roller in a direction crossing with the longitudinal direction of the electrophotographic photosensitive drum;
- (iii) the charging bias contact and the earthing contact are disposed at a same side of the process cartridge as the cleaning blade in the direction crossing with the longitudinal direction of the electrophotographic photosensitive drum; and
- (iv) upon mounting the process cartridge onto said main body of said electrophotographic image forming apparatus, another end of the electrophotographic photosensitive drum opposite the one end in the longitudinal direction thereof is forwardly oriented, and the one end is rearwardly oriented, relative to a mounting direction;
- a main body charge bias contact to be contacted with the charging bias contact of the process cartridge mounted onto said mounting member;
- a main body developing bias contact to be contacted with the developing bias contact of the process cartridge mounted onto said mounting member; and
- a main body earth contact to be contacted with the earthing contact of the process cartridge mounted onto said mounting member.
- 72. An electrophotographic image forming apparatus according to claim 71, wherein the charging bias contact, the developing bias contact, and the earthing contact are disposed such that, when the process cartridge is mounted onto said main body of said electrophotographic image forming apparatus, the charging bias contact, the developing bias contact, and the earthing contact are located below the process cartridge.
- 73. A process cartridge removably mountable onto a main body of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, said process cartridge comprising:
- an electrophotographic photosensitive drum;
- a charging member for charging said photosensitive drum;
- a developing member disposed to one side of said photosensitive drum for developing a latent image formed on said photosensitive drum by using toner;
- a cleaning member disposed to the opposite side of said photosensitive drum with respect to the developing member for removing toner from said photosensitive drum;
- a charging bias receiving contact, disposed adjacent one end of said photosensitive drum and to said opposite side of said photosensitive drum, for engaging a charging bias supplying contact of the main body to receive a charging bias for application to said charging member;
- a developing bias receiving contact, disposed adjacent said one end of said photosensitive drum and to said one side of said photosensitive drum, for engaging a developing bias supplying contact of the main body to receive a developing bias for application to said developing member; and
- a drum earthing contact disposed adjacent said one end of said photosensitive drum, for engaging an earthing contact of the main body to earth said photosensitive drum,
- wherein said drum earthing contact is disposed to said opposite side of said photosensitive drum and longitudinally inwardly of said one end of said photosensitive drum.
- 74. A process cartridge according to claim 73, wherein said charging bias receiving contact is disposed longitudinally inwardly of said one end of said photosensitive drum.
- 75. A process cartridge according to claim 74, wherein said charging bias receiving contact and said drum earthing contact are disposed longitudinally inwardly of said one end of said photosensitive drum by a same amount.
- 76. A process cartridge according to claim 73 or 75, wherein said developing bias receiving contact is disposed, with respect to said photosensitive drum, longitudinally outwardly of said charging bias receiving contact and said drum earthing contact.
- 77. A process cartridge according to claim 73 or 75, wherein said drum earthing contact is disposed radially closer to said photosensitive drum than said charging bias receiving contact.
- 78. A process cartridge according to claim 77, wherein said developing bias receiving contact is radially disposed, with respect to said photosensitive drum, between said drum earthing contact and said charging bias receiving contact.
- 79. A process cartridge according to claim 73 or 75, wherein said developing bias receiving contact has a larger contact area than a contact area of said drum earthing contact and a contact area of said charging bias receiving contact.
- 80. A process cartridge according to claim 78, further comprising an earthing spring which is connected to said drum earthing contact and which engages an inner surface of said photosensitive drum at a position which is longitudinally more inwardly of said one end of said photosensitive drum than said drum earthing contact.
- 81. A process cartridge according to claim 73 or 75, wherein said charging bias receiving contact, said developing bias receiving contact, and said drum earthing contact face downwardly underneath said process cartridge.
- 82. A process cartridge according to claim 73, wherein said charging member includes a charging roller which abuts said photosensitive drum.
- 83. A process cartridge according to claim 73, wherein said cleaning member includes a cleaning blade which abuts said photosensitive drum.
- 84. A process cartridge according to claim 73, wherein said developing member includes a developing roller arranged for supplying toner to said photosensitive drum upon rotation thereof.
- 85. A process cartridge according to claim 73 or 75, further comprising upper and lower frames which are separably connected to each other, and a drum support member which is attached to said lower frame; wherein said upper frame supports said charging member, and said lower frame supports said cleaning member and said developing member; wherein said charging bias receiving contact is attached to said upper frame; wherein said developing bias receiving contact and said drum earthing contact are attached to said drum support member; and wherein said drum support member supports said one end of said photosensitive drum.
- 86. A process cartridge according to claim 84, wherein said developing member includes a magnet disposed within said developing roller and supported at one end thereof by the drum support member.
- 87. A process cartridge according to claim 85, wherein an abutment is provided on said lower frame and protrudes upwardly through an opening in said upper frame.
- 88. A process cartridge according to claim 73, wherein said photosensitive drum includes a helical gear at another end of said photosensitive drum opposite said one end for receiving a driving force from the main body to rotate said photosensitive drum.
