The disclosure relates to inflatable mattresses and more particularly pertains to a new inflatable mattress for cushioning a user with a removable topper.
Some of the inflatable mattresses of the prior art include a cushioning topper positioned atop an inflatable body. The topper for some of these devices is removable from the inflatable body. However, the prior art does not disclose an inflatable mattress which includes a cushioning topper that is positionable to form a gap between the cushioning topper and the inflatable body for receiving a padding. The prior art additionally does not disclose such a device in which a connector for attaching the topper to the body also retains the padding in the gap. Such a device is desirable over the prior art, because it provides additional versatility for cushioning a user.
An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a body which is hollow and comprises a flexible material such that the body is movable between a compressed condition and an expanded condition. The body has a bottom wall, a perimeter wall, and a top wall, with the perimeter wall being coupled to and extending between the bottom wall and the top wall. A topper is removably connected to the top wall of the body. The topper is positioned on an exterior of the top wall and is compressible such that the topper is configured to cushion a user lying on the topper. A connector is coupled to the body and the topper and releasably connects the body and the topper together. The connector comprises a first mating member and a second mating member. The first mating member is coupled to the body, and the second mating member is coupled to the topper. A central portion of the topper is positionable spaced from the top wall of the body when the topper is connected to the top wall such that the topper, the top wall, and the connector bound a gap which is configured to contain a padding.
There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.
The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to
As best illustrated in
A topper 34 is removably connected to and is coextensive with the top wall 20 of the body 12. The topper 34 is positioned on an exterior 36 of the top wall 20. The topper 34 comprises a casing 38 and a filling 40. The filling 40 is enclosed by the casing 38 and comprises a compressible material such that the filling 40 is configured to cushion a user 42 lying on the topper 34. The compressible material comprises a cotton fiber but may comprise a polymer foam, a down, a wool, or the like. A connector 44 is coupled to the body 12 and the topper 34 and releasably connects the body 12 and the topper 34 together. The connector 44 comprises a first mating member 46 and a second mating member 48, wherein the first mating member 46 is coupled to the body 12 and the second mating member 48 is coupled to the topper 34. The first mating member 46 extends along a perimeter of the top wall 20, and the second mating member 48 extends along a peripheral edge of the topper 34. The connector 44 comprises a zipper 50 but may comprise a plurality of snap fasteners, a hook-and-loop fastener, or the like.
A central portion 52 of the topper 34 is positionable spaced from the top wall 20 of the body 12 when the topper 34 is connected to the top wall 20 such that the topper 34, the top wall 20, and the connector 44 bound a gap 54. The gap 54 is configured to contain a padding 56 which may provide additional cushioning to the topper 34.
A pouch 58 is coupled to the body 12 and is positioned on an associated one of the pair of lateral sections 32 of the perimeter wall 22 and adjacent to the first end section 28 of the perimeter wall 22. The pouch 58 comprises a back panel 60 and a front panel 62. A top edge 64 of the back panel 60 is coupled to an upper edge 66 of the associated lateral section 32 of the perimeter wall 22. The front panel 62 is coupled to a bottom edge 68 and a pair of lateral edges 70 of the back panel 60. The front panel 62 and the back panel 60 forming a cavity 72 therebetween, and the cavity 72 has an opening 74 which faces upwardly.
A pump 76 is mounted to the perimeter wall 22 and is in fluid communication with an interior side and an exterior side of the perimeter wall 22. The pump 76 is configured to selectively urge air into the body 12 to move the body 12 from the compressed condition to the expanded condition 16. An electrical cord 78 is electrically coupled to the pump 76 and is configured to electrically couple to an external power source. The pump 76 may also be operable to urge air out of said body 12 to move the body 12 from the expanded condition 16 to the compressed condition. A housing 80 is mounted to the perimeter wall 22 adjacent to the pump 76. The electrical cord 78 is storable in a chamber 82 positioned in the housing 80. The housing 80 includes a door 84 which is movable between an open position and a closed position with respect to the chamber 82 to selectively access the chamber 82.
A port tube 86 is mounted to the perimeter wall 22 and is in fluid communication with the interior side and the exterior side of the perimeter wall 22. The port tube 86 is configured for facilitating releasing air from the body 12 to move the body 12 from the expanded condition 16 to the compressed condition and for facilitating moving air into the body 12 from an extrinsic pump to move the body 12 from the compressed condition to the expanded condition 16. A cap 88 is releasably engaged to the port tube 86 to close an outlet of the port tube 86. The cap 88 is configured to prevent air moving through the port tube 86 when the cap 88 is engaged with the port tube 86.
In use, the body 12 is inflated to the expanded condition 16. The topper 34 may be connected to the top wall 20 if desired to provide cushioning on the top wall 20. If the topper 34 is connected to the top wall 20, the padding 56 may also be positioned between the top wall 20 and the topper 34. The padding 56 is retained in the gap 54 between the top wall 20 and the topper 34 via the connector 44, the top wall 20, and the topper 34 enclosing the gap 54. The padding 56 provides further cushioning in addition to the topper 34. A cell phone 90, speaker, or other object may be stored in the pouch 58.
With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
