Claims
- 1. An indicator device for mounting to a closure for a container, to indicate the opening or closing of the container, comprising:
- (a) an outer cover comprising a top piece with an indicator window therein and a depending skirt extending axially downward from the top piece;
- (b) a retainer rotatably attached to the outer cover whereby the outer cover can rotate a predetermined number of degrees before causing rotation of the retainer;
- (c) an indicator device mount for mounting the indicator device to said closure;
- (d) an indicator wheel disposed between said outer cover top piece and said retainer, having indicating symbols visible through the indicator window;
- (e) a rotation mechanism engaging said indicator wheel to said outer cover for causing rotation of the indicator wheel with the outer cover upon rotation of the outer cover in a first direction; and
- (f) an antirotation mechanism engaging said retainer to said indicator wheel for preventing rotation of the indicator wheel with outer cover upon rotation of the outer cover in a second direction opposite said first direction.
- 2. The indicator device of claim 1 wherein said rotation mechanism comprises:
- (a) at least one protrusion on one of said indicator wheel and said outer cover; and
- (b) at least one indentation on the other of said indicator wheel and said outer cover.
- 3. The indicator device of claim 2 wherein the at least one protrusion is flexible to allow said at least one protrusion to flex out of said at least one indentation when said outer cover is rotated in said second direction.
- 4. The indicator device of claim 3, wherein said at least one protrusion includes a flexible pawl with one end attached to one of the indicator wheel and the outer cover and an opposite end spaced apart from said one of the indicator wheel and the outer cover, whereby the pawl can flex away from said at least one indentation; and said at least one indentation includes a set of teeth on the other of the indicator wheel and the outer cover arranged for engagement with the said pawl.
- 5. The indicator device of claim 1 wherein said antirotation mechanism comprises:
- (a) at least one protrusion on one of said retainer and said indicator wheel; and
- (b) at least one indentation on the other of said retainer and said indicator wheel.
- 6. The indicator device of claim 5 wherein the at least one protrusion is flexible to allow said at least one protrusion to flex out of said at least one indentation when said retainer is rotated in said first direction.
- 7. The indicator device of claim 6, wherein said at least one protrusion includes a flexible pawl with one end attached to one of the retainer and the indicator wheel and an opposite end spaced apart from said one of the retainer and the indicator wheel, whereby the pawl can flex away from said at least one indentation; and said at least one indentation includes a set of teeth on the other of the retainer and the indicator wheel arranged for engagement with said pawl.
- 8. The indicator device of claim 1 wherein the device produces an audible sound when said outer cover rotates.
- 9. The indicator device of claim 8, wherein the audible sound is produced by at least one of said rotation mechanism and antirotation mechanism.
- 10. The indicator device of claim 8, wherein the audible sound is produced by each of said rotation mechanism and antirotation mechanism.
