Claims
- 1. A method comprising administering a composition to eyed eggs of catfish one or more attenuated mutant strains of Edwardsiella ictaluri resistant to rifampicin and effective in eliciting an immune response in catfish which is protective against infection by virulent strains of Edwardsiella ictaluri.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said administration is by means of immersion in an aqueous system.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein said attenuated strain of Edwardsiella ictaluri is present in the immersion bath at a concentration greater than or equal to about 1.times.10.sup.5 /ml.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein two or more strains of Edwardsiella ictaluri are utilized to provide protection for catfish against infection by virulent strains of Edwardsiella ictaluri.
- 5. The method of claim 4 wherein said administration is by means of immersion in an aqueous system.
- 6. The method of claim 5 wherein each of said attenuated strains of Edwardsiella ictaluri are present in the immersion bath at a concentration greater than or equal to about 1.times.10.sup.5 /ml.
