Claims
- 1. An impact resistant film comprising:
- a) two outer layers of a blend of ethylene propylene copolymer containing less than 6% ethylene by weight and a polystyrene/ethylene butylene copolymer/polystyrene block copolymer;
- b) a central layer comprising ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer having a melt index less than 1.0; and
- c) an intermediate layer disposed between each of the two outer layers and the central layer respectively and comprising ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer having a melt index greater than about 1.0.
- 2. The impact resistant film of claim 1 wherein the two outer layers each comprise a blend of 70% to 90% ethylene butylene copolymer, and 10% to 30% of a polystyrene/ethylene propylene copolymer/polystyrene block copolymer.
- 3. The impact resistant film of claim 1 wherein the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer of the intermediate layers has a vinyl acetate content of between about 18% and 35% by weight of the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer.
- 4. The impact resistant film of claim 1 further comprising an outermost layer of low density polyethylene adhered to at least one of the two outer layers.
- 5. A pouch made from the film of claim 1.
- 6. The film of claim 1 wherein the impact resistant film is cross-linked.
- 7. An impact resistant film comprising:
- a) two outer layers of a blend of ethylene propylene copolymer containing less than 6% ethylene by weight and a polystyrene/ethylene butylene copolymer/polystyrene block copolymer;
- b) a central layer comprising ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer having a melt index greater than about 1.0; and
- c) an intermediate layer disposed between each of the two outer layers and the central layer respectively and comprising ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer having a melt index less than 1.0.
- 8. The impact resistant film of claim 7 wherein the two outer layers each comprise a blend of 70% to 90% ethylene propylene copolymer, and 10% to 30% of a polystyrene/ethylene butylene copolymer/polystyrene block copolymer.
- 9. The impact resistant film of claim 7 wherein the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer of the central layer has a vinyl acetate content of between about 18% and 35% by weight of the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer.
- 10. The impact resistant film of claim 7 further comprising and outermost layer of low density polyethylene adhered to at least one of the two outer layer.
- 11. A pouch made from the film of claim 7.
- 12. The film of claim 7 wherein the impact resistant film is cross-linked.
- 13. An impact resistant film comprising:
- a) a first outer layer comprising a blend of ethylene propylene copolymer containing less than 6% ethylene by weight and polystyrene/ethylene butylene copolymer/polystyrene block copolymer;
- b) a second outer layer comprising a copolyester synthesized from more than one diol and a dibasic acid;
- c) a central layer comprising ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer having a melt index less than 1.0;
- d) an intermediate layer disposed between each of the outer layers and the central layer respectively and comprising ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer having a melt index greater than about 1.0; and
- e) a polymeric adhesive layer disposed between and adhering the second outer layer to an intermediate layer.
- 14. The impact resistant film of claim 13 wherein the first outer layer each comprises a blend of 70% to 90% ethylene propylene copolymer, and 10% to 30% of a polystyrene/ethylene butylene copolymer/polystyrene block copolymer.
- 15. The impact resistant film of claim 13 wherein the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer of the central layer has a vinyl acetate content of between about 18% and 35% by weight of the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer.
- 16. The impact resistant film of claim 13 wherein the polymeric adhesive comprises a chemically modified ethylene unsaturated ester copolymer.
- 17. The impact resistant film of claim 13 wherein the chemically modified ethylene unsaturated ester copolymer is an adhesive selected from the group consisting of chemically modified ethylene methyl acrylate copolymer and chemically modified ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer.
- 18. A pouch made from the film of claim 13.
- 19. The film of claim 3 wherein the impact resistant film is cross-linked.
- 20. An impact resistant film comprising:
- a) first outer layer comprising a blend of ethylene propylene copolymer containing less than 6% ethylene and a polystyrene/ethylene butylene copolymer/polystyrene block copolymer;
- b) a second outer layer comprising a copolyester synthesized from more than one diol and a dibasic acid;
- c) a central layer comprising ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer having a melt index greater than about 1.0;
- d) an intermediate layer disposed between the first outer layer and the central layer and comprising ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer having a melt index less than 1.0; and
- e) a polymeric adhesive layer disposed between and adhering the second outer layer to the central layer.
- 21. The impact resistant film of claim 20 wherein the first outer layer each comprises a blend of 70% to 90% ethylene propylene copolymer, and 10% to 30% of a polystyrene/ethylene butylene copolymer/polystyrene block polymer.
- 22. The impact resistant film of claim 20 wherein the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer of the intermediate layer has a vinyl acetate content of between about 18% and 35% by weight of the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer.
- 23. The impact resistant film of claim 20 wherein the polymeric adhesive comprises a chemically modified ethylene unsaturated ester polymer.
- 24. The impact resistant film of claim 23 wherein the chemically modified ethylene unsaturated ester copolymer is an adhesive selected from the group consisting of chemically modified ethylene methyl acrylate copolymer and chemically modified ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer.
- 25. A pouch made from the film of claim 20.
- 26. The film of claim 20 wherein the impact resistant film is cross-linked.
