Claims
- 1. An in-bound call directed telephone station, comprising:
a handset having a call receiver and a call originator; a first memory location, coupled to the call receiver; a comparator, coupled to said first memory location and to the call receiver; wherein, upon receipt of an inbound call by the call receiver, said comparator compares an identifier of the in-bound call to an identifier list in said first memory location and terminates receipt of the in-bound call by the call receiver; and wherein, upon locating a match between the identifier list and the identifier of the in-bound call, said comparator automatically activates the call originator to perform a function associated with the in-bound call identifier.
- 2. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein the telephone station comprises a mobile telephone station.
- 3. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein said handset comprises a cellular handset.
- 4. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein the call receiver comprises a cellular telephone receiver.
- 5. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein said first memory location comprises a digital memory device.
- 6. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 6, wherein the digital memory device comprises a random access memory.
- 7. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein said first memory location comprises an analog memory device.
- 8. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein said comparator comprises a digital comparator.
- 9. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein said comparator comprises an analog comparator.
- 10. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein said comparator is selected from the group consisting of a programmable logic controller and a central processing unit.
- 11. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein the identifier list is entered by a user of the phone.
- 12. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein the identifier is a recall list of previously received calls.
- 13. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein the identifier is an incoming telephone number.
- 14. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein the identifier is a code encoded into the incoming call signal.
- 15. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 14, wherein the code is an access password.
- 16. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein the identifier is a voice mail.
- 17. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein the function is making a new call to a number of the identified in-bound call.
- 18. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein the function is changing the operating mode of the telephone.
- 19. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein the function is associating a new function with the identified in-bound number.
- 20. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 19, wherein the identifier contains control information that causes the new association to be formed.
- 21. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein the function is creating a new entry in the identifier list.
- 22. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein the function is making a new call to a third party.
- 23. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein the telephone station contacts a base station to verify the in-bound number before performing the function.
- 24. The in-bound call directed telephone station of claim 1, wherein the in-bound call is a page.
- 25. A method of directing a telephone, based on an in-bound call, comprising:
receiving a call at the telephone; activating an identification system based on said receiving, which identification system identifies an origination of the in-bound communication; associating a function with the in-bound communication based on the origination; terminating the in-bound communication after said activating; automatically performing, by the telephone, of the function associated with the in-bound communication.
- 26. The method of claim 25, further comprising originating the call that is received at the telephone at a remote user station.
- 27. The method of claim 25, wherein said automatically performing comprises originating of a return call by the telephone to the identified number.
- 28. The method of claim 25, wherein said automatically performing comprises originating of a return call by the telephone to a number stored in a memory as corresponding to the identified number.
- 29. The method of claim 25, wherein said automatically performing comprises forming a new association of a new function with the origination, said forming being based on control information included in the identification of the in-bound call.
- 30. The method of claim 25, wherein said automatically performing comprises entering a new operating mode.
- 31. The method of claim 30, wherein the new operating mode is selected from the group consisting of a normal mode, a receive only mode, a caller log mode, an inbound caller log mode, and a special function mode.
- 32. The method of claim 25, wherein said activating an identification system comprises activating a caller identification device.
- 33. The method of claim 25, wherein said activating an identification system comprises activating a voice mail receiver.
- 34. The method of claim 25, wherein the function comprises making a new call to the origination.
- 35. The method of claim 25, wherein the function comprises changing operating modes.
- 36. The method of claim 25, wherein the function comprises making a new call to a third party.
- 37. The method of claim 25, wherein said terminating comprises terminating by the telephone.
- 38. The method of claim 25, wherein said terminating comprises hanging up by the origination.
- 39. The method of claim 25, wherein the telephone is a mobile telephone station.
- 40. The method of claim 39, wherein said activating an identification system comprises contacting a base station in contact with the telephone to verify the veracity of the incoming number.
- 41. The method of claim 25, wherein said receiving a call at the telephone comprises receiving a page at the telephone.
- 42. An in-bound call directed telephone station, comprising:
a handset having a call receiver and a call originator; a first memory means, coupled to the call receiver; a means for comparing content in said first memory means and content from the call receiver; wherein, upon receipt of an inbound call by the call receiver, said means for comparing compares the content of the call receiver to the content of said first memory means and terminates receipt of the in-bound call by the call receiver; and wherein, upon locating a match between the content of the call receiver and the content of said first memory means, said means for comparing automatically activates the call originator to perform a function associated with the content of said first memory means.
