Claims
- 1. Apparatus for drying a fiber web comprising, in combination, pressing means for said web, including a heated roll and another roll or shoe, together forming a nip through which the web passes, the apparatus further comprising web wrapping means for wrapping the web exiting the nip between the rollers, about the heated roll, so as to continuously decrease pressure on the web and so as to prolong the continuously decreasing pressure on the web for a time period at least between one to two times as great as the time period during which the web is pressed in the nip between the rolls, so as to prevent delamination of the dried web.
- 2. Apparatus for drying a fiber web comprising, in combination, pressing means for said web, a gas pressure chamber adjacent said pressing means, means for introducing pressurized gas into said pressure chamber, means for controlling gas pressure in said gas pressure chamber so as to continuously decrease pressure on the web and so as to prolong the continuously decreasing pressure on the web for a time period at least between one to two times as great as the time period during which the web is pressed in a nip formed between the rolls, and means for venting gas from said gas pressure chamber, so as to prevent delamination of the dried web.
- 3. Apparatus for drying a fiber web in accordance with claim 2 wherein said pressing means includes a roller for contacting the web.
- 4. Apparatus for drying a fiber web in accordance with claim 2 wherein said pressing means is a shoe press.
- 5. Apparatus for drying a fiber web in accordance with claim 2 wherein said means for introducing pressurized gas comprises a plurality of air knives.
- 6. Apparatus for drying a fiber web in accordance with claim 2 wherein said gas pressure chamber encloses said pressing means.
