Claims
- 1. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device comprising:
a liquid crystal layer interposed between first and second substrates; plural scanning signal lines and plural video signal lines being arranged in a matrix form on the first substrate; plural pixels formed in regions surrounded by adjacent scanning signal lines and adjacent video signal lines; each pixel in a display region having at least an active device, a pixel electrode, and a counter electrode to drive liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer by applying a voltage difference between said counter electrode and said pixel electrode; wherein said counter electrode and said pixel electrode are provided on the same substrate; wherein the driving of the liquid crystal molecules by applying the voltage difference between said pixel electrode and said counter electrode includes enabling rotation of the liquid crystal molecules in a plane which is substantially parallel to the said substrate; and wherein the rotation of the liquid crystal molecules is effected in plural directions to reduce viewing angle dependency of a color tone change.
- 2. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 1,
wherein said liquid crystal molecules have one orientation direction when not applying the voltage difference between said pixel electrode and said counter electrode; wherein said liquid crystal layer has characteristics having plural viewing directions for at least one of a first color and a second color; and wherein said liquid crystal molecules are driven in the plural directions so as to enable averaging of said first color and said second color by applying the voltage difference between said pixel electrode and said counter electrode.
- 3. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 1,
wherein said liquid crystal molecules have one orientation direction when not applying voltage difference between said pixel electrode and said counter electrode; wherein said liquid crystal layer has characteristics with plural viewing directions for at least one of a first color and a second color, which is a complimentary color to said first color; and wherein said liquid crystal molecules are driven in the plural directions so as to enable averaging of said first color and said second color by applying the voltage difference between said pixel electrode and said counter electrode.
- 4. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 1,
wherein said liquid crystal molecules have one orientation direction when not applying voltage difference between said pixel electrode and said counter electrode; wherein said liquid crystal layer has characteristics with the plural viewing directions for at least one of a bluish color and a yellowish color; and wherein said liquid crystal molecules are driven in the plural directions so as to enable cancellation of said bluish color and said yellowish color by applying the voltage difference between said pixel electrode and said counter electrode.
- 5. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device comprising:
a liquid crystal layer interposed between first and second substrates; plural scanning signal lines and plural video signal lines being arranged in a matrix form on the first substrate; plural pixels formed in regions surrounded by adjacent scanning signal lines and adjacent video signal lines; each pixel in a display region having at least an active device, a pixel electrode and a counter electrode to drive liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer by applying a voltage difference between said counter electrode and said pixel electrode; wherein said liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer have dielectric anisotropy and said liquid crystal layer has characteristic with plural viewing directions enabling a white display for at least one of a first color and a second color by said dielectric anisotropy; and wherein a region colored said first color and a region colored said second color at a predetermined viewing direction when displaying white are both arranged in at least one of each pixel and each several pixels.
- 6. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 5,
wherein said liquid crystal molecules have one orientation direction when not applying voltage difference between said pixel electrode and said counter electrode.
- 7. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device comprising:
a liquid crystal layer interposed between first and second substrates; plural scanning signal lines and plural video signal lines are formed in a matrix form on the first substrate; plural pixels formed in regions surrounded by adjacent scanning signal lines and adjacent video signal lines; each pixel in a display region having at least an active device, a pixel electrode and a counter electrode to drive liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer by applying a voltage difference between said counter electrode and said pixel electrode; wherein said liquid crystal display device has a normally black mode and has plural driving directions which enable reduction of a coloring at a tilted viewing direction from a vertical direction to the substrate when displaying white.
- 8. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 7,
including a first region where a colored white display for a first color at certain viewing direction and a second region where colored white display for a second color at the certain viewing direction; and including forming both said first region and said second region in at least one of each pixel and each several pixels to reduce coloring at a tilted viewing direction from a vertical direction to the substrate when displaying white by averaging said first color and said second color.
- 9. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 7,
including forming both a first region where a colored white display for a first color at a certain viewing direction and a second region where a colored white display for a second color, which is complimentary color to the said first color, at the certain viewing direction in at least one of each pixel and each several pixels to reduce coloring at a tilted viewing direction from a vertical direction to the substrate when displaying white.
- 10. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 7,
including forming both a first region where a colored white display for a bluish color at certain viewing direction and a second region where a colored white display for a yellowish color at the certain viewing direction in at least one of each pixel and each several pixels.
- 11. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 8,
wherein said liquid crystal molecules have one orientation direction when not applying voltage difference between said pixel electrode and said counter electrode; and wherein said pixel electrode and said counter electrode are formed on the first substrate.
- 12. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 7,
wherein said liquid crystal molecules have one orientation direction when not applying voltage difference between said pixel electrode and said counter electrode; and forming both a first region where a colored white display for a first color at a certain viewing direction and a second region where a colored white display for a second color at the certain viewing direction in at least one of each pixel and each several pixels enables reduction of coloring at a tilted viewing direction from a vertical direction to the substrate when displaying white by averaging said first color and said second color.
- 13. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 7,
wherein said liquid crystal molecules have one orientation direction when not applying voltage difference between said pixel electrode and said counter electrode; and forming both a first region where a colored white display for a first color at a certain viewing direction and a second region where a colored white display for a second color, which is complimentary color to the said first color at the certain viewing direction in at least one of each pixel and each several pixels.
- 14. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 7,
wherein said liquid crystal molecules have one orientation direction when not applying voltage difference between said pixel electrode and said counter electrode; forming both a first region where a colored white display for a bluish color at certain viewing direction and a second region where a colored white display for a yellowish color at the certain viewing direction in at least one of each pixel and each several pixels.
- 15. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 7,
wherein said liquid crystal molecules have plural orientation directions when not applying voltage difference between said pixel electrode and said counter electrode.
- 16. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device comprising:
a liquid crystal layer interposed between first and second substrates; plural scanning signal lines and plural video signal lines are formed in a matrix form on the first substrate; plural pixels formed in regions surrounded by adjacent scanning signal lines and adjacent video signal lines; each pixel in a display region have at least an active device, a pixel electrode and a counter electrode to drive liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer by applying a voltage difference between said counter electrode and said pixel electrode; wherein plural regions where driving directions of said liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer are different are provided and said plural regions are arranged in at least one of each pixel and each several pixels with the arrangement enabling reduction of viewing angle dependency of color tone change.
- 17. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 16,
wherein the reduction of viewing angle dependency of color tone change is effected by averaging a first color and a second color and by arranging in at least a first region in which said liquid crystal molecules are driven in a first direction which is colored to said first color at a certain viewing direction, and a second region in which said liquid crystal molecules are driven in a second direction which is colored to a second color at the certain viewing direction in at least one of each pixel and each several pixels.
- 18. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 16,
wherein said color is white and enabling reduction of viewing angle dependency of a white tone.
- 19. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 18,
wherein the reduction of viewing angle dependency of color tone change is effected by averaging a first color and a second color and by arranging in at least a first region in which said liquid crystal molecules are driven in a first direction which is colored to said first color at a certain viewing direction, and a second region in which said liquid crystal molecules are driven in a second direction which is colored to a second color at the certain viewing direction in at least one of each pixel and each several pixels.
- 20. An active matrix type liquid crystal display device according to claim 18,
wherein the reduction of viewing angle dependency of color tone change is effected by canceling of a first color and a second color which is complimentary color to said first color, by arranging in at least a first region in which said liquid crystal molecules are driven in a first direction which is colored to said first color at a certain viewing direction, and a second region in which said liquid crystal molecules are driven in a second direction which is colored to a second color at the certain viewing direction in at least one of each pixel and each several pixels.
