Claims
- 1. An imidazolylacetic acid amide of the formula: ##SPC13##
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable nontoxic salt thereof
- wherein
- R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a saturated 6-membered heterocyclic ring contaning a --SO.sub.2 -- moiety, said heterocyclic ring being otherwise unsubstituted or substituted by alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or phenyl, and
- X.sup.1, x.sup.2, x.sup.3 and X.sup.4 are the same or different and are each hydrogen or halogen.
- 2. A compound according to claim 1 wherein
- R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a saturated 6-membered heterocyclic ring containing a --SO.sub.2 -- moiety, said heterocyclic ring containing a --SO.sub.2 -- moiety being otherwise unsubstituted or substituted by methyl, ethyl or phenyl, and
- either
- X.sup.1, x.sup.2, x.sup.3 and X.sup.4 are each hydrogen,
- or
- X.sup.1 and X.sup.3 are each halogen and
- X.sup.2 and X.sup.4 are each hydrogen.
- 3. A compound according to claim 2 wherein
- either
- X.sup.1, x.sup.2, x.sup.3 and X.sup.4 are each hydrogen,
- or
- X.sup.1 and X.sup.3 are each chlorine and
- X.sup.2 and X.sup.3 are each hydrogen.
- 4. A compound according to claim 1 wherein
- R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a 6-membered heterocycle selected from the group consisting of: ##SPC14##
- and either
- X.sup.1, x.sup.2, x.sup.3 and X.sup.4 are each hydrogen,
- or
- X.sup.1 and X.sup.3 are chlorine and
- X.sup.2 and X.sup.4 are hydrogen.
- 5. A compound according to claim 1 wherein
- R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a saturated 6-membered heterocyclic ring of the formula: ##SPC15##
- unsubstituted or substituted by methyl, ethyl, or phenyl
- and either
- X.sup.1, x.sup.2, x.sup.3 and X.sup.4 are each hydrogen
- or
- X.sup.1 and X.sup.3 are chlorine and
- X.sup.2 and X.sup.4 are hydrogen.
- 6. A compound according to claim 1 in the form of a salt wherein said salt is selected from the group consisting of the hydrochloride, the hydrobromide, the phosphate, nitrate, acetate, maleate, succinate, fumarate, tartrate, citrate, salicylate, sorbate, lactate, and 1,5-naphthalenedisulphonate.
- 7. The salt according to claim 6 which is the hydrochloride salt.
- 8. The compound according to claim 1 which is ##SPC16##
- 9. The compound according to claim 1 wherein
- R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a saturated 6-membered heterocyclic ring of the formula: ##SPC17##
- and
- X.sup.1, x.sup.2, x.sup.3 and X.sup.4 are each hydrogen.
- 10. The compound according to claim 1 wherein
- R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a saturated 6-membered heterocyclic ring of the formula: ##SPC18##
- and
- X.sup.1, x.sup.2, x.sup.3 and X.sup.4 are each hydrogen.
- 11. The compound according to claim 1 wherein
- R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a saturated 6-membered heterocyclic ring of the formula: ##SPC19##
- and
- X.sup.1, x.sup.2, x.sup.3 and X.sup.4 are each hydrogen.
- 12. The compound according to claim 1 wherein
- R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a saturated 6-membered heterocyclic ring of the formula: ##SPC20##
- and
- X.sup.1 and X.sup.3 are each 4-chloro and
- X.sup.2 and X.sup.4 are each hydrogen.
