Claims
- 1. A soft-tissue composite prosthesis, comprising:a tubular liner having an inner diameter, an outer diameter, and a first melting temperature; and a tubular textile sleeve having an interior diameter close to said outer diameter of said tubular liner and a second melting temperature, wherein said second melting temperature is different from said first melting temperature, said tubular textile sleeve being affixed to said tubular liner.
- 2. The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein said textile sleeve is affixed to said tubular liner by meltably fusing said sleeve to said liner, whereby at least one of said sleeve and said liner are melted.
- 3. The prosthesis of claim 2, wherein at least one of said first melting temperature and said second melting temperature is in the range of from about 125° C. to about 225° C.
- 4. The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein said textile sleeve is affixed to said tubular liner by adhesively laminating said sleeve to said liner.
- 5. The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein said textile sleeve is affixed to said tubular liner by separately sewing said sleeve to said liner.
- 6. The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein said tubular liner is a polymeric material.
- 7. The prosthesis of claim 6, wherein said polymeric material is selected from the group consisting of a polytetrafluoroethylene, a urethane, a silicone, and a polyester.
- 8. The prosthesis of claim 7, wherein said polymeric material is a microporous structure of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePITE).
- 9. The prosthesis of claim 8, wherein a thickness of said tubular liner is from about 10 microns to about 50 microns.
- 10. The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein said tubular liner is substantially blood tight.
- 11. The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein said textile sleeve is formed by one of weaving, knitting and braiding a material selected from the group consisting of fibers, yarns, rovings, and tapes.
- 12. The prosthesis of claim 11, wherein said textile sleeve comprises fibers of a material selected from the group consisting of PTFE, ethylene chlorotetrafluoroethylene, fluorinated ethylene-propylene (FEP) and polyvinyl fluoride.
- 13. The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein said textile sleeve comprises a combination of bioabsorbable yarns and biocompatible yarns.
- 14. The prosthesis of claim 13 wherein said bioabsorbable yarn is formed from a material selected from the group consisting of poly(glycolic acid), polyl(lactic acid), polydioxanones, polyoxalates, poly(α-esters), polycarbonates, polyanhydrides, polyacetals, polycaprolactones, poly(orthoesters), polyamino acids, polyurethanes, polyaminocarbonates, polyamines, poly(alkyl cyanoacrylates), sebacic acid, polyethylene glycol, polyphosphazene, bis(p-carboxy-phenoxy) propane, bis(p-carboxyphenoxy) methane and copolymers and mixtures thereof.
- 15. The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein said textile sleeve comprises at least one of a flat yarn, a twisted yarn, a textured yarn, and a pre-shrunk yarn.
- 16. The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein said textile sleeve is a synthetic yarn formed from a material selected from the group consisting of polyesters, polypropylene polyethylenes, polyurethanes, and polytetrafluorethylenes and copolymers and mixtures thereof.
- 17. The prosthesis of claim 16, wherein said synthetic yarn possesses a denier of from about 20 to about 1000.
- 18. The prosthesis of claim 17, wherein said synthetic yarn possesses a denier of from about 40 to about 300.
- 19. The prosthesis of claim 15, wherein said textile sleeve is formed by warp knitting to form a velour surface.
- 20. The prosthesis of claim 19, wherein said velour surface comprises a single velour fabric, wherein loops of said velour fabric are on an exterior surface of said fabric.
- 21. The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein said textile sleeve has pores sufficient to permit connective tissue ingrowth when implanted into a mammal.
- 22. A soft-tissue composite prosthesis, comprising:a fluid-tight microporous tubular liner having an inner diameter, an outer diameter, said tubular liner comprising a polymeric material selected from the group consisting of a polytetrafluoroethylene, a urethane, a silicone, and a polyester; and a tubular textile sleeve having an interior diameter close to said outer diameter of said tubular liner and being formed by weaving, knitting or braiding a material selected from the group consisting of fibers, yarns, rovings, and tapes, wherein said prosthesis is formed by at least one of meltably fusing said tubular liner to said textile sleeve, adhesively laminating said textile sleeve to said tubular liner and separately sewing said textile sleeve to said tubular liner.
- 23. A soft-tissue composite prosthesis, comprising:a tubular liner having an inner diameter, an outer diameter, said tubular liner comprising a polymeric material selected from the group consisting of a polytetrafluoroethylene, a urethane, a silicone, and a polyester; and a tubular textile sleeve having an interior diameter close to said outer diameter of said tubular liner and being formed by weaving, knitting or braiding a material selected from the group consisting of fibers, yarns, rovings, and tapes, wherein said prosthesis is formed by at least one of meltably fusing said tubular liner to said textile sleeve and adhesively laminating said textile sleeve to said tubular liner.
