BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Field of Invention
The present invention relates to an infant bed and chair that may be used as a temporary chair and/or bed for use with an infant.
Description of Related Art
Many infants have special beds designed for their use. Infant bedding typically includes some type of side rails or walls to help contain the infant within the bed. Further the beds include a small mattress and may include bumpers along the side walls of the bed. Smaller beds or playpens are also available in the form of bassinettes or playpens that have similar construction. The bassinette provides more of a small cradle that is portable typically with a flat mattress or cushion within the bassinette. One drawback to these types of beds is that the mattress is normally flat and therefore a small child may have difficulty sitting up while being fed or even put to sleep. Keeping the child in a somewhat upright position is highly effective to prevent choking or other injuries even such as crib death. As a result, it would be advantageous to have a bed or system for placement of an infant that includes an inclining portion to support the infant on an incline as opposed to a flat mattress.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an infant bed and chair that includes: a base; a back support attached to the base; and at least one vertical support attached to an underside of the back support, wherein the at least one vertical supports enable vertical elevation of the back support. The infant bed and chair may further include slit openings along an inner surface of the back support and along an inner surface of the base. Preferably, the infant bed and chair may include a cushion. In one particular embodiment, the at least one vertical support elevates the back support to about a 30-degree angle.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
FIG. 1 depicts a side and top view of an infant bed and chair in accordance with the present invention.
FIG. 2 depicts perspective views of the infant bed and chair in an elevated position.
FIG. 3 depicts a cushion used in conjunction with the infant bed and chair in accordance with the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to an infant chair and bed that includes a 30 degree elevation along a back support portion to support the infant in an elevated position while in the bed. The bed further includes slits for placement of belt straps to allow support of the infant within the bed or chair through the use of a belt system. The present invention provides a infant bed and chair that is convertible to an elevated position to ensure an upright positioning of the infant while in the bed.
In reference to FIG. 1, an infant bed and chair 100 is depicted. The infant bed and chair 100 includes a back support portion 32 and a base 30. A top view of bed and chair 100 is further shown showing the back support 32 with back support surface 33. Further shown in base surface 31. Along with back support portion 32 a series of slits are provided. Belt strap slits 20a, 20b may be used to receive a belt to support the infant and/or a cushion within the bed/chair 100. Further belt strap slit 21 is provided in the base surface 31 of the bed 100. Further a side view is provided showing the back support portion 32 elevated with a support 40 on one side and a second support 42 on the opposite side of the back support portion 32. The supports 40, 42 support the back support portion 32 in an elevated position at approximately a 30-degree angle. The infant bed and chair 100 enables the infant to maintain an upright position when placed in the bed 100.
FIG. 2 depicts a prospective view of the bed/chair 100 showing the back support portion 32 in an elevated position. A top end 37 is shown at the top of the back support portion 32 with a foot end 35 at the base 30. Further shown in another alternative embodiment, a toy bar 15 may be extended and attached to the bed/chair 100. As a consequence, the bed/chair 100 provides a portable and unique bed arrangement for an infant. Further, the elevated back support 32 shows that the infant may maintain a safe position within the bed/chair 100.
Further detail of the present invention is a cushion 50 shown in FIG. 3. The cushion 50 may be inserted within the bed/chair 100 to provide a cushion support for the infant within the bed/chair 100. The cushion 50 includes a head support 52, arm supports 51a, 51b along with belt strap slits 53, 54 to receive a belt to support both the cushion and infant within the bed during use. Various materials may be used to make the bed and cushion in accordance with the present invention preferably the materials include organic, waterproof and hypoallergenic for optimum use with an infant. The instant invention has been shown and described in what it considers to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made there from within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
