Abstract

According to the claimed invention, an image processing method, comprises the steps of storing a plurality of pieces of identification information of a plurality of information processing apparatuses; instructing to change the identification information stored; displaying, when the instructing step gives the instruction to change the identification information, the plurality of pieces of identification information of the plurality of information processing apparatuses stored; searching for information processing apparatuses on the network; displaying a plurality of pieces of identification information of the information processing apparatuses found; and changing identification information selected from the plurality of pieces of identification information displayed in the first displaying step into identification information selected from the plurality of pieces of identification information displayed in the second displaying step.

Claims

1. An image processing apparatus connected to a network, comprising: a storage unit adapted to store a plurality of pieces of identification information of a plurality of information processing apparatuses;an instruction unit adapted to instruct to change the identification information stored in said storage unit;a first display unit adapted to display, when said instruction unit gives the instruction to change the identification information, the plurality of pieces of identification information of the plurality of information processing apparatuses stored in said storage unit;a search unit adapted to search for information processing apparatuses on the network;a second display unit adapted to display a plurality of pieces of identification information of the information processing apparatuses found by said search unit; anda change unit adapted to change identification information selected from the plurality of pieces of identification information displayed by said first display unit into identification information selected from the plurality of pieces of identification information displayed by said second display unit.

The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein when a user inputs a display instruction of identification information candidates to be changed, said first display unit displays the plurality of pieces of identification information of the plurality of information processing apparatuses stored in said storage unit, and when the user inputs a display instruction of identification information candidates as a change destination, said second display unit displays the plurality of pieces of identification information of the information processing apparatuses found by said search unit.

The apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising a unit adapted to specify identification information stored in said storage unit of the plurality of pieces of identification information of the information processing apparatuses found by said search unit, and wherein said second display unit does not display the identification information stored in said storage unit of the identification information of the plurality of pieces of information processing apparatuses found by said search unit.

The apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising a unit adapted to specify identification information found by said search unit of the plurality of pieces of identification information stored in said storage unit, and wherein said first display unit does not display the identification information found by said search unit of the plurality of pieces of identification information stored in said storage unit.

The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said storage unit stores settings associated with a plurality of types of setting items for one of the plurality of pieces of identification information, and said apparatus further comprises a unit adapted to select, when said change unit changes the identification information selected from the plurality of pieces of identification information displayed by said first display unit, whether or not the identification information is changed for all the plurality of types of setting items for the identification information.

6. The apparatus according to claim 5, wherein said selection unit selects an item to be changed of the plurality of types of setting items for the identification information.

7. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the identification information includes at least one of a host name, a network address, and a physical address of the information processing apparatus.

8. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the setting item to be set for the identification information stored in said storage unit includes at least one of an IP filter setting, a MAC filter setting, an IPsec setting, and a setting registered in an address book.

9. The apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising an image forming unit adapted to receive print data from the information processing apparatus connected to the network and to form an image according to the print data.

10. An image processing method in an image processing apparatus connected to a network, comprising: a storage step of storing a plurality of pieces of identification information of a plurality of information processing apparatuses;an instruction step of instructing to change the identification information stored in the storage step;a first display step of displaying, when the instruction step instructs to change the identification information, the plurality of pieces of identification information of the plurality of information processing apparatuses stored in the storage step;a search step of searching for information processing apparatuses on the network;a second display step of displaying a plurality of pieces of identification information of the information processing apparatuses found in the search step; anda change step of changing identification information selected from the plurality of pieces of identification information displayed in the first display step into identification information selected from the plurality of pieces of identification information displayed in the second display step.

11. A program which is recorded on a computer-readable recording medium and makes a computer connected to a network execute an image processing method, said method comprising: a storage step of storing a plurality of pieces of identification information of a plurality of information processing apparatuses;an instruction step of instructing to change the identification information stored in the storage step;a first display step of displaying, when the instruction step instructs to change the identification information, the plurality of pieces of identification information of the plurality of information processing apparatuses stored in the storage step;a search step of searching for information processing apparatuses on the network;a second display step of displaying a plurality of pieces of identification information of the information processing apparatuses found in the search step; anda change step of changing identification information selected from the plurality of pieces of identification information displayed in the first display step into identification information selected from the plurality of pieces of identification information displayed in the second display step.
