Claims
- 1. An image processing apparatus comprising:
- an image signal generating means for generating an image signal;
- discriminating means for discriminating characteristics of the image signal generated by said image signal generating means; and
- pulse-width-modulated signal generating means for processing the image signal generated by said image signal generating means and outputting a pulse-width-modulated signal,
- wherein said pulse-width-modulated signal generating means generates a first pulse-width-modulated signal corresponding to a first resolution and a second pulse-width-modulated signal corresponding to a second resolution different from the first resolution and the first or second resolution is selected in accordance with a discrimination result obtained by said discriminating means.
- 2. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said pulse-width-modulated signal generating means comprises a pattern signal generating means, said pattern signal generating means generating first and second pattern signals having different periods,
- wherein said pulse-width-modulated signal generating means generating the first pulse-width-modulated signal corresponding to the first pattern signal and the second pulse-width-modulated signal corresponding to the second pattern signal, and
- wherein said pulse-width-modulated signal generating means processes the image signal generated by said image signal generating means in accordance with a predetermined pattern signal and outputs the pulse-width-modulated signal.
- 3. An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the first and second pattern signals are each triangular wave signals.
- 4. An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said pulse-width-modulated signal generating means includes selecting means for selecting the first or second pattern signal in accordance with a discrimination result obtained by said discriminating means.
- 5. An apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said pattern signal generating means comprises clock signal generating means for generating first and second clock signals having different periods for forming the first and second pattern signals, said selecting means being adapted to select one of the first and second clock signals.
- 6. An apparatus according to claim 2, further comprising image forming means for modulating a beam on the basis of said first or second pulse-width-modulated signal and for forming an image on a record medium by scanning the modulated beam, said image forming means including means for generating a sync signal indicating a scan position of the modulated beam, wherein said pattern signal generating means generates the first or second pattern signal in synchronism with said sync signal.
- 7. An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said image signal generating means includes digital-to-analog conversion means for converting an input digital image signal into an analog signal and wherein said pulse-width-modulated signal generating means includes means for comparing an analog image signal output from said digital-to-analog conversion means with the first or second pattern signal to output the first or the second pulse-width-modulated signal, respectively.
- 8. An image processing apparatus comprising:
- image signal generating means for generating an image signal;
- discriminating means for discriminating characteristics of the image signal generated by said generating means;
- pulse-width-modulated signal generating means for processing the image signal in accordance with a predetermined analog pattern signal and outputting a pulse-width-modulated signal; and
- image forming means for modulating a beam on the basis of said pulse-width-modulated signal and for forming an image on a record medium by scanning the modulated beam, said image forming means including means for generating a sync signal indicating a scan position of the modulated beam, wherein the predetermined analog pattern signal is generated in synchronism with said sync signal, and
- wherein said discriminating means comprises selecting means for selecting a characteristic of the pulse-width-modulated signal to be output in accordance with the discrimination result obtained by said discriminating means.
- 9. An apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said pulse-width-modulated signal generating means comprises analog pattern signal generating means for generating first and second analog pattern signals having different periods, and wherein said selecting means selects the first or second analog pattern signal in accordance with a discrimination result obtained by said discriminating means.
- 10. An apparatus according to claim 9, wherein the first and second analog pattern signals are each triangular wave signals.
- 11. An apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said image signal generating means includes digital-to-analog conversion means for converting an input digital image signal into an analog image signal, and wherein said pulse-width-modulated signal generating means compares an analog image signal output from said digital-to-analog conversion means with the predetermined analog pattern signal to output the pulse-width-modulated signal.
