Claims
- 1. A method of providing a coupon and evidence of postage on a mail piece, comprising:
determining a coupon value to be included in an information based indicia to be included on a mail piece evidence of postage; embedding the coupon value within a machine readable code; digitally signing the information based indicia including the coupon value; and printing the evidence of postage including the coupon value on each mail piece.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further including distributing the mail piece to addresses on a mailing list.
- 3. The method of claim 2, further including redeeming the coupon value embedded in the machine readable code.
- 4. The method of claim 3, further comprising scanning the machine readable code to determine the value of the coupon.
- 5. The method of claim 3, further comprising verifying the authenticity of the coupon by using software to decode and verify the digital signature.
- 6. The method of claim 3, further comprising extracting marketing information from the redeemed coupon.
- 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the machine readable code is a barcode.
- 8. The method of claim 7, wherein the barcode is a 2D barcode.
- 9. The method of claim 1, further including using a personal computer and printer to generate and print the indicia.
- 10. A machine readable indicia for providing information and evidence of postage paid on a mail piece comprising:
machine readable marks indicating postage; machine readable marks indicating a coupon value configured to permit a recipient of the mail piece to redeem the mail piece for the coupon value.
- 11. The indicia of claim 10, further comprising machine readable marks indicating destination delivery point.
- 12. The indicia of claim 10, further comprising machine readable marks indicating a date associated with at least one of mailing the mail piece and printing the indicia.
- 13. The indicia of claim 10, further comprising machine readable marks indicating a digital signature.
- 14. The indicia of claim 10, further comprising machine readable marks indicating a certificate serial number.
- 15. The indicia of claim 10, further comprising at least one of machine readable marks and human readable marks indicating an expiration date for the coupon value.
- 16. The indicia of claim 10, further comprising human readable marks indicating a coupon value amount.
- 17. The indicia of claim 10, further comprising machine readable marks indicating a coupon value amount.
